Mystic Arts Foundation exists to support artists and develop artistic works that create the opportunity for transformation.

The Mystic Arts Foundation (“MAF”) is an organizational platform established to support and develop artistic works and pieces which provide experiences and environments that are conducive to personal transformation. 

MAF, a California corporation, is an IRS-qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which offers legal organization, structure, full-service turn-key administrative services, and financial support for transformative artists and their projects.  A primary purpose of MAF is to allow artists to play in their zone of genius and do what they do best – which is to create art … without being encumbered by many of the organizational, administrative, and fundraising hurdles of executing such important projects.  The MAF structure also provides contributors and grant providers full transparency, governance, and reporting to support their contribution/grant mission and serves to match benefactors of such artworks to well-vetted, managed, and operating artists and their projects.

MAF, born out of its inaugural project – the Mystic Flyer Art Car, has been established and formed as a tax-deductible nonprofit organization in order to effectively and efficiently solicit contributions and grants, creating a vibrant hub of creativity for transformative and immersive art experiences.  At first, it was named Mystic Flyer Arts Foundation, however, within a few months, it became clear that our mission was much larger than the mutant vehicle project that inspired its formation, and “Flyer” was dropped from public-facing written materials.  This change was officially recognized on 1/31/19.

The Board of Directors will primarily focus on selecting and supporting best-in-class artists that have the drive and vision to create works with the ability to transform an individual’s experience and consciousness.  MAF will support a diverse group of artists and art projects including the development of emerging artistic technologies, art cars, and other portable immersive exhibits which can be displayed and experienced in various formats.  Artists that are supported by MAF will have access to an extended network of constituents, supporters, and thought leaders as resources for both developing and then displaying their art.

Mission

It is the mission, duty, and purpose of The Mystic Arts Foundation (MAF) to bring interactive and immersive art experiences to the public in the United States and beyond.

MAF provides mobile and portable art platforms as an educational showcase for graphic artists, LED lighting artists, technology artists, music/sound artists, and more. We provide opportunities for learning about the arts and the creation of new art in all settings through workshops…whether we are working on new technologies or art in our warehouse facilities between events or at events open to the general public.

Education

MAF provides education in the arts as they relate to the current artists we are working with. Artists are invited to participate with the understanding that they will also provide live, interactive, or recorded education on how the particular art is conceived and developed from the inception of the idea to the completion of the art for display and interaction with the general public.

Programs for Volunteers

At times, per the discretion of the board of directors, we may provide internships or volunteer opportunities which will provide a pathway for involvement in art development and outreach activities and programs in order to have a greater impact on educating the public and introducing new art, artists, and technologies. Some of the activities that volunteers may be involved in are basic education on topics such as graphic design, painting, lighting design, visual perspectives, sound technologies, digital music creation, etc. Such activities shall always be free of charge to participants and will not include compensation to the volunteers.

Multimedia

It is our goal to bring awareness to interactive and immersive art from every medium possible and this does not exclude documentaries and photos of our activities, projects, programs, and expeditions. All programs and art projects will be available to the public through displays at festivals, events, and other public venues.

Our primary revenue is derived from donations.  We also accept supportive payments from a variety of commercial art venues where our participation is made possible by receiving payments used to cover the expenses involved.

Did you know that 1.3 million children in Kenya between 10-19 years old struggle with mental health? ChezaCheza has developed a robust dance therapy curriculum built to improve the mental health and well-being of children.

ChezaCheza is a Kenyan not-for-profit founded in 2018, and we are on a mission to create access to safe spaces for children in marginalised communities where dance supports their mental health and well-being.

Through our therapeutic dance sessions, children experience the joy of dancing while flourishing into young adults with strong minds who show up in life with self-esteem and high self-awareness and approach life’s challenges with responsible actions.

Our Why
Children in marginalised communities live in a chronic environment of stress, with high levels of violence, abuse and adversity. 

This is an environment that induces toxic stress, making it difficult for children to regulate their emotions, resulting in impulsive actions and decisions, physical acting out, drug abuse, anxiety, and low self-esteem. ChezaCheza wants to use dance as therapy to combat this.

Community Dance Coaches
We find, train and equip dancers from marginalised communities to become Community-Based Dance Coaches who create safe spaces in their communities and schools.

Through an intensive training program, they gain skills to guide a ChezaCheza session, where they teach children how dance can be a tool for expressing their feelings, releasing stress, and building confidence.

Weekly Dance Sessions
Children receive a child-friendly, fun and culturally appropriate mental health service through weekly therapeutic dance sessions.

Each session incorporates Dance Movement Therapy, Social-Emotional Learning and Mindfulness Meditation.

