Shaping the Future

Shaping the Future is a major expansion and upgrade of our west London home. Built in the 1930's for Chiswick Polytechnic, the demands of our training have long since outgrown the constraints of our building. This £20 million capital campaign will create the state-of-the art training facilities that our teaching requires and our students deserve, ensuring that ArtsEd remains at the forefront of conservatoire training in the UK. The beginning of this ten-year capital campaign was marked by the opening of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Theatre in November 2013. This wonderful proscenium arch space was generously supported by a sole donation of £3.5 million donation from the Foundation. What's happening now? Construction of the second phase of Shaping the Future commenced in July 2019 is scheduled for completion in late 2020. This brand new, three storey building, right in the heart of our site includes two new rehearsal spaces, new dance and acting studios, classrooms for the Day School & Sixth Form, a much larger and better equipped gym, a brand new communal space and the Green Roof, a wonderfully versatile terrace and studio on the top floor. We need your help We are currently fundraising for the third and final phase of this major capital campaign at ArtsEd. The creation of a brand-new performance space to replace the old Studio Theatre. With a 150-seat capacity and a thrust stage layout reflecting the intimacy of theatres like the Donmar Warehouse and Menier Chocolate Factory, the ArtsEd Playhouse will be an essential second performance space that will perfectly complement the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Theatre. Fully fitted out with state-of-the-art equipment, the Playhouse will be a versatile space, flexible to the needs of both Day School & Sixth Form pupils and degree students. The skills that they will develop in this more intimate performance space will be invaluable as they embark on their professional careers and a powerful addition to our training offer.
