Providing medical and psychological care for Bali's most vulnerable

The island of Bali, home to four and a half million people, is one of the world's most desired destinations. With its remarkable spiritual energy, generous hospitality, tropical gardens, swaying palms, balmy weather, white sandy beaches, and premier accommodations, Bali has become a favored international destination. This is the Bali that is known and loved.


However, Bali has a somewhat hidden side. This is not the Bali you imagine. Often overlooked and not visible to tourists, many locals are desperately poor, in poor health, and in need of help.


Despite the provincial government doing what it can, the social system is overwhelmed, and as a result, locals must turn elsewhere to find a helping hand. Privately funded non-profits such as SoleFamily Bali are essential in addressing the growing social needs of the local population. Eleven years ago, Robert Epstone and Sarah Chapman formed their outreach program as a privately funded non-profit to address those growing needs.



Solefamily Bali is changing the lives in Bali through the provision of medical and psychological care for the most vulnerable individuals; the provision of basic dried food staples and fresh produce; the facilitation of care and advocacy for children and adults; and offering a safe haven in a comfortable recovery center.





Many of the villages that SoleFamily Bali serves are in the remote corners of the island. As such, their always-at-the-ready, rapid-response teams provide care and emergency medical attention to the sick, the poor, and the destitute. When treatments are unavailable in Bali, they provide crucial access for children to receive complex cardiac treatment in Jakarta. Furthermore, their ten-bedroom care and recovery center provides a safe and comfortable haven in which to heal.


In 2023, the foundation rebranded from Soleman Indonesia to SoleFamily Bali, a name that more accurately reflects their work. To date, they treat and assist more than 800 families on the island. This work includes treatment and vital support for Bali's most physically vulnerable and mentally impaired residents.

FWI reduces the suffering of farmed fish by researching and executing evidence-based interventions in high-priority contexts.

The mission of Fish Welfare Initiative (FWI) is to reduce the suffering of farmed fish as much as possible. We do that specifically by researching and testing evidence-based welfare interventions, and then implementing them in high priority contexts. Our main implementation program right now focuses on collaborative farmer outreach in India to improve water quality and reduce stocking densities. As of this writing, this program currently works with about 100 farms (www.fwi.fish/farmers). Investigative journalism is at risk. Many news organizations have increasingly come to see it as a luxury. Today’s investigative reporters lack resources: Time and budget constraints are curbing the ability of journalists not specifically designated “investigative” to do this kind of reporting in addition to their regular beats. New models are, therefore, necessary to carry forward some of the great work of journalism in the public interest that is such an integral part of self-government, and thus an important bulwark of our democracy.

Gabriel, Caroline and Emmanuel, 3 of our students live with their widowed mother, Meleon, in this mud hut that has reached the point of collapse. Funding of $500 has been provided. We need to raise an additional $500-$1000 to build a new home with solar lighting and a water tank to store rain water off the roof. This will provide a clean, dry and safe environment with adequate lighting to do studies. It gets dark at 6:00 pm in Kenya year round.  The water tank will eliminate long treks to fetch water for cooking and drinking.

We are currently having a campaign to purchase "100" Days For Girls Kits with Reusable Washable Sanitary Pads to keep girls in school all month, every month. Period. Each kit costs $10. We purchase these kits from a Days For Girls Sewing Enterprise in Kenya. So besides keeping the girls in school purchasing these kits also provides income to women in Kenya who sew and put the kits together. Thank you!

*Clean, safe, dry and adequate living accommodations are essential for families to thrive. We provide solar power for homes where electricity is not available. Students achieve better results in school when basic home lighting is available in the evening hours so they can study and read. 

Money raised through fund raisers and direct individual donations go directly to No End to Love’s humanitarian and charitable purposes. Administration costs are self funded and supplemented with 5% from proceeds from our Savers Clothing Drives. We have no staff or rent to pay but there are always some expenses involved when running an organization.

In Asia, Europe, Brazil, India, Israel, and the U.S., GFI’s teams are mobilizing the international community to use markets and technology to replace harmful practices with ones that are better for the climate and biodiversity, for food security, and for global health.

