Edible Prairie Project is a nonprofit organization focused on food, agriculture, and nutrition. It is based in Gillette, WY. It received its nonprofit status in 2019.

The Edible Prairie Project works to get local food grown and produced in Campbell County into the hands of local children and families that need it most. We operate six mission-driven programs designed to make local food more available, affordable, and accessible. Our Summer Weekend Meals for Kids program provides kid-friendly and nutritious weekend food packages to children from food insecure households each weekend during summer break. We maintain the Gillette Little Free Pantries – a network of upcycled newspaper dispensers placed in our city parks containing food and personal care items that any member of our community can access at any time. Our multi-farm veggie baskets bring locally grown produce to everyone through our innovative “pay-what-you-can” pricing structure - everyone gets the same quality and quantity of produce regardless of the price paid. We also provide free garden kits to families in need that would like to grow their own edible garden at home, collect gleaned produce from local farmers fields that we donate to local food banks including the Council of Community Services and Free Mercantile at Rawhide Elementary, and work with local social service agencies to plant edible gardens for their clients to enjoy.

FWI reduces the suffering of farmed fish by researching and executing evidence-based interventions in high-priority contexts.

The mission of Fish Welfare Initiative (FWI) is to reduce the suffering of farmed fish as much as possible. We do that specifically by researching and testing evidence-based welfare interventions, and then implementing them in high priority contexts. Our main implementation program right now focuses on collaborative farmer outreach in India to improve water quality and reduce stocking densities. As of this writing, this program currently works with about 100 farms (www.fwi.fish/farmers). FWI also invests significantly in research to identify and test more promising welfare improvements (www.fwi.fish/post/rnd-plans-2024).

The Context
In the next two decades, it is predicted that 400 million acres of U.S. farmland will change hands. What happens to that land when it reaches the market is crucial to the future of our food system, and current trends point in the wrong direction. The price of land in the U.S. has skyrocketed in the past decade, driven by an unregulated, speculative marketplace, international investment, a distorted subsidy system, and by unrestrained development pressure.

In this crucial moment of land transition, a new generation of farmers has emerged. The demand for organic food is strong and growing, and with a changing climate, the urgency for restoration, ecological stewardship, and conservation is becoming more evident. Yet the majority of young farmers and beginning farmers of all ages struggle with land access, affordability, and tenure. The price of farmland is not justified by the profitability of the farming business, stacking the odds against today’s incoming agrarians.

The Vision
We need to chart the way forward. We need to hold our precious farmland in a trust for its best uses: sustainable food production and collective, ecological stewardship. We must also help the incoming organic leadership build on the legacy of our organic elders, many who have been farming for more than 30 years, and keep organic land in production. We need to support the stakeholders engaged in complex land succession, with all the accounting, estate planning, retirement planning and legal and technical assistance that is necessary. We need a national conversation that leads to action and traction for sustainable farming at the foundation of a new, just and equitable economy. Finally, we need policy reform to strengthen democratic ownership and control of our nation’s farmland.

Agrarian Trust’s Goals:

Build the issue (of land access) and reframe the solution through public symposia, collaborative advocacy campaigns, and stakeholder meetings.
Support the network of stakeholders and service providers through collection and documentation of innovative models for land access. Create a comprehensive resource portal to pool the useful tools already developed.
Build the Agrarian Land Trust local agrarian commons to hold farmland to ensure its sustainable and productive stewardship for generations to come.

The International Friends of Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte  is a charitable fund set up in February 2012. The Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte is one of France's most treasured institutions, celebrated for its art historical, architectural, and botanical importance and the devoted stewardship of its owners.


The magnificent Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte was constructed from 1658 to 1661 for  Nicolas Fouquet, the superintendent of finances for Louis XIV.

It was the first large-scale collaboration between the three major 17th-century figures in architecture, interior decoration, and landscape design: Charles Le Brun, Charles Le Brun, André Le Nôtre.

Owned by the de Vogüé family since 1875, each successive generation has devoted themselves to its stewardship.

The Mission Statement of this fund is to bring together a devoted community of supporters, who together with the de Vogüé family, safeguard the Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte through the preservation of its architecture, art, and gardens and promote the chateau's legacy and profound contributions to the arts. This statement of purpose has guided the château for over 47 years, since Count Patrice de Vogüé, current owner, transformed the family home into a museum open to the public in 1968. 

