Did you know that 1.3 million children in Kenya between 10-19 years old struggle with mental health? ChezaCheza has developed a robust dance therapy curriculum built to improve the mental health and well-being of children.

ChezaCheza is a Kenyan not-for-profit founded in 2018, and we are on a mission to create access to safe spaces for children in marginalised communities where dance supports their mental health and well-being.

Through our therapeutic dance sessions, children experience the joy of dancing while flourishing into young adults with strong minds who show up in life with self-esteem and high self-awareness and approach life’s challenges with responsible actions.

Our Why
Children in marginalised communities live in a chronic environment of stress, with high levels of violence, abuse and adversity. 

This is an environment that induces toxic stress, making it difficult for children to regulate their emotions, resulting in impulsive actions and decisions, physical acting out, drug abuse, anxiety, and low self-esteem. ChezaCheza wants to use dance as therapy to combat this.

Community Dance Coaches
We find, train and equip dancers from marginalised communities to become Community-Based Dance Coaches who create safe spaces in their communities and schools.

Through an intensive training program, they gain skills to guide a ChezaCheza session, where they teach children how dance can be a tool for expressing their feelings, releasing stress, and building confidence.

Children receive a child-friendly, fun and culturally appropriate mental health service through weekly therapeutic dance sessions.

Each session incorporates Dance Movement Therapy, Social-Emotional Learning and Mindfulness Meditation.

Women of Color Unite fights for fair access, fair treatment & fair pay for WOC in the entertainment industry. 

Women of Color Unite (WOCU) is a social action non-profit organization focusing on fair access, fair treatment and fair pay for women of color in all aspects of the entertainment and media industries. **What is the musée de Montmartre ?** 

In the heart of Montmartre, this **charming and atypical Museum** is settled in the old houses of the neighborhood. The Museum’s buildings are surrounded by gardens and were where **many renowned artists worked** (e.g., **Auguste Renoir, Emile Bernard, Raoul Dufy**)... You can also see the studio-apartment of **Suzanne Valadon** (the first woman ever admitted to the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts).

The **permanent collection** presents the **rich history of Montmartre**, the excitement of its workshops and the **atmosphere of its famous cabarets**, from the Lapin Agile to the Moulin Rouge. The collection includes paintings, posters and drawings by **Toulouse-Lautrec,** **Modigliani, Kupka,** and **Steinlen** among many others.

American Piano Awards supports America's next world-class jazz and classical pianist. We are America's piano competition. 

The mission of the American Piano Awards is to discover, promote and advance the careers of young, American, world-class jazz and classical pianists. We celebrate the beauty of music through America’s premiere jazz and classical awards. The American Pianists Awards are a biennial competition that rotates between a jazz and classical focus. The Awards span 18 months and culminate in a final performance where a winner is announced. The grand prize is valued at over $200,000 and includes a cash prize, career assistance, a record contract, and artist representation. This prize is one of the largest awards for a classical artist and the biggest for jazz. Our finalists and winners have gone on to build careers as renowned soloists and educators as well as receive critical acclaim and awards like Grammys, Emmys, and Avery Fischer Career Grants. Our pianists also inspire the next generation of musicians and music lovers through our Concerto Curriculum program. The Concerto Curriculum is a three-day high school residency in Indianapolis area high schools that culminates in a joint public performance with students.