Since our founding in 2007 by a group of Arab cultural activists, AFAC has become a cornerstone of the arts and culture sector in the Arab region. Over the past nearly two decades, we have granted almost $50 million to more than 2,000 projects, enabling around 1,000 emerging artists. Areas of Work

AFAC’s work is divided into five strategic areas: providing grants, developing training programs, building and sharing knowledge, broadening the pool of supporters for the arts, and cultivating appreciation for and engagement with contemporary arts and culture productions by connecting them with audiences. Over the past 17 years, AFAC has spearheaded and accompanied a brewing artistic scene in the Arab

region, providing financial and professional support to performing and visual artists, writers, filmmakers, photographers, researchers and cultural activists, as well as to arts and culture institutions, in the region and in diaspora. What began in 2007 as an answer to a pressing need for support in a few arts and culture disciplines continued to expand in an adaptive manner, always aiming to transform and accommodate new needs and challenges, by growing the support for more disciplines, designing training programs, and building and sharing knowledge. AFAC’s database of more than 2000 projects supported over the last 17 years is testament to how continuous unrestricted support has contributed to the growth in talent, bold creative voices, and tools of creative expression. AFAC believes that art production and cultural institutions are the best vehicles to encourage the exchange of ideas, broach controversial themes that challenge conservatism and social taboos, re-build trust in civil society, decrease polarization, and give voice to lived experiences from within these societies themselves and marginalized communities.

AFAC seeks to support arts and culture projects and initiatives that contribute to the following goals:

● Take advantage of the gray areas and collapse of self-evident certitudes in our region to spur fresh thinking and innovative visions of the future.

Search for tools to bear witness to the hopes and hindrances our region is living through, with techniques that go past traditional documentation to create new forms of experimentation in writing and ways of dealing with the image.

● Rediscover the complexity and diversity of our societies, and search for marginalized narratives in both the near and distant pasts.

● Promote engagement between Arab societies and their diasporas, especially after such a large number of Arab artists have become refugees or been forced into exile across the globe, which has reflected on them personally and the art they produce, as well as on the societies they are now working in.

● Expand the space for civic engagement through the offerings of intellectuals, artists, researchers and civil society organizations, a space for dialogue, questioning, critical reflection, and tolerance.

Story House Ithaca brings people together to share, study, create, and enjoy stories in all their forms.

Story House Ithaca creates spaces in Tompkins County where people of all interests and backgrounds can come together to share, study, create, and enjoy stories in all their forms. We define “story” very broadly, to include fiction and nonfiction, poetry and song, documentary, journalism, photography, audio, film, theater, puppetry, visual and performance art, graphics, dance, oral history, and every other way of communicating ideas and experience. Our definition of “house” is also broad. We hope eventually to settle into our own space, but for now we’re excited to be popping up online and around the community.

**The Problem**

Our society is going through a period of fracturing, as people of different socioeconomic, cultural, and educational backgrounds divide into ever more insular groups. One reason for this is a lack of opportunities for people to interact in meaningful and non-threatening ways. This has had disastrous consequences in politics, public health, and many other areas.
 
**Our Approach**

Stories have always brought people together. They’re how we make sense of ourselves and how we learn about one another. Tompkins County is full of writers, artists, musicians, filmmakers, and storytellers of all kinds, as well as organizations with important stories to tell. With this in mind: 
 
 

- Story House creates. We dream up, organize, and present workshops, discussions, readings, talks, screenings, exhibitions, performances, participatory projects, and other activities. 
- Story House collaborates. We work with organizations, artists, activists, scholars, and others to plan and present compelling programming. 
- Story House connects. We help creative people and groups find new partners and reach new audiences.

**Our Team**

Lesley Greene (co-director) is a producer, designer, writer, and director. She worked for many years at the Kitchen Theatre Company, where she curated and produced three performance series, created sound and projection designs, and served as chief grant writer and head of marketing. She is a co-founder and co-organizer of Porchfest, a festival that began in Ithaca in 2007 and now takes place in more than 150 cities across North America.
  
Jonathan Miller (co-director) is a writer, journalist, editor, radio producer, podcaster, and media project leader whose work has taken him to more than 20 countries. Since 2006, he has been executive director of Homelands Productions, an award-winning journalism collective that specializes in public radio features and documentaries. Jon serves on the board of Ithaca City of Asylum and on the community advisory council of WRFI community radio.

The Center for Transformative Action (CTA) helps create communities that are socially just, ecologically sound, and work for everyone. We do this through our educational programs and by supporting system-changing projects with incubator and fiscal sponsorship services. Our projects work to transform the structures, as well as the habits of mind, that produce inequities in our communities, country, and the world. Center for Transformative Action

The Civic Circle empowers students students to understand and participate in democracy through music and the arts.

The Civic Circle launched in 2018 to empower low-income students with civic skills, lift youth voices through the arts, and close a well-documented equity gap in civic learning and engagement.

Since then, we’ve reached more than 5,000 underserved students with our after-school workshops, assembly shows and community civic events. The heart of our program is seven civic skills we call “steps to democracy”— Listen, Learn, Choose, Join, Speak, Act and Lead. In other words, be a compassionate, informed, engaged citizen.

