By establishing long-term relationships with sister organizations based in settings of poverty, Partners In Health strives to achieve two overarching goals: to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need of them and to serve as an antidote to despair.

We draw on the resources of the world’s leading medical and academic institutions and on the lived experience of the world’s poorest and sickest communities. At its root, our mission is both medical and moral. It is based on solidarity, rather than charity alone.

When our patients are ill and have no access to care, our team of health professionals, scholars, and activists will do whatever it takes to make them well—just as we would do if a member of our own families or we ourselves were ill.

Our Core Beliefs:
-    All human lives have the same value, and every human being has the inalienable right to be healthy to fulfill their potential.
-    The right to health is not the only right held by our patients. Other fundamental human rights are interrelated and just as inalienable.
-    All people need to stand in solidarity with those who find themselves at the margins of modern society.
-    The playing field needs to be leveled for those individuals who are born at a disadvantage (equity vs equality).
-    Injustice is not accidental but a direct result of structural violence and oppression. We can fight injustice by changing those dynamics.
-    It is our moral call to action to expose social injustice and to work toward correcting those systemic forces that create inequalities, no matter how impossible or challenging this task might look.

A hot plate of food when it’s needed most. For people fighting or fleeing disasters, we are here. 

Ten years ago, my wife Patricia and I had a big dream to start World Central Kitchen. We envisioned an organization that would create smart solutions to hunger and poverty, and for many years we saw an amazing impact through our clean cookstoves initiative, culinary training programs, and social enterprise ventures that empower communities and strengthen economies. But we had no idea we would one day be answering the call in Puerto Rico and around the world – “Food First Responders” serving millions of meals each year. In the process, we learned that a small NGO can change the world through the power of food.

Last year, WCK activated in response to dozens of disasters — some of them natural, and some man-made. From serving children in the shelters on our border with Mexico to making deliveries by lamplight to those keeping watch over beaches in Indonesia, our fight to feed the hungry has taken us to more places than we ever expected.

At the same time, WCK continues planting roots in the communities where we work. Our Plow to Plate program is helping to create food resiliency in the face of future disasters. In Haiti, aspiring chefs are obtaining the skills and confidence they need to elevate their careers and the country’s tourism sector.

With your help, we have shown that there is no place too far or disaster too great for our chefs to be there with a hot plate of food when it’s needed most.

During public health crises like the COVID-19 outbreak, kids and families on the brink of poverty are disproportionately impacted. When schools are closed and hourly wages are scaled back, the service we provide is even more critical. Yet we're facing unprecedented challenges ourselves, with rapid changes to our volunteer workforce and distribution networks.

As our community responds to the COVID-19 outbreak, Second Harvest of Silicon Valley remains committed to our mission knowing that our most vulnerable community members are deeply and disproportionately impacted by public crises such as this. We are in ongoing communication with our partners, staff and volunteers to maintain safe practices that will ensure nutritious food continues to flow into the community.

On Monday, March 16, 2020 food banks were officially named by the California Department of Public Health as an essential service provider. Because of this important inclusion in the CDPH’s guidelines, we expect to remain fully operational so we can continue serving our community.

The Food Bank continues to do the day-in and day-out job of making sure vulnerable neighbors get the food they need. Now, we are putting solutions in place, one by one, to be able to continue providing food and helping our community prepare for whatever challenge the COVID-19 presents.

Every year, the Food Bank works with poverty and hunger researchers to try to understand the food needs of low-income San Francisco and Marin residents. This report, called ‘Missing Meals in San Francisco and Marin’ is a look at the meals we provide to our community’s low-income residents through nonprofit and government food programs, and how many more meals are still needed to fill the gap.

This research provides a rigorous assessment of trends in the food landscape in both San Francisco and Marin Counties, and the role of government and nonprofit food providers in meeting ongoing food needs.  The report finds that there are a staggering 35 million missing meals in our service area, meaning that despite historic gains in our local social safety net, we still have much more work to do in our fight to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin.

