Dana Vihara exists to support the activities of Beth Upton’s American sangha. Our sangha holds that the dhamma is priceless, of incomparable and unquantifiable value. We have had the great fortune to receive these teachings freely. Out of gratitude to all the sangha who have preserved these teachings and given them freely through the generations as well as a deep commitment to the dhamma, we are working to build a resilient and sustainable dana culture to support dana-based retreats in the Americas. We exist to receive and house donations offered freely by those who share our resolve to make deep meditation practice accessible to our sangha. Donations are used to secure lodging, food, and other necessary conditions for meditation retreats in the Americas. In this way, we seek to offer the gift of dhamma to all those with the volition to practice, irrespective of financial contribution, so that students can honor the teachings in the proper way - through sincere practice. Your donation will support dedicated practitioners to deepen their dhamma and continue their journey on the path out of suffering.

CLC has been successful in helping orphans, poor and disadvantaged youth and children from human trafficking while providing quality education that opens their minds to morality and discipline. CLC also assists its students in finding proper and honorable employment. Buddhist International Relief NGO 'ThePromise' (Founder: Ven. Myojang) is often referred to as the 'Buddhist 119.' Its operational scope spans the entire globe. Since its establishment in 2008, ThePromise, a non-profit organization recognized by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) with special consultative status, has been dedicated to providing critical aid and support to communities worldwide affected by various disasters. The organization has aimed to be a representative relief entity for the Buddhist community, akin to the ‘Red Cross’ in the West and the ‘Red Crescent Society’ in the Islamic countries. To broaden its reach and appeal, it chose an English name with less religious connotation. 

Since its founding, International NGO ThePromise has responded to global disasters such as the 2010 Haiti earthquake, 2011 East Japan earthquake, 2015 Nepal earthquake, 2022 Ukraine conflict, and the 2023 Turkey earthquake. Domestically, it has aided in the 2017 Pohang earthquake, 2022 Donghae wildfires, and the 2023 Gangneung wildfire and Yecheon flood.

**Major Initiatives**

Our work encompasses a wide range of humanitarian and environmental initiatives:

- **Climate Crisis**: We introduced climate budgeting, support disaster response and climate adaptation for immigrant families, and develop educational tools for environmental sustainability. For example, we provided emergency relief through a local youth-led team during the Timor Leste floods and deployed the nation's first Disaster Welfare Assistance Team (DWAT) for five weeks to support shelters during the East Coast wildfires.
- **Mental Health** : We support global neighbors in crisis by providing psychological aid to disaster-affected individuals, helping them regain strength. Our International Disaster Psychological Support Team AEGIS, known for its global experience, operates extensively at disaster sites. Recognized by UNHCR, our "Family-based Disaster Response Board Game," developed with support from global gaming company, Electronic Arts (EA), enhances disaster response capabilities for migrant families in Korea.
- **Humanitarian Aid**: Conducting emergency relief operations for natural disasters and providing urgent food aid to communities affected by the Myanmar coup and the Ukraine conflict.

Since our humble beginnings, we have grown to be the national leader in immersive mindfulness education with our beloved teen retreats having been offered to 4,000+ alumni.

With a belief that justice and equity are at the center of youth wellbeing, our offerings also include specific programs for affinity groups such as BIPOC and LGBTQIA+. Programs aimed at more systemic impact include our internationally accredited Teacher Training program and custom programming in partnership with schools and youth-serving organizations across the country. Our programs seek to complement and amplify the impacts of in-school programs and to expand the value and capacity that youth-serving professionals have for sharing in-depth mindfulness experiences with youth.

At their core, the diverse community of Inward Bound teens and adult leaders seek to create healthier inner and outer worlds. They come from the edges of toxic dominant cultures with the belief that another way of living is not only possible, but a fundamental right. Our extensive network of 120+ staff, teachers, health coordinators, and mentors are experts in the fields of youth development, mental health, and education, and have lived experiences that deeply reflect the teens they serve. They exemplify authenticity, compassion, and respect, upholding a strong code of ethics. In fact, some of our leaders today were participants in the first teen retreats offered in 1989.

Perhaps our most distinctive capacity for success is our Collaborative Leadership (CL) System which emphasizes shared decision-making and robust feedback, and creates more pathways for community members, especially youth, parents, and partners, to have increased input and investment. This organizational structure, which has no Executive Director, is the result of our equity commitments and examinations of how power is distributed within our organization. It was researched and developed for three years with the consult of international leaders in the field before being fully launched in January 2020. At the core of the CL System are the full-time staff and five standing committees that include a 9-member Youth Advisory Committee and 6-member Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Committee. Need-based stipends are available to support committee member participation.
