Equal Rights Beyond Borders

Thousands of Americans vacation on the Greek islands every year—enjoying the sunny beaches, crystal clear waters, and Greek hospitality. However, many of those islands are also home to massive prisons used to detain refugees fleeing war and persecution. Their crime? Risking their lives to seek protection in Europe. At Equal Rights Beyond Borders we are working to fight this injustice by providing legal representation to refugees seeking safety in Europe. We offer free legal aid to migrants in Athens, Chios, Kos and Berlin. We work to challenge unlawful asylum practices at a structural level through advocacy and litigation that is rooted in the direct experience of affected communities whose rights are violated in Europe. The direct support we provide to migrants in Greece and Germany is holistic and we accompany clients through the entire process, as well as ensure they receive wrap-around services. We work in far-flung areas, like Kos and Leros, that operate under the radar of civil society and government, and thus are places where some of the most egregious violations occur.
