Narrow Ridge Center

Narrow Ridge's mission is to provide experiential learning in Earth literacy based on the cornerstones of community, sustainability, and spirituality. Our vision is one of justice for all that makes up Earth and sustainability in the way we live our lives and the institutions and technologies we create. Our vision is one of education and leadership by example in creating alternatives to the present society and culture.

Narrow Ridge offers a variety of for credit and not for credit Earth literacy programs to learners of all ages including: Alternative Break; Sustainable Living/Immersion in Nature Experiences; Peace Camp; Vision Fast; and solar, natural building, food preservation and other skills-based workshops. We also provide internship and volunteer opportunities including but not limited to gardening, natural building, and trail maintenance.

Narrow Ridge offers sustainable eco-lodging for rent to individuals, families, and other groups on a rental basis. Our eco-facilities provide a sense of seclusion and immersion in nature and showcase eco-design features such as straw bale construction, passive solar design, on-demand water heaters, rainwater collection, composting toilets, and more.

Narrow Ridge oversees 4 interconnected community land trusts in which individuals and families lease land contained on Narrow Ridge's 550 acres and commit to live by sensible conservation restrictions. Many members of the Narrow Ridge community interact with Narrow Ridge participants by opening their homes for tours and sharing about their journey on the path to sustainability.

Narrow Ridge has a variety of offerings to the public that are currently on hold due to the pandemic. These offerings include yoga, meditation gatherings, music jams, film nights, potlucks and solstice and equinox celebrations.

Narrow Ridge owns and operates the Narrow Ridge Natural Burial Preserve which is the first contemporary "green cemetery" in the state of Tennessee. Our Natural Burial preserve offers a simple, sustainable, and affordable burial option with space provided on a donation basis.