American Piano Awards

One of the most sought-after young artist programs in France 

This Paris-based opera company is dedicated to lyric repertoire from the mid-18th century to the present. Founded and directed by American conductor David Stern, it combines an ambitious young artists program and a versatile instrumental ensemble.  Opera Fuoco has been in existence since 2003 initially as a top-level period instrument ensemble and later as an internationally recognized young artist troupe.  David Stern, Katharina Wolff and the Fuoco team have developed a multi-faceted program to develop young vocal talent at a professional level.  Opera Fuoco offers a unique, custom-made experience to young singers transitioning from conservatory to professional life.  Singers are able to work with Maestro Stern, experienced vocal coaches and stage directors in various contexts ranging from masterclasses and recitals to large-scale performances with orchestra and fully staged opera productions. The repertoire spans not only several centuries but a variety of genres, from baroque to contemporary, including musical comedy and jazz.  Opera Fuoco has shaped its young artist program not as an academy but as a professional company for young singers engaged for a period of three to four years. In its 13 years of existence, Opera Fuoco's Young Artist Program has trained approximately 50 singers from 15 different countries. Our 15 current members come from 5 different countries, and candidates from the last round of auditions represented 34 nationalities. Opera Fuoco's activities are largely Paris-area based, with masterclasses held in prestigious spaces such as the Petit Palais and regular concerts at the Philharmonie de Paris and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. The ARChive of Contemporary Music is a not-for-profit music library dedicated to collecting, preserving and providing information about popular music from around the world.    Now in its twenty-eighth year of operation, ARC is the largest and most important popular music collection in the world – with over three million sound recordings and approximately four million  photographs, books, press kits, videos, memorabilia and related ephemera.   Our simple goal is to guarantee that the world’s musical heritage is preserved for future generations to study and enjoy.     We believe that all forms of popular music, jazz, be-bop, bluegrass, country, rock, rap, blues, enka, reggae, calypso, zydeco, and countless other forms are significant cultural expressions.  All musics entertain as well as reveal a people and their values to the rest of the world.

Lilla Akademien is a leading international hub for concerts, courses, and masterclasses for young performers.

The Foundation shall promote high-quality music education for children and young people by supporting activities conducted directly or indirectly by the Lilla Akademien Foundation or any educational and concert activities within the field of art music that may replace it, which share the values and holistic approach of the Lilla Akademien Foundation. The Foundation shall primarily support activities in such a way that Lilla Akademien can develop the project "Rum för musikaliska möten" (Room for Musical Encounters) and build an international music centre for children and young people in music.

The Foundation shall support the activities in such a way that the music education provided has good opportunities to maintain a high quality and a high international standard. The Foundation shall support the activities, while the Lilla Akademien Foundation is exclusively responsible for the content of the education and concert activities.

The current return on the Foundation's assets may be used to promote its objectives. Part of the foundation's assets may be used following a special decision by the board. However, it is important that the board takes into account the Lilla Akademien Foundation's long-term need for support for its activities.

The Lilla Akademien Music School is a unique, specially designed music school, where a comprehensive and solid music education is integrated with the various subjects of primary school.

The school's music education aims to give students an in-depth knowledge and experience of music. Our students become involved in a musical collaboration across age boundaries and participate in the music life both inside and outside the school, which promotes a good cohesion among the students. 

The school's timetable includes group instruction in music theory subjects, choral singing in all grades, orchestra and ensemble as well as instruments. Instrument instruction is a very central part of the education and each student receives 20 minutes of individual instruction on his or her main instrument. The Little Academy offers instruction in most instruments: piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass; wind instruments such as recorder, flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, oboe, French horn, bassoon and saxophone, as well as percussion, guitar, harp, organ and chordion. Students receive individual instrument instruction of the highest international standard.

Making music together provides both joy, stimulation and challenges. The school has built up an extensive ensemble program for all different instruments and has a large orchestral activity. Orchestral and ensemble playing is included in the regular teaching. All students gain solid stage experience by performing at several of the school's many concerts.

To further strengthen the artistic character, all students receive instruction in creative subjects such as dance and art, with the aim of providing deeper contact with other creative forms of expression.

Eye Zen Presents illuminates and preserves hidden LGBTQ+ histories through interdisciplinary performance, archival activation, and intergenerational exchange. We create immersive public art rooted in place, memory, and accessibility that connects queer elders, artists, and audiences. Our practice pairs hands-on archival preservation with new creative works so that endangered legacies are safeguarded and shared as living culture.

SFNF is San Francisco's premiere performance art troupe and a fiscally sponsored project of Intersection for the Arts.