The Donors' Association was established as joint initiative of the German economy in 1920 and advocates sustainable improvement of education, science and research in Germany. More and more private persons and companies are taking on commitments in coalescent Europe and across the world. But well-intended help frequently fails to overcome bureaucratic hurdles. For example, German tax legislature denies donation deductions to organisations outside of Europe. Donations are theoretically deductible within the EU but in reality, this can generally only be achieved with excessive expenditures for donor and recipient. The DSZ – International Giving Foundation is recognized as a tax-privileged organisation. It pursues all purposes recognized in Germany as charitable and benevolent. The DSZ – International Giving Foundation supports the international project specified by the donor and takes care of the complete administrative process. The donor receives a donation receipt valid by German law. We believe that healthcare is a human right for every African citizen and aim to be the most efficient and cost-effective option in the region for the majority of the population.

The Rome Biomedical Campus University Foundation is a non-profit entity with the objective of supporting Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome to serve the mission and the ideals of humanistic-scientific integration. The Biomedical University Foundation arises from the awareness that the future of University Institutions depends very much on their financial independence which cannot be based exclusively on ever more tightly controlled public funding or on occasional acts of philanthropy. The pursuit of excellence has high costs and necessarily leads to plans to finance long-term projects. Looking ahead, scientific and economic research and clinical health activity will become increasingly fascinating but also more challenging and competitive. These considerations have led to the creation of an Endowment Fund - similar to that of other important European and international university institutions - at the service of the mission and activities of teaching, research, health care, international expansion and humanistic-scientific integration of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome.  The Foundation is working to strongly incentivize "benevolence", both that which originates from companies and private individuals, and that which comes from institutions. At Noora Health, we believe no human being should suffer because of a preventable medical condition.

Noora Health is focused on improving patient outcomes in public health systems in India, Bangladesh, and Indonesia by training the family caregivers of patients admitted to government hospitals - making them an integral part of healthcare delivery. They develop high quality training and education materials (videos, flipcharts etc) delivered through a train the trainer model for healthcare professionals to use in-hospital to upskill and train the family and patient. They also have a post-discharge follow-up on mobile (via WhatsApp, teletraining, and voice messages) that allows them to share content with families when they return home, be there in a moment of need, answer questions etc. 

They have seen remarkable outcomes – in a cohort of patients, the program reduced post-surgical cardiac complications by 71%, maternal complications by 12%, newborn complications by 16%, newborn readmissions by 56%, and newborn mortality by 18%. 

Noora Health is in the scale-up phase of their work, aiming to reach 70 million caregivers in the next five years (they recently surpassed 3 million), and they are eager to leverage their digital capabilities to achieve this with high fidelity to the quality they are known for.

Gram Vikas Trust (GVT) came into existence as a result of the motivation and personal initiative of its founder, Mr. Ramesh Kasondra, to enhance the socio-economic status of the underprivileged people. Hailing from a rural family, the founder was no stranger to hardships faced by the underprivileged. Having overcome economic and social challenges, due to the backing and economic blessings from certain elder society leaders, the founder set out to do his best to make a positive difference in the lives of fellow underprivileged.

Working with a team of committed people, GVT’s aim has been to secure integrated development through people’s participation. The key areas identified for interventions include child rights, education, health and hygiene, sustainable livelihood, and women empowerment. Our efforts have developed lasting association with government, non-government and corporate organizations as also with the communities and groups with whom we have worked.

We have come a long way following a small beginning in June 2001, and have implemented a wide variety of projects related to child rights for change, reproductive child health care, quality education, watershed development, wasteland development, tribal development, low cost sanitation, alternate energy sources, self-help groups, vocational training to youth, and women empowerment in Bharuch and Narmada Districts of Gujarat state in India.

