In February 2024, Olivier Vandecasteele set up the Protect Humanitarians Fund within the King Baudouin Foundation (KBF).
Protect Humanitarians advocates for better protection of humanitarian aid workers and provides concrete support through:
- Emergency support, by enabling rapid medical, psychological, material and legal assistance to humanitarians, survivors of attacks, and/or their families, with a specific focus on local actors
- Legal expertise in support of humanitarian actors and/or their families seeking justice after attacks
- Experts’ sharing of good practices on mental health aid to humanitarian actors after critical incidents
- Advocacy towards decision-makers and awareness raising vis-à-vis the general public about the need to protect humanitarian actors