The San Francisco Neo-Futurists are a collective of wildly prolific artists dedicated to the perpetual creation of experimental theatre that is immediate, ephemeral, accessible, and cheap. We believe the stage is an extension of daily life: we perform as ourselves in a non-illusory, interactive style that challenges the audience to create alongside us as active participants with a voice of their own. We respect and uplift each other on and off stage through non-hierarchical accountability, collective decision-making, and anti-oppression practice of all kinds. We do over 100 shows a year and we will never stop. 

San Francisco Neo-Futurists

We provide education and support to young defectors and foster their integration into South Korean society. 

Yeomyung School is a government approved alternative school to provide education and support young NK defectors in their integration into South Korean society. Students include those in middle school and high school and range in age from 16 to 25 years old. Courses offered prepare students for the next level of their education. These courses include: science, math, social studies, English, etc. The Ministry of Unification is responsible for oversight of Yeomyung School.

We are a community-building nonprofit organization committed to waste reduction and sustainable resource management.

The impending closure of the Ontario Landfill leaves us with big challenges. ReUse Systems Inc. will be part of the solution across the region, providing practical ways to reduce what we throw away. 

We understand that resources are finite, especially within our smaller communities. The linear waste stream of make, buy, use, and throw away continues to add to the landfill mass without regard to environmental or human impact. Our purpose is to create a retail store community hub and network for sustainable rural living within the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. We champion a circular economy model with reuse, waste diversion, skills training, resource sharing and social and environmental justice at the foundation of this effort. Together, we can create a future where less is wasted—and more is possible.

c89.5 is a listener-supported, non-commercial radio station owned by the Seattle Public Schools and operated by professional adult staff and students in the electronic media program at Nathan Hale High School. The station is almost entirely self-funded: over 87% of its operating revenue comes from listener donations and local businesses.

Over 150,000 listeners throughout Puget Sound tune to c89.5 every week for a diverse range of music celebrating individual differences and focusing on the joy in life. The station reaches a broad range of listeners, with a high concentration in both the 18-24 and 45-54 age ranges. Over 30% of c89.5 listeners identify as LGBTQ+.

c89.5 supports the personal and professional growth of our students, giving them the skills and confidence to succeed in careers in media and other professions. Our students gain practical experience in digital media production, public speaking, and professional presentation. Many of our alumni have gone on to careers in journalism, radio, television, and digital media.

The station is also a pioneer and worldwide leader in dance music, monitored by Neilsen and by MediaBase, and one of eight stations tracked for the Billboard Dance chart.

The Rivanna Area Queer Center provides a safe refuge for all LGBTQIA+ people 
in Charlottesville and the surrounding counties.

LGBTQIA+ people need spaces of our own where we can take refuge, build resilient communities, and organize for our collective liberation. RAQC provides a safe and loving home for the queer community in Charlottesville and the surrounding counties. Programming at RAQC addresses multiple areas of need: support groups, peer counseling, and on-site mental health professionals contribute to the emotional wellbeing of our community. Classes and workshops on topics as diverse as screen printing, foraging, and self defense address our physical and creative needs. Social events like mixers, parties, and performances ensure that our region’s vibrant queer culture continues to flourish. In addition to our own programming, RAQC also serves as a safe and accessible space where all local queer organizations and individuals can host their own events.

An endowment protecting the Los Cedros cloud forest forever.

Held in the mists of the Ecuadorian Tropical Andes, a scientific station works with local communities to protect a cloud forest known as Los Cedros (“The Cedars”). The station encourages artists, educators, and researchers to connect with and learn from Los Cedros, whose walking palm trees and old growth lift racket-tail hummingbirds and critically endangered brown-headed spider monkeys into the clouds. Decades of interdependent artwork and scientific discovery from the station—including over 100 publications—factored into the 2021 [decision of Ecuador’s highest court](https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/dec/02/plan-to-mine-in-ecuador-forest-violate-rights-of-nature-court-rules-aoe) to ban extractive practices in the forest by upholding Los Cedros’ constitutional rights to exist and to thrive.