ABOUT IBF IBF was established as a non-profit organization in 2014, to provide primary quality healthcare to those who are unable to afford or reach it, by organizing medical convoys and operating fixed satellite clinics in the most underprivileged remote areas across Egypt. Our fixed Satellite Clinics and Mobile Health Clinics are equipped with all the required medical tools and equipment to provide quality healthcare services as well as a pharmacy unit to provide medication to patients through a highly trained medical team and passionate volunteers.  Satellite Clinics: Our fixed satellite clinic offers diagnosis, medication, follow-ups, and surgeries, with top-quality medical equipment, a highly trained medical team, and passionate volunteers. Our clinics are equipped with Telemedicine to enable us to connect with medical specialists in Cairo to cover broader medical specialities. Through our Satellite Clinics, we also deliver weekly medical convoys to rural areas across the governorate to be able to reach underprivileged families, as well as offer, follow-ups or surgery referrals at the satellite clinic. The problem: In Kenya, women are significantly disadvantaged both socially and economically. 

About Buildher The problem: In Kenya, women are significantly disadvantaged both socially and economically. Over half the female population lives below the poverty line ($3.10/day), less than 50% of girls are educated beyond primary school level, and young women in urban areas are more likely to be unemployed than any other group. Meanwhile, Kenya has an alarming lack of skilled designers and construction professionals and booming demand for urban development, particularly housing. This high-potential sector is currently male-dominated, with women representing less than 3% of those it employs. By the end of this century, 40% of the global population will reside in Africa. By 2030, more than half of Africa's population will reside in cities. We are working to ensure that women actively contribute to and benefit from this urban development. Our solution: Buildher recognizes an opportunity in this problem. We designed and deliver an innovative technical training and employment program exclusively for low income earning women that produces semi-skilled artisans and places them with construction industry employers. Our model is designed by women, for women: It enables participants to earn as they learn, significantly increase their earnings, and secure a professional certification that creates opportunities for career growth. Our goal: Buildher will train and empower thousands of Kenyan women through construction. In the process, we will develop a replicable model for gender integration in our industry to deeply impact hundreds of thousands of women across the continent. Buildher equips disadvantaged women in Kenya with accredited construction skills leading to greater financial prosperity, changing male attitudes and promoting gender equality within the construction industry.

These small grants will build up our grant-making infrastructure and track record. Grant decisions will be made by a dedicated management committee, all with a strong network and expertise on how well-timed grant-making can safeguard the future.

Amongst the myriad global communities whose lives and livelihoods have already been affected, are 88 million vulnerable people in southern Africa that are, by social and economic circumstance, at greater risk of suffering from the implications of the virus.  At the heart of the responses to Coronavirus, we must care for those living at the margins of economic and political systems to follow the measures required to flatten the curve, curb the spread and begin the journey to healing. The Southern Africa Trust's work with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and social movements across 16 countries to support their immediate needs, while simultaneously mobilizing their voices to influence the response strategies that various governments are putting in place. We focus on  women in rural areas ,  ex-miners ,  informal and cross border traders ,  domestic workers ,  small scale farmers ,  migrant workers and refugees . Vulnerable communities urgently need fact-based guidelines, practical solutions, as well as linguistically and culturally contextualised information in order to ensure prevention, detection and protection from Coronavirus. Our work begins inside prison, in the last 5 years, with our friends and partners, our outreach programs in and out of prison have impacted 4000 women by providing them with dignity packs and attitudinal and behavioural change training. The dignity packs have provided the dignity, respect, and self-esteem the women need. We are bridging the gap between prison and the community and ensuring we avoid the gaping trench in-between while putting the formerly imprisoned woman at the core of the strategic framework, program design, development, and implementation with progressive touch points with her children, family, and community. Clean Start supports successful reintegration and transition for women through  employment training, psycho-social support, entrepreneurship, and vocational training, enabling them to find sustainable livelihoods post-release.  We are a bridge for women leaving prison over stigma, isolation, pain and outrage, abandonment, depression, illness, and lack of economic and educational opportunities. We amplify the stories of resilience, hope, and change for formerly imprisoned women to support policy change and prison reforms. We achieve this by raising the government's accountability towards formerly imprisoned women as a marginalized group.