Our capital campaign - Retour aux Sources - aims to revive the Waterworks in the Le Nôtre's garden. 

An underground reservoir around 270 meters long collects rainwater by means of two underground gritstone water channels. The water then feeds the fountains through the force of gravity alone. This system only allows the fountains to operate for a limited time and it is sometimes necessary to wait over a week for the reservoir to refill. This  constraint is common to all seventeenth-century châteaux, including royal residences.

The Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte stands at the heart of 500 hectares of verdant countryside, which is protected as part of the Val d’Ancoeur heritage site. In keeping with the authenticity of the area, the objective is to operate the 22 fountains of the garden on a daily basis, without interfering with the layout or the hydraulic system designed by André Le Nôtre, modernizing only the way in which the reservoir beneath the statu of Hercules at the far end of the garden is filled. By drawing water from the river and nearby sources, the water supply to the fountains will remain natural. The gravity-based circuit will work in the same way as it did in the seventeenth century, with particular attention being paid to the economical and respectful management of our primary resource: water.

The next step is to restore the splendor of La Gerbe d'Eau.

La Gerbe d’eau is one of the oldest basins. It has endured the trials of time and followed the different technical and aesthetic changes in the garden. This large circular basin represents the most majestic fountain in Le Nôtre’s design, with its 140 jets.

Currently, la Gerbe d’eau operates only partially. The floors and sides are eroded and sagging, thus affecting the waterproofing of the entire hydraulic system. Continuing the work initiated in the late 19th century by Alfred Sommier, the efforts will focus on addressing the numerous leaks affecting the basin, and restoring its water features.

The total budget of this restoration is €300,000 including € 169,000 for the fountain system.

We preserve, develop, and promote the assets comprising the Domaine national de Chambord which is on Unesco's world heritage list.

Chambord has aroused admiration and fascination to the world for over 500 years. Placed on France’s first list of historical monuments in 1840, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981, it is one of the most breathtaking construction of the Renaissance. Far from being a residential palace or a hunting lodge, Chambord embodies the values of humanism, inventiveness and human genius.

Preserving this heritage means constantly questioning how it can be made accessible to the widest possible audience. With this objective in mind, each year new developments and innovative projects are presented to visitors, a rich program of events punctuates the life of the estate, and ecological actions are implemented. The estate is also developing a strategy to diversify its own resources, notably by reviving its vocation as a food-producing farm.

Chambord’s projects are structured around four development priorities: Chambord cultural and artistic, Chambord educational and social, Chambord sustainable and agricultural, and Chambord innovative. One Tree Planted engages and impacts populations all over the world. In just nine years, we have gotten over **100 million trees** in the ground through new and established relationships with over 463 planting partners. In 2022 alone, we planted over 52 million trees within 327 planting projects in 74 countries across six regions and have potentially sequestered more than 10 million tons of carbon over the next 20 years. Through these projects, we helped to:

- create 2,438 jobs, 
- support 50,582 farming families, 
- engage over 32,000 volunteers, and 
- restore 97,769 hectares of land. 

One Tree Planted has impacted populations at all levels. On a macro level, One Tree Planted has helped to reduce the adverse effects of carbon emissions, air pollution, and global warming. It has inspired and engaged individuals, schools, foundations, and businesses to take action to combat climate change. It has restored landscapes for economic, social, and environmental well-being. On a micro level, it has supported community development by building and beautifying urban green spaces and improving air and water quality. It has helped underdeveloped communities become resilient and self-sufficient, develop sustainable economies, and provide income, food, and heating to support families. Its action and positive storytelling have inspired many and boosted the sense of community all around the world.

Faith in Action is a community based organization, founded in 2003 by a team of 5 people in order to support women and children in extreme poverty caused by the crisis and cultural barriers in Burundi. In fact Burundi population is predominantly female (54.2%) and 74.1% of the population lives below the poverty line.  Faith in Action coaches and supports disadvantaged and at risk women in Burundi through our holistic faith, family and community centred approach so that they become active, contributing members of their communities. ▪ Utilize Self Help Groups (SHG) made up of 15-20 people (90%are women) ▪ We support the members of SHG in four main areas: ○ Entrepreneurship: business plan development, individual coaching, creation of points of sell, harvest storage and connect them to market for the flow of their product. ○ Solidarity Funding: avail guarantee fund for Finance Institution connection and offer finance management training ○ Family support: birth and mariage registration facilitation, child development and protection, professional skills training and support ○ Life Skills: SRH, leadership skills and group therapy

Adeso's work in Somalia dares to reimagine and exemplify a model that shifts power and resources to the community level where the people lead and co-create their own futures. 