GFI’s Focus
As a nonprofit, GFI is uniquely positioned to accelerate the transition to alternative proteins by focusing on three programmatic priorities:

-Cultivating a strong scientific ecosystem | GFI’s science and technology teams map out the most neglected areas that will allow alternative proteins to compete on taste and price. GFI meets these challenges by developing open-access research and resources, educating and connecting the next generation of scientists and entrepreneurs, and funding research that benefits alternative protein development across the sector. 

-Influencing policy and securing government funding | GFI’s policy teams ensure that alternative proteins are a part of the policy discussion around climate change mitigation and global health. In every region where GFI has a presence, teams advocate for government funding and incentives to transition to alternative proteins and are paving the way for the approval of novel proteins such as cultivated meat.

-Ensuring industry prioritizes alternative proteins | GFI’s corporate teams are creating a transformation of our global meat supply. GFI works to replicate past market transformations by showing companies of all sizes, from startups to multinational corporations, how alternatives to animal products can be profitable while meeting environmental, social, and governance goals.

Barnard College, located in Morningside Heights in Manhattan, was founded for women students in 1889 with the dream of **extending a top-tier education to those traditionally excluded from college**. Today, we offer women from all backgrounds a four-year education that combines the intimacy of a small liberal arts college with the expansiveness of its Ivy League partner, Columbia University. In the years since its founding, Barnard has adopted need-blind admissions and deliberately built programming to position our graduates as leaders in fields where women are traditionally underrepresented, particularly in STEM. 

At Barnard, **we believe that financial circumstances should never be a barrier when qualified students seek the transformative power of education**. For this reason, the College meets the full financial need of our student body, admitting increasingly diverse, selective classes of students, regardless of their financial background. More than one-third of all Barnard students receive some form of financial aid.

Contributions to Barnard support the College’s top priorities, which include scholarships and financial aid as described above, resources for first-generation and low-income students, student and faculty research, and student health and wellness.

An endowment protecting the Los Cedros cloud forest forever.

Held in the mists of the Ecuadorian Tropical Andes, a scientific station works with local communities to protect a cloud forest known as Los Cedros (“The Cedars”). The station encourages artists, educators, and researchers to connect with and learn from Los Cedros, whose walking palm trees and old growth lift racket-tail hummingbirds and critically endangered brown-headed spider monkeys into the clouds. Decades of interdependent artwork and scientific discovery from the station—including over 100 publications—factored into the 2021 [decision of Ecuador’s highest court](https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/dec/02/plan-to-mine-in-ecuador-forest-violate-rights-of-nature-court-rules-aoe) to ban extractive practices in the forest by upholding Los Cedros’ constitutional rights to exist and to thrive.

This ruling set a monumental precedent for worldwide Rights of Nature efforts. Yet mining companies continue to apply pressure to Los Cedros communities and Ecuadorian authorities—and if mining comes to pass in Los Cedros, it will devastate one of the most biodiverse and endemic forests in the world. Home to thousands of wildlife species, Los Cedros spans 6000 hectares of mostly primary forest habitat. There, the threatened spectacled bear builds a tree bed to feast on aguacatillo berries (tiny avocados), and the elusive jaguar has left her tracks on the banks of waterfalls. In the abundant green shadows, undiscovered fungi, insects, and orchids flourish. A glass frog hides his heartbeat under a leaf.

As one of the rare places where humans can still drink directly from cascading rivers, this refuge also protects numerous watersheds crucial to downstream communities. So, the Los Cedros Fund will prove that the station’s approach of sustainably partnering with the cloud forest and surrounding communities is best for Pachamama—all of Mother Earth, including humans—in the long term.

The Los Cedros Fund is growing an endowment for the cloud forest to be financially self-sufficient. Honoring all who’ve protected the forest for decades, the Los Cedros Fund aims to offer this new watershed of perennial support to the forest to keep artistic, educational, and scientific collaborations flowing.

Protecting the Amazon rainforest and our climate in solidarity with Indigenous peoples

Since 1996, Amazon Watch has defended the Amazon rainforest and our climate in solidarity with Indigenous peoples. Long-term, trusted partnerships with Indigenous peoples — the best stewards of the rainforest — are the foundation for Amazon Watch’s campaigns for climate justice, corporate accountability, and the permanent protection of the rainforest.

