Democracy and mental health both depend on our ability to grapple with ideas we dislike and the people who disseminate them. Our tolerance for censorship is too high, mental illness is skyrocketing and democracies are failing. We must strengthen our ability to question, to disagree, to dissent, and to debate.

To raise the level of public discourse; to provide a new forum for intelligent discussion, grounded in facts and informed by reasoned analysis; to transcend the toxically emotional and the reflexively ideological; and to encourage recognition that the opposing side has intellectually respectable views.