Adeso advocates on behalf of the communities with which we work by giving them a voice on the local, national, regional, and international stages, as well as ensuring their interests and concerns are heard at the highest level. Adeso has proven itself to be one of the foremost leaders in the ongoing global effort to decolonize the humanitarian aid and development system. We currently lead coalitions to re-imagine aid to shift power, resources, and decision making toward communities in the Global South where they will ultimately be the most effective, enduring, and transformative. 

Thirty years ago, Adeso was founded as Horn of Africa Relief and Development working in one small area in Somalia. Fatima Jibrell, Adeso’s founder, mobilized local and international resources to protect Somalia’s fragile pastoral environment. The impact of the civil war led to the breakdown of natural resource management systems, jeopardizing a traditional way of life. It was Fatima Jibrell who saw the connection between peace, women’s empowerment, resource protection, and skills development – an understanding that continues to drive the work of Adeso today.  

Over the last three decades, Adeso has helped unleash the power of individuals and communities in Africa so they can live productive and self-sufficient lives. Informed by community focused work, Adeso aims to transform the global humanitarian and development infrastructure by addressing inequalities and resource deficits impacting civil society from the Global South. While mainly focusing on conservation, GA also helps to improve the health and well-being of Australia’s first peoples through training, employment, and return to country while relearning and sharing traditional and contemporary science for managing Australia’s natural areas. Fundación Origen is a nonprofit organization founded in 1991 in CHILE dedicated to holistic social transformation through education and agroecology.

Its main projects include the Pirque Agroecological School, the Natural Sanctuary Los Maitenes, the Origen Farmers Market, The Bodhisattva training and the Virginia Subercaseaux School. In times of need or disaster, Origen activates its relief programs for food and housing. All of these initiatives are interrelated and share the objective of providing concrete tools for generating individual, social and environmental transformation. 

Origen credits its growth as an organization to its open and compassionate response to a changing world, its commitment and deep care for all living beings and its willingness to engage in horizontal dialogue with several stakeholders across multiple projects. Each year, Origen directly impacts 600 children and thousands of families through all its programs and, thereby contributing to a more peaceful and equitable world.

**Utthan's journey began in 1981**, when four women chose to work in the desolate Bhal region of Gujarat, helping marginalized communities to self-organise around critical livelihood issues. **It is a grassroots-based institution with a mission to empower women and young girls by providing them with the perspective, resources and tools they need to amplify their voice, gain access & control over productive resources, entitlements & services, and take control of their bodily autonomy.** To create systemic change and drive sustainable impact, Utthan also facilitates partnerships and synergies with various stakeholders and engages in evidence-based advocacy and policy dialogue while continuously taking up its own organisational development.  

**The Challenge being addressed**: Women and young girls face significantly disproportionate challenges due to social, economic, political & environmental marginalization. This creates overlapping & interdependent systems of oppression, discrimination & disadvantage. The **adverse impacts of poverty, hunger, resourceless-ness, violence & climate change on women and girls are most acute**. As a result, their voices are more than often ignored & silenced and their needs neglected. This adversely impacts their ability to take decisions at individual, household, community or societal level. This inequity is perpetuated in society & associated structures, as a whole. Any development or growth therefore remains inequitable, incomplete & unsustainable. 

**Path to address the impacts on women and young girls**: Utthan works on **building their agency** at individual, household, community & societal level through **enabling control over assets, body & voice**. This in turn enables them to shape their own destinies and provides them the confidence to partake in the **creation of a more just & equitable society**.

Prioritising community-based & community-led transformation has been pivotal in building a critical mass of local leaders; amongst women, men & youth. Utthan's practice areas are very much aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals & are demonstrative of grounded & women-led action to address women's human rights which are deeply intertwined with security, climate change, biodiversity, water security, resource distribution & governance issues. Presently, Utthan **directly** impacts the lives of over 8.5 lakh individuals in six districts of the western state of Gujarat in India. It aspires to scale this positive influence to at least 25 lakh individuals by 2027.

The project supports food history research, collections and programming at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. 

