Adelante Foundation exists to empower enterprising women with the least opportunity to achieve economic self-sufficiency. Honduras is the second poorest country in Latin America. With over 70% of Hondurans living below the poverty line, women are among the most vulnerable. They are challenged daily by food insecurity and health problems, primarily due to low household income. Adelante has over a twenty year history of successfully providing small loans and financial literacy training to entrepreneurial women. With an average reach of 5,000 women a year and a repayment rate of 98%, loans are recycled, enabling more women and their families to benefit into perpetuity.
Financial inclusion and access to microfinance not only lifts women up and breaks intergenerational cycles of poverty, it also builds resilience to climate impacts and external shocks, decreases migration and displacement, and enables women to thrive.