This ruling set a monumental precedent for worldwide Rights of Nature efforts. Yet mining companies continue to apply pressure to Los Cedros communities and Ecuadorian authorities—and if mining comes to pass in Los Cedros, it will devastate one of the most biodiverse and endemic forests in the world. Home to thousands of wildlife species, Los Cedros spans 6000 hectares of mostly primary forest habitat. There, the threatened spectacled bear builds a tree bed to feast on aguacatillo berries (tiny avocados), and the elusive jaguar has left her tracks on the banks of waterfalls. In the abundant green shadows, undiscovered fungi, insects, and orchids flourish. A glass frog hides his heartbeat under a leaf.

As one of the rare places where humans can still drink directly from cascading rivers, this refuge also protects numerous watersheds crucial to downstream communities. So, the Los Cedros Fund will prove that the station’s approach of sustainably partnering with the cloud forest and surrounding communities is best for Pachamama—all of Mother Earth, including humans—in the long term.

The Los Cedros Fund is growing an endowment for the cloud forest to be financially self-sufficient. Honoring all who’ve protected the forest for decades, the Los Cedros Fund aims to offer this new watershed of perennial support to the forest to keep artistic, educational, and scientific collaborations flowing.

We aim to advance the mental wellbeing of our South Asian community.

In 2021, during their freshman year of college, our founders Ravi Parekh and Aaron Pandian suffered the loss of their close friend and roommate, Farhan, in a tragic murder-suicide where he took the lives of himself and his family. 

Farhan was struggling with a variety of inadequately treated mental illnesses. However, like so many members of the South Asian-American community, his parents simply lacked the tools, resources, and education necessary for providing him the care he needed.

They recognized that, as an immigrant South Asian family, they lacked the tools, resources, and education necessary for providing Farhan the care he needed. The tragedy of Farhan and his family revealed that there are many mental health issues unique to the cultural characteristics of South Asians. Understanding that these environmental factors and structural barriers to effective care created the situation which led to this tragedy, we theorized a youth-led grass-roots advocacy and education initiative that equips South Asian youth and other interested parties with access to tools and resources to understand, process, and empower.

Grass-roots efforts are often inspired by lived experiences. Our passion and drive to bridge the gaps in mental health care for South Asian individuals stem from our lived experiences.

Knowledge is empowering, and part of understanding mental health is to both learn and express empathy for those affected who are unable to receive effective care. To learn not to fear mental illness as a sibling, parent, friend, significant other, or affected individual and employ newly acquired tools that work to connect with the resources they need. 

MHISA embodies these ideals and provides us an outlet to engage those around us with a shared goal: to enable South Asians struggling with mental illness to lead better and healthful lives.

Mental Health Initiative for South Asians

Trains and empowers educators/leaders to create racially equitable, safe, and empowering educational spaces for all youth.

The Center for Racial Justice in Education (CRJE) works to construct a new reality within our country's public school system; a world where all young people learn and thrive in equitable and affirming educational spaces. CRJE’s work with districts, schools, organizations, and community members result in empowered educators and leaders who are better equipped to build educational institutions that foster equitable outcomes, and ensure that all students have safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive spaces to learn.

 Since 2012 alone CRJE has trained over 17,000 educators/leaders, reached over 167,000 youth, and worked with over 400 educational partners in 17 states. Our work consists of intensive leadership and professional development trainings, longer-term, in-depth coaching and consultation, community-driven climate assessments, and youth-adult partnerships, all customized to meet the unique needs of each educational partner. In the long-term, through collective practice for educational equity at the institutional level, and through mutually accountable partnerships and coalition building at the community level, we aim to build an education system and spaces where all youth feel safe, and have access to a high-quality education. In this system, we will see:

- Students who are emotionally, physically and academically thriving. 
- Educators and leaders who have an ongoing, consistent practice of building educational communities grounded in equity. 
- Caregivers who are empowered to actively engage in community building.
- Public policy that has shifted to reflect racial equity and justice in education.