Since 1996, the National Museum of American History (Museum) has stimulated senses and minds through the Smithsonian Food History Project (Food History Project) using food as both a solid platform and a powerful lens to explore American history. As one of the Museum’s major research, collection, and program initiatives, food history connects our global audiences with the past, present, and each other. 

Nearly 4 million annual visitors are invited to learn about the historical influences of food, culinary leaders, and cooking traditions through three pillars of the Food History Project:

FOOD:  Transforming the American Table – The permanent and popular food exhibit explores America’s past, present, and future of food and drink and includes the installation of Julia Child's home kitchen from her former home in Cambridge, which was featured in many of her later television programs.

3 - Programming:
o	Food History Weekend – Named Best Festival for Food Lovers, the Food History Weekend welcomes the public to lectures, cooking demonstrations, tastings, exhibits, and tours to celebrate the way Americans eat, drink, and cook. The cornerstone of the vibrant weekend is the Food History Gala, featuring the presentation of the prestigious Julia Child Award.

o	The Julia Child Award recognizes the profound gifts of individuals or teams as food educators, communicators, innovators, mentors, and bridge-builders, and applauds their integrity, independence, and public-spirit. The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and Culinary Arts (The Julia Child Foundation) co-hosts the Food History Gala and underwrites the award, including $50,000 grants to food-related non-profits of the awardees’ choosing. 

o	Cooking Up History – Since 2015, Cooking Up History has brought people together with live cooking demonstrations. In a state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen in the Museum’s Innovation Wing, guest chefs share fresh insights into many cultures, traditions, recipes, ingredients, and culinary techniques that shape what is served on tables across the nation.

o	Last Call – Last Call moderated discussions plus beer tastings attract visitors from various backgrounds, expanding audiences for the Museum and brewers. 

o	Winemakers Dinner – Co-hosted with the Napa Valley Vintners, this intimate fundraising event for the Food History Project gathers illustrious winemakers who share spectacular food, delectable wines, and infinite wisdom about industry traditions, struggles, and achievements. 

o	Videos, Podcasts, and Blogs – Reaching audiences beyond the Museum walls is made possible through videos, podcasts, and blogs which are posted on our website that averages 9.2 million visitors per year.

More than 1 in 3 Egyptians live below the poverty line and are experiencing food insecurity. ERA has committed to regular food distribution programs across the Republic. We have partnered with the Egyptian Food Bank to distribute general food vouchers and meat vouchers to needy families.

We are raising funds towards the cost of operating incubators in the neonatal intensive care unit at Cairo's Mersal Foundation Children's Hospital, in support of their efforts to minimize the shortage of critical care equipment. 

Egypt Relief and Aid is also partnering with Mersal Foundation in support of their efforts to add 40 incubators and 6 beds in a new three floor neonatal critical care center. Founded in 2015, Mersal Foundation is a Cairo based NGO that offers quality health care to needy individuals and families, regardless of background, religion, or residency status.

Soul Fire Farm is an Afro-Indigenous centered community farm committed to uprooting racism and seeding sovereignty in the food system. We raise and distribute life-giving food as a means to end food apartheid. With deep reverence for the land and wisdom of our ancestors, we work to reclaim our collective right to belong to the earth and to have agency in the food system. We bring diverse communities together on this healing land to share skills on sustainable agriculture, natural building, spiritual activism, health, and environmental justice. Foundation for Intentional Community

We protect and steward threatened farmland, and keep land in production by making it accessible to a new generation of farmers.

Local farms are essential to our daily lives. Investing in Washington farmland means healthy food for our children, thriving rural economies, and fertile, productive soil. Simply put: farms make our communities better.

But the future of farming is threatened. Over the last four decades, some of Washington’s best soils have been irreversibly lost to development. In the next ten years, 70% of local growers will retire without a successor in place, and new farmers face countless barriers to accessing land, from affordability to systemic racism and discrimination. As land prices skyrocket and climate change threatens our landscape, we are working to protect farmland, support farmers, and chart a new path for the future of farming in Washington State. 

We see farmland conservation at the nexus of many important issues, from rural economic development to local food production and climate change. By working in partnership to protect farmland and prioritizing the needs of local farmers and the community, we are creating a more sustainable and resilient future for our state.