Civic learning correlates to better school performance, and college and career readiness. Students in our programs do Social Studies and service-learning activities, and work with teaching artists to create and perform their own civic songs, poems, and art pieces. Along the way they build literacy, confidence, self-expression, and social and emotional skills.

Our innovative, multicultural program equips students with the civic skills they will need to become voters and leaders in their communities, a mission that is increasingly crucial both for student achievement, and for our success as a democratic society. For more than 65 years, ITBA - Instituto Tecnólogico de Buenos Aires  has contributed to solving the challenges of humanity through a university education recognized for its excellence, the production of scientific knowledge and international collaboration, and outstanding levels of excellence among its graduates.

Thanks to the financial contribution of companies and individuals, scholarships are obtained so that young people  with talent, passion and determination, can study at ITBA.

Together they developed LANIN a hybrid rocket and became the first Latin American team to launch it successfully with engines using solid and liquid propellants.

We provide education and support to young defectors and foster their integration into South Korean society. 

Yeomyung School is a government approved alternative school to provide education and support young NK defectors in their integration into South Korean society. Students include those in middle school and high school and range in age from 16 to 25 years old. Courses offered prepare students for the next level of their education. These courses include: science, math, social studies, English, etc. The Ministry of Unification is responsible for oversight of Yeomyung School.

Empowering children to LEARN artistic skills, HEAL from trauma, EARN through their creativity to THRIVE at school & in life.

What if vulnerable children’s art could pay their school fees, help heal their trauma and communities? 

Faces Up Uganda empowers marginalised youth (ages 6–25) through arts education, psychosocial support, and school sponsorships. Children’s own artwork is turned into merchandise, with proceeds funding their education and wellbeing. By partnering with organisations for custom gifts, we make every purchase a step toward equity, healing, and creativity.

Faces Up Uganda

We aim to advance the mental wellbeing of our South Asian community.

In 2021, during their freshman year of college, our founders Ravi Parekh and Aaron Pandian suffered the loss of their close friend and roommate, Farhan, in a tragic murder-suicide where he took the lives of himself and his family. 

Farhan was struggling with a variety of inadequately treated mental illnesses. However, like so many members of the South Asian-American community, his parents simply lacked the tools, resources, and education necessary for providing him the care he needed.

They recognized that, as an immigrant South Asian family, they lacked the tools, resources, and education necessary for providing Farhan the care he needed. The tragedy of Farhan and his family revealed that there are many mental health issues unique to the cultural characteristics of South Asians. Understanding that these environmental factors and structural barriers to effective care created the situation which led to this tragedy, we theorized a youth-led grass-roots advocacy and education initiative that equips South Asian youth and other interested parties with access to tools and resources to understand, process, and empower.

Grass-roots efforts are often inspired by lived experiences. Our passion and drive to bridge the gaps in mental health care for South Asian individuals stem from our lived experiences.

Knowledge is empowering, and part of understanding mental health is to both learn and express empathy for those affected who are unable to receive effective care. To learn not to fear mental illness as a sibling, parent, friend, significant other, or affected individual and employ newly acquired tools that work to connect with the resources they need. 

MHISA embodies these ideals and provides us an outlet to engage those around us with a shared goal: to enable South Asians struggling with mental illness to lead better and healthful lives.

Arts For Life is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting pediatric patients and families through arts education and engagement. Psychedelic substances have the potential to facilitate profound personal insights and emotional healing. However, they can also elicit overwhelming psychological distress. To navigate these complexities, it’s essential that communities are equipped to provide compassionate and culturally attuned care for supporting people in non-ordinary states of consciousness. 


The Zendo Project provides peer-based compassionate care at events and offers educational resources to communities and organizations. We support individuals in navigating complex psychedelic experiences, emotions, and other non-ordinary states of consciousness, reducing potential harms and fostering opportunities for deeper connection to self and others.

Self Enquiry Life Fellowship is a nonprofit organization with worldwide outreach guided by the monastic wisdom of the Hansavedas Mission. The Nonprofit, with its headquarters in California, preserves indigenous knowledge from the Sanskrit heritage, including: extant literature on spiritual philosophy that is meaningful to modern inquiry; spiritual practices of Vedic antiquity that bring about peace in our communities through mindful participation; Himalayan yoga-vinyāsa and Ayurveda that promote wellness and mindfulness in daily living; and Himalayan meditation techniques of unbroken lineages which bring about mental clarity and compassion through self-empowerment, ultimately guiding the meditator to liberation.

The organization is enriched with extraordinary guidance from several Vedic monks of ancient monastic orders. It is rare for reclusive Himalayan monks, who have penanced in Himalaya, to become available to seekers or devotees and serve by disseminating precious streams of knowledge. His Holiness Swami Vidyadhishananda, who is one such ordained Vedic monk of the Giri monastic order, is the spiritual head of the Hansavedas Mission and the spiritual founder of the Nonprofit.
