Asmae - Association Soeur Emmanuelle

Asmae is an independent, apolitical and secular NGO working in the field of child development. It's a foundation committed to support the most vulnerable children and youth, and to promote their empowerment through education and protection as well as on the socio-economic integration of youth.

Convinced that solutions come from the people themselves, Asmae has developed its own approach. It aims to systematically strengthen the work done by local actors and by the people, by providing long-term, tailor-made support in a climate of mutual respect and reciprocity. Our method of intervention in the field is based on the potential of each individual. It involves adapting to every context and every situation.

Our missions:

• To promote child development through a global approach. To achieve this, Asmae also works to support families within their environments.
• To increaes the capacities of local stakeholders in the area of child development, to improve the synergy between them to maximise their social impact.
• To champion children's causes by raising awareness and speaking out.

Our cross-sectoral approaches:

• Approach based on the rights of the child, recognising specific rights for children and underlining the obligations of responsible stakeholders to guarantee access to these rights and their protection.
• Promoting gender equality, ensuring that every child and youth has the same rights, whatever their gender
• Participation, which makes children and youth stakeholders in their own development and the changes happening in society. *Inclusion, which makes it possible to take the specific needs of every child and youth into account and offer services adapted to the most vulnerable (children in street situations, children with disabilities, etc.)

Our areas of intervention:

• Access to quality intervention, which is a comprehensive approach favoring children's development (affective, cognitive, physical and social). Asmae contributes to access to quality education by promoting preschool and early childhood development, access and retention in the school system, support the quality of teaching and learning, inclusive education, education in emergency contexts.

• Training and professional integration, which is a global approach aiming at giving the youth technical, professional and soft skills. Asmae contributes to training and professional integration by promoting: good orientation and personal choice of training, selection of vocational trainings adapted to the labor market, quality of teaching, employability and life skills, job search support and/or settlement/business linkage, post-training follow-up of youth, openness to the world and citizenship.

• Children's protection against violence and exploitation and promotion of their well-being: violence prevention includes domestic violence, gender-based violence, and online sexual exploitation. Asmae strives to establish a protective environment by strengthening protection systems at children's level, community level, partner level, school level and institutional level. Asmae provides adapted support to children victims of violence, discrimination and/or who are in highly vulnerable situations.

• Living together in a peaceful world: Asmae contributes to a better life together by promoting children and youth's participation and decision-making, promoting civic engagement of children and youth, promoting social cohesion, conflict prevention and peace building, promoting gender equality, promoing respect for the environment and the fight against climate change.