We are a statewide organization, prioritizing farming communities based on a set of conservation criteria. We conduct technical mapping to understand where soil quality is highest, and use factors like development pressure and climate impacts to help us identify the most urgent threats to farmland. We typically protect farms in close proximity to one another in order to strengthen the fabric of the rural communities where we work. Threatened farmland sometimes needs direct intervention to ensure it stays available for future generations of farmers. We use tools in different combinations, depending on the context and needs of each specific project. Each tool ensures the permanent protection of farmland.

Through our Farm to Farmer program, we help farmers find the land opportunities they need to grow their businesses, and help landowners sell or lease their land to keep it in farming. We offer personalized technical assistance to current and aspiring farmers, farming and non-farming landowners, veterans, real estate agents, and organizations looking to expand their incubator or agricultural park programs, which are areas set aside specifically to encourage continued farming operations.

By protecting farmland forever, we are creating access and affordability for a new generation of farmers. By removing development potential from farmland, the purchase price becomes much more affordable — often by as much as 50%. With access to land being the number-one hurdle that new and beginning farmers face, we aim to address this barrier by protecting land and making connections to land opportunities through our Farm to Farmer program.

Washington Farmland Trust

AIR's focus is the interrelated problems of deforestation, mudslides, malnutrition, and habitat loss in rural Central America. 

The Alliance for International Reforestation's (AIR's) mission is to implement educational programs, reforestation, and regenerative farming methods in Central America in order to protect water sources, build soil health, prevent mudslides and erosion, prevent lung disease and provide more nutritious crops—while protecting the Earth. We choose Hope.

AIR utilizes a comprehensive community-led program with interrelated environmental and rural poverty components to help indigenous Maya communities and the environment. They include:  

· Reduce the impacts of climate change through reforestation using native species of trees

· Establish forested landscape linkages to improve biodiversity and movement of wildlife

· Improve food production and nutrition using organic regenerative farming techniques

· Reduce mudslides and soil erosion, and improve downstream water quality through reforestation and agricultural techniques

· Reduce firewood usage and lung disease by constructing fuel-efficient vented cook stoves

· Educate children by providing curriculum, gardens and tree nurseries for rural schools

· Establish tree nurseries that can be converted to micro-businesses

AIR developed and utilizes a community-based reforestation and regenerative farming approach to implement its projects. This approach involves farmers and community members providing the leadership, labor, and land for the AIR program; and working and learning under the direction of an AIR technician for 2-5 years. All of our technicians are indigenous Maya who speak the local dialects and know the communities they serve, facilitating close long-term relationships. Our AIR technicians initiate the projects, provide the supplies/materials, and are expert teachers and a resource, but local community members own and manage the projects.

In 2023 AIR worked in 70 communities in Guatemala and Nicaragua and our tree nurseries produced over 775,000 seedlings.  

Alliance For International Reforestation Inc

ASU IAHT devotes our resources to the responsible commercialization of scientific advances that can have real-world impact.

Our goal is to work with partners to empower curiosity driven discovery and science education for the greater good. The Institute provides the opportunity to bring together expertise in biological and computational science and enable progress in understanding how we address disease, create new therapies, and develop new techniques to address pressing agricultural and environmental challenges. Through our multidisciplinary approach we will leverage our resources, on behalf of stakeholders, and responsibly commercialize scientific advances for the benefit of the public.

SEED's mission is to advance STEM and Entrepreneurial Education and Development.  By providing hands-on training, mentorship, and professional development, SEED empowers the next generation of diverse STEM and entrepreneurial talent to support the growing needs of the biotech and startup community.

Aquillius SEED's Impact is to provide accessible and inclusive opportunity to diversify biotech workforce and entrepreneurial talent by providing various programs.  The SPARK Apprenticeship helps prepare students for the biotech workforce.  The CATALYST Internship educates students to become entrepreneurs by guiding them to develop solutions to real-world problems.

Aquillius SEED

We build innovative farming technology to improve food security and empower women to develop sustainable agricultural solutions.