The Amazon is home to more than 500 distinct Indigenous peoples. As our planet’s largest tropical rainforest, it stabilizes our global climate and an immense amount of Earth’s biodiversity and flowing freshwater can be found there.

This vital ecosystem and the Indigenous peoples who have stewarded it for centuries face grave threats from deforestation, resource extraction, land grabs, and destructive development projects. The Amazon is facing a tipping point and won't be able to sustain itself as a rainforest if we remain on our current path of destruction.

To move to a turning point, Amazon Watch is advancing the Indigenous-led proposal to permanently protect 80% of the Amazon by securing Indigenous rights to their ancestral territories, challenging the major drivers of rainforest destruction, and mobilizing solidarity funds directly to Indigenous Earth Defenders throughout the Amazon Basin. Their work combines on-the-ground legal, advocacy, and communications expertise and long-term trusted partnerships with Indigenous peoples and organizations.

🌳Amazon Watch’s Amazon Defenders Fund (ADF) provides direct solidarity funding to Amazonian peoples and organizations free of bureaucratic barriers. The ADF supports Indigenous-led initiatives including community organizing, women’s leadership, communal economies, protection of Earth Defenders at risk for resisting destructive development, and crisis response including to wildfires and oil spills. EJI is committed to ending mass incarceration in the US and challenging racial and economic injustice.

Founded in 1989 by Bryan Stevenson, a widely acclaimed public interest lawyer and bestselling author of Just Mercy, EJI is a private, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides legal representation to people who have been illegally convicted, unfairly sentenced, or abused in state jails and prisons. We challenge the death penalty and excessive punishment and we provide re-entry assistance to formerly incarcerated people.

EJI works with communities that have been marginalized by poverty and discouraged by unequal treatment. We are committed to changing the narrative about race in America. EJI produces groundbreaking reports, an award-winning wall calendar, and short films that explore our nation’s history of racial injustice, and we recently launched an ambitious national effort to create new spaces, markers, and memorials that address the legacy of slavery, lynching, and racial segregation, which shapes many issues today.

EJI provides research and recommendations to assist advocates and policymakers in the critically important work of criminal justice reform. We publish reports, discussion guides, and other educational materials, and our staff conduct educational tours and presentations for thousands of students, teachers, faith leaders, professional associations, community groups, and international visitors every year.

We prevent suffering and deaths of Montenegro's cats through high-volume spay-neuter. Based in Seattle, WA, nonprofit since 2019.

Kotor Kitties volunteers focus passionately on solving the overpopulation problems that cause so much suffering and death for community cats in Montenegro through high-volume spay-neuter surgeries.  

Montenegro is a tiny Balkan country, very poor and under-resourced for animals care.  We provide free spay-neuter surgeries, contracting with local vets at deeply discounted prices.

High-volume spay and neuter is the most cost-effective way to help the most cats in an area.  The individual animals benefit from improved health (and, in Montenegro, adoptability) while the overall population starts to come down once high enough levels of sterilization are reached.

We provide a limited amount of other medical care for cats along with the surgery--things like tail and leg amputations, removal of damaged eyes, hernia repair and dental extractions that greatly effect the cat's enjoyment of life at a relatively small cost.

Kotor Kitties is NOT a rescue; we have no shelter.  Those are not cost-effective ways to help, nor do we (or the country) have the capacity to handle the volume of friendly, adoptable animal who live on the streets.  We gladly provide information on best practices to individuals or groups who want to run their own rescues, or adopt an animal they've connected with.

Women of Color Unite (WOCU) is a social action non-profit organization focusing on fair access, fair treatment and fair pay for women of color in all aspects of the entertainment and media industries.  This organization works towards these goals by creating self-sustaining long-term programs for:  Facilitating fair hiring practices; Fostering a more inclusive and diverse workplace environment; Promoting access for excluded content creators; Expanding audiences represented by those excluded content creators; Raise funds for WOCU to produce their own content; Hold events, seminars, workshops, panels and summits to get more women of color hired, fund their projects and distribute their content; Work with additional organizations to develop analytics of under-represented marginalized groups to better identify their needs; and, Help companies incubate talent and integrate them into their work force.
