Greenland Trees

The Greenland Trees mission is to drawdown atmospheric CO2 into new forests; to partner with Greenlandic society, emphasising youth engagement and education; to restore the landscape in a heavily degraded former military base and other urbanised environments; to increase bird habitat and soil carbon; and to support forest research. Greenland Trees partnership with the King Baudouin Foundation US enables US 501c3 tax deductions. Greenland trees is also affiliated with the Dasht foundation, a public benefit (ANBI) organisation registered in The Netherlands, aiming to alleviate environmental and socio-economic issues around the globe. The Greenland Trees project was formally initiated in January 2019, but in practice started with a photographic survey in 2013 and tree plantings in 2015, 2016 and 2018, covering under 2 Ha in Narsarsuaq, south Greenland. The future of Greenland Trees involves increasing partnership with Greenlandic schools, museums and tourism, supporting forest research, and scaling up of planting activities to reach 100 Ha by 2030.