Women Smiles Uganda is a Ugandan based non-profit organization which started as a small project in 2018 in Katanga slum and this was out of the Lilian Nakigozi' passion and personal experience. At a young age of 8, Lilian and her family lived in Katanga slum, which is home to approximately 20,000 people. Life in the slums is usually not easy with the majority of occupants living in houses made of mud, wood, and those lucky in brick-made houses. This is worsened by environmental pollution in their surroundings that often leads to contamination of surface and groundwater, ecosystem degradation, soil pollution as well as emission of greenhouse gasses. Having been raised solely by her mother in a family of nine siblings, Nakigozi would see her mother work extra hard to feed them. Getting food on the table was a challenge and this contributed to the death of her younger sister. These experiences influenced her to have an ambition of changing the lives of urban slum dwellers when an adult.Today, Women Smiles Uganda supports women, teenage mothers and youth living in underserved communities in Uganda. Through building adaptive climate-resilient vertical farms in our communities, we aim to improve food security, nutritional status and livelihoods especially for those living in urban and peri-urban poor settlements who are landless and have limited spaces. We are also seeking to eradicate poverty in underserved communities by offering entrepreneurship opportunities to women and youth through partnering with NGOs, women empowerment groups in slums and refugee camps. Our organization model builds supportive networks that allow women to share skills. develop self-sustaining food for their families and overcome poverty through reliable urban agriculture to create resilient and sustainable communities. With increasing urban population and as a strategy to reduce gender gap in the sector, there is a need to educate women on more alternative means of farming such as hydroponics which involves growing plants without soil but in gravel or liquid with added nutrients. Women Smiles Uganda not only build vertical farms in communities but also link the beneficiaries of our sustainable agriculture training programs to markets and  provide free quality seedlings to them. Women also benefit from additional training depending on their needs such as making compost manure, record keeping skills, drip irrigation amongst other good farming practices. Today, Women Smiles Uganda has expanded its market base to urban slums such as Katanga, Katwe, Makindye, Old Kampala and Bwaise which are home to almost 35% of Kampala’s population reaching 15,000 people. In the past years, we have created community gardens where women walk in to learn and practice sustainable agriculture techniques using hydroponics and aquaponics. This also involved partnering with local community groups. The community gardens now serve as hubs for educational activities, workshops and events related to sustainable agriculture. We focus on empowering women with skills because we believe women's involvement in sustainable agriculture practices has greatly contributed to a positive impact on gender equality and social development. We empower them to become leaders of change in their  communities and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Another key initiative that we embarked in recent years, was to empower mothers with maternal and child nutrition education, which is essential for ensuring the health and development of both mothers and their children. Through our nutrition education programs for young teenage mothers, we reached 2000 mothers with this education and this helped to increase awareness and understanding of key nutrition concepts such as the importance of breastfeeding, the need for a balanced diet, and the value of locally produced fresh food. Mothers who participated in the program report feeling more confident in their ability to provide health nutritious meals for their families and have seen improvements in their children' health and development. 
Currently, we are organizing community training programs in sustainable agriculture practices as an excellent way to promote sustainable and environmentally-friendly food production and increasing access to equal opportunities for women to improve their livelihoods in urban poor settlements. We educate community members on the best practices for growing food in impossible places, including using environmentally-friendly techniques, reducing waste and promote biodiversity. We are also training women farmers essential skills to achieve financial independence through agriculture and we launched a campaign through a documentary elevating voices of women farmers in Africa with a major aim of increasing their opportunities to access resources and support. We are also working on a web based digital training program to enable us scale our impact to other African countries.

Going forward, we will introduce the BackYard School model for schools in Uganda to promote sustainable food systems and we hope to scale to other Africa countries starting with East Africa, Kenya & Rwanda. We are currently in the process of seeking for partners leveraging on NGOs, corporate organizations and Rotary to support us on our journey towards ending hunger, poverty and creating resilient and sustainable communities across the African continent.

Women Smiles  Uganda

Nyanam is a restorative justice organization preparing widows to lead positive community transformation.

We are a restorative justice organization, preparing widows to be leaders of positive social transformation in their communities through integrated programs in leadership, health, livelihoods and justice. Our work alleviates widowhood poverty, mitigates the impact of HIV/AIDS, and gives widows the tools to tackle oppressive cultural, economic, and social practices that undermine widows’ dignity and limit their agency.

Past and current activities 
Our unit of operation is the leadership circles, which are self-led widow-to-widow support groups that meet on a weekly basis. We also have youth mentorship groups that organize and meet weekly during school holidays. In the leadership circles, widows offer each other spiritual, emotional, and economic support, replacing isolation and loneliness with communities of friendship. These circles consolidate their collective voice to guide the design and implementation of Nyanam’s work. As an organization, we have five main program areas that guide how we engage with Nyanam widows and their children. We use capacity strengthening as the core approach in implementing our programs. Our holistic interventions in leadership, livelihoods, health, justice, and youth education are delivered through our unique curriculum called Voice of Change, a Nyanam’s unique and widow centric training curriculum tailored to respond to the needs and concerns of widows, and uses storytelling, deep listening, and social action as approaches for community transformation. 

