PROED

Proeducación (Proed) is a not-for-profit organization that aims to build capacity in Mexico’s primary public schools

PROED works to make schools into educational communities that are integrated, focused on learning, and have management capacity. In these communities, students achieve the expected learning outcomes and develop skills that prepare them for a dignified, active, and responsible life in society. Additionally, directors, teachers, parents, and families work together for better education.

Help achieve gender equality in public elementary schools

This project aims to strengthen inclusion and gender equality in Public Elementary schools in Mexico to improve children self- esteem, promote human rights, empower girls and promote respect between boys and girls. We promote inclusion and gender equity through the implementation of different human development programs where children will obtain socio emotional abilities to generate safe, inclusive family and school environments, where gender equity and healthy coexistence is essential. Despite the progress made, gender equality in Mexico is still a big challenge to overcome. Accountability of gender equality achievement is still deficient; a cause of concern is the escalation of generalized violence against women in Mexico. PROED has incorporated gender perspective in this program with the key priority of eradicating violence against women and girls, economically empowering girls in the future, and allowing them to become future active decision makers in their communities. Students and teachers will have the abilities, resources and tools needed for the achievement of the expected learning standards that will allow them to pursue their studies. Parents and students will also obtain socio - emotional abilities to generate safe, inclusive family and school environments, where gender equality and healthy coexistence is essential. Girl students, teachers and mothers will be recognized as valuable persons with the right to live a dignified and violence free life. This project will allow girls to identify and be able to speak out against violence perceived in home and school environments. It will also encourage girls to continue their studies, so they could become economically active in their communities when they graduate. It will also, give them the courage to speak about gender related issues that will benefit future generations, being political participants and decision makers. This project aims to encourage them in all these aspects.