Leadership: Widowhood thrusts women into household leadership in patriarchal culture where male headship is valued and expected. We affirm the leadership of widows and harness their potential for community transformation. From the leadership circles, we have trained 640 widows in our various capacities who have in turned trained 780 widows in the same knowledge and skills in their groups. Further, leadership circles conduct Bible studies for spiritual development, personal sharing for emotional support, and table banking for economic development. 

Livelihoods: Our livelihood program has two main components; economic empowerment and sustainable agriculture. We train Nyanam widows in sustainable agriculture, financial literacy, table banking and micro- business skills. We offer them seed funding for their group table banking and businesses, we provide them with vegetable seeds for planting, and new gardening resources (multistorey gardens). 

Health: Nyanam widows' health and well-being is our primary focus. In this program we train our widows in trauma healing, preventative health and counselling. Through our professional and trained counselors, we provide widows with individual and group counseling sessions which support and addresses each widows’ nuanced situation and unique set of challenges, as well as mental health workshops with specific themes at the request of the widows. Further, we have a team of trained community health volunteers that provide monthly health talk sessions in the different leadership circles as well as home visits and health referrals where needed. 

Justice: Access to, ownership and control of land is both a human right and an economic justice for widows. In this program, we raise awareness on widowhood issues and take action to address injustices related to land, housing and widows’ rights. We ensure this through community leaders education and training, conducting conflict resolution sessions among Nyanam widows and their relatives, provide direct legal support to widows who are pursuing their land and property inheritance and succession, provide housing support  by building Nyanam widows dignified houses in partnership with other stakeholders and undertake policy advocacy with different government agencies and policy makers on widows human rights. 

Youth Education: Widows’ children are particularly a population in need of support, as poverty limits the future of both the widows and their families. Guided by our 3-year youth education strategy, we provide capacity training to Nyanam widows children in comprehensive health education, technology and robotics and environmental justice. The training is multiplied in the youth mentorship groups by a group of trained Nyanam youth mentors supported by trained widow matrons. In addition, we provide need based secondary school education sponsorship to widows children to improves student access to secondary education, but also builds students’ communication skills and goal setting through the application and mentorship process. 

In the future we are planning to serve up to 10,000 widows in our region and establish a widow-led cooperative business for financial security and additional income for Nyanam widows improving their financial status and muscles. Further, we seek to expand the work to other communities through training of different partners and stakeholders in our intervention the Voice of Change as a key driver for positive community transformation in the communities of widows.

Spiritual Development: We are leveraging the network of ten churches we have started over the last twenty years.  Through this network we are providing training and resources for pastors and churches all across Haiti, to encourage and strengthen their community impact.

Economic Development: We come alongside farmers, families, entrepreneurs, and small business owners to build the economy and infrastructure necessary to see Haiti become a fully self-sustainable country and a global economic participant.  Through this network we invest in projects and training that create jobs, provide sustainable income, and promote dignity.  We are currently invested in multiple agriculture development projects, focused on increasing both the quantity and quality of food produced. We also launched a Women’s Entrepreneurship Program called Espwa Vivan that is providing training and entrepreneurial coaching for vulnerable women in Haiti.

Educational Development: We support an existing network of four schools serving nearly 2000 children in four underserved communities of Haiti.  Through this network we are providing access to quality education, training and empowering teachers, and investing in vocational learning opportunities.  Our schools are growing and we are currently expanding and building to meet the ever growing need to for quality education in Haiti.

Physical Development: We collaborate with several US-based partners to meet some of the most basic and immediate needs of the Haitian people.  Through this network of partners, we care for the orphan, empower families, invest in clean water, nutrition, and medical care.  Currently, we operate two children’s homes, a human trafficking rescue home for children, mobile medical clinics, and a school feeding program. In 2022, we also launched a water well drilling program, providing clean water access to communities in Haiti.

With over 13 years of experience serving our communities, we know some struggle to obtain life’s necessities. Armenia emergency appeal to help people fleeing Nagorno-Karabakh.

Tens of thousands of people have fled to Armenia following the resumption of fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh on Tuesday, 19 September, and the subsequent surrender of the local authorities. From the very outset of these developments, our dedicated team has been on the ground, delivering crucial humanitarian assistance. The protracted conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh has inflicted unrelenting suffering on the local population since its eruption in 1988.

"The situation is critical, with over 105 000 people in need of assistance.  There are older people and families with small children. Many have taken only the basic things with them and lack adequate clothes, food, or hygiene items. We are relying on funds from our donors to respond to the civilian population's current needs," says Varduhi Dadunts, People in Need's Country Director in Armenia. 

"We will provide people with water, food, shopping vouchers, mattresses and blankets or clothes. We will help equip accommodation centers, support children and older people, and provide other basic humanitarian assistance. We are asking the public to contribute to our Armenia emergency appeal," says Šimon Pánek, CEO of People in Need. 

"In Armenia, we have been helping people affected by the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict for a long time. We have been supporting people affected by the conflict and subsequent developments, including the situation around the Lachin Corridor and current events," says Petr Drbohlav, People in Need's Regional Director for the Eastern Partnership and the Balkans.

People in Need is the largest non-governmental organization in Central and Eastern Europe, delivering development and humanitarian assistance to 25 countries across Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, MENA, and Asia. In 2022 alone, People in Need supported over 4,5 million people.   

People in Need has been working in Armenia since 2003 and is therefore well placed to provide timely and the most relevant assistance.  

*Armenia emergency appeal to help people fleeing Nagorno-Karabakh

The recent escalation of conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, preceded by the 9+ month blockade of the Lachin corridor has triggered the mass evacuation of Nagorno-Karabakh population, with at least 100,520 persons (over 80% of the region’s population) fleeing to Armenia between September 24 – 29. 2023. Already highly vulnerable after a prolonged blockade that has severe impact on their ability to access basic services (including basic food or medicine), the exiled people of Nagorno-Karabakh were   able to take with them little to no belonging.

The current situation is drastically different from before. Unlike previous displacements, this time they have no hope of ever returning to Nagorno-Karabakh. It means their needs include urgent, life-saving assistance such as emergency shelter, food, psychosocial support, health or protection, as well as mid to long-term integration support such as developing sources of income, education, etc.

• As of October 4, 2023, at least 100,520 persons have fled from the region towards Armenia, largely entering the country through the Lachin corridor and ending mainly in Goris/Syunik. 
• The coordination of the response is led by the Armenian government and supported by the UNHCR. Humanitarian actors are expected to coordinate their aid activities with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, and are then being referred to municipalities for further coordination.
• The current response relies on limited humanitarian resources and it can be expected that needs will rapidly become unmet as these are exhausted.
• PIN was among the first to respond with immediate food and emergency assistance in Goris. We were also amongst the first to support the official registration center run by authorities. 

In the coming months, PIN is planning to scale up its work and provide immediate assistance with:  
(a) Shelter and non-food items; 
(b) Food security and livelihoods;
(c) Education and child protection;
(d) Mainstreaming protection.

The Path is a non-profit organization housed on a 40-acre property in Estancia, New Mexico, where Grandmother Flordemayo’s Seed Temple and Sacred Temples for Humanity are built and cared for with your help. Thank you for your contribution and blessings of the day to you.

The Seed Temple is the realization of Grandmother Flordemayo’s original vision of a place where the sacred heritage seeds would be protected for future generations. It has existed since 2012 and has served as a source of seed for the local area, such as the Estancia Seed Library, as well as for many individuals in New Mexico and elsewhere. The many gatherings on the site have involved educational classes, sharing of seeds, and celebration of the spirituality carried in the seeds. Kindly note, we do not sell or otherwise monetize the seeds themselves.

Now more than ever it is important that we protect and increase our heritage seeds for the future and for our communities. Much of the diversity of seeds is being lost as fewer people are planting the original seeds, as modern agriculture has turned to genetically modified and patented seed to produce our crops.

The seeds in our collection have come from numerous donations of samples of traditional varieties of corn, beans, squash, grains, vegetables, and herbs. The Seed Temple is designed as a controlled environment that protects the viability of the seeds stored. From the Seed Temple, many kinds of seeds from our collection have been sent to volunteers who have helped grow and increase them, to keep them strong and to provide a stock source to distribute to others. Working to preserve these seeds gives us a sense of purpose and unity and fosters the relationships in community which are our true wealth.
