**HISTORY:** For decades, the Lower East Side of NYC had multiple boys’ clubs, but none for girls. In 1996, LESGC’s founders launched a program just for girls in the community. Although lacking a facility, LESGC quickly became a home–enabling members to collaborate and establish meaningful, healthy relationships. After “making it work” in borrowed spaces, our members and community advocated to acquire the plot of land where LESGC now stands. Our 35,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility proves that imagination inspires change. 

Today, we are globally recognized for our unique program model. Over 450 youth participate in our innovative programs annually—from developing video games in our planetarium and harvesting bok choy on our Rooftop Farm to citizen journalism, sustainability, and civic engagement—all through a lens of activism. We know that you can only serve the whole child by addressing the realities of the community in which they reside. Moonshot Initiative, formerly known as Women’s Weekend Film Challenge, is a nonprofit that promotes gender equity by creating opportunities for women and non-binary people to bring their leadership, talents, and stories to the forefront of the film and television industry. Full STEAM Forward is an STEAM enrichment program for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade girls of color from underserved communities

A lack of access to high-quality STEAM enrichment programs has prevented many young women of color from acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to obtain higher-paying careers in STEM fields.  If we want to close the equity gap in STEM, young girls of color must have access to programs designed to increase science knowledge, build self-esteem and generate interest in STEM careers.  

We are changing the equation by offering:

- Three years of free, high-quality afterschool STEAM programming
- Synchronous weekly 1.5 hour classes delivered both in-person and on-line
- Weekly hands on projects designed to encourage intellectual curiosity and teach the foundations of science and technology
- Access to women of color in STEM fields to serve as role models
- An Alumni program, involving the family, to ensure continued awareness of STEM Opportunities.

Our quantitative and qualitative results demonstrate the impact we are having.  Our girls:

- Have increased positive attitudes towards science
- Have a better developed understanding of science
- Academically outperform their peers in science
- Love the program!

The Legally BLK Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting aspiring Black women attorneys and increasing the representation of Black women in law. Roughly only 2% of attorneys in the U.S. are Black women. While this percentage is shockingly low, it is reflective of limited resources and the additional hardships Black women face as they attempt to enter the legal industry.

By providing financial assistance, mentorship, and resources, the Legally BLK Fund seeks to redefine the future of the legal profession by reducing some of the barriers to entry for Black women. Our mission is to provide Black women with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to achieve their legal aspirations. Legally BLK Fund’s vision is that Black women have the opportunity to succeed in the law school application process and beyond. The organization provides annual scholarships to pre-law students and recently launched an in-person institute for young women of color in NYC public schools interested in learning more about the legal profession.

YWCA Brooklyn is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. 

Founded in 1888, YWCA Brooklyn has been a champion for racial justice and gender equity for over 130 years as the first YWCA in the country to racially integrate in 1943 and a leader in both the civil rights and women’s rights movements. 

In 2009, we declined offers from developers seeking to convert our historic building in rapidly gentrifying Downtown Brooklyn to luxury housing and instead reinvested our real estate in service of our mission. Today, our work is primarily focused on the economic empowerment of women and girls of color whose paths to prosperity have been limited due to systemic racism and gender bias, ensuring they can live independent, self-determined lives, and our building is now home to: 

- Over 300 women impacted by gender-based violence, homelessness and poverty who live in our permanent affordable housing units and have access to onsite trauma-informed supportive services and therapeutic programming to ensure they remain stably housed without a return to an abusive relationship or homelessness; 
- Our year-round, long-term, holistic *YW Brooklyn LEAD* college access and leadership program that advances the educational outcomes and economic mobility for girls of color from poverty-impacted communities to develop them into the next generation of leaders in communities of color; and 
- Our Social Justice Community Center, the last surviving community hub in Downtown Brooklyn, which provides office, event and program space for other grassroots nonprofits, helping them to broaden their scope and reach,.

SAYA’s mission is to foster a strong sense of belonging in youth and provide them with tools to thrive.

South Asian Youth Action (SAYA) aims to equip underserved New York City students with the tools necessary to reduce socio-economic disparities - empowering them academically, professionally, and personally. Through our innovative, holistic approach, we work toward education equity by providing opportunities and resources, ensuring youth become engaged community members.

Established in 1996, SAYA is a 501(c)3 youth development organization implementing valuable life skills and impactful programming to under-resourced youth. Today, we serve over 4,000 youth at 10 schools - in addition to our Elmhurst-based community center. The majority of our participants are first- and second-generation immigrant youth of color who face numerous barriers that hinder their chances of being academically and socially successful, graduating high school, attending college, and entry into jobs that match their skill sets. Our culturally responsive programming - centered on the pillars of leadership, academic support, and enrichment - propels the social and emotional growth of our young people and drives education and economic equity.

As one of the first South Asian organizations in the United States, we play a critical role in the positive development of young people from immigrant communities. Over the course of our history, SAYA has dismantled the “model minority” myth and paved the way for greater attention and investments in social services for the South Asian population. Moreover, as the communities we serve grow more diverse, our commitment to inclusivity and transformational cross-racial solidarity remains steadfast.

Bottomless Closet is a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded in 1999 with the mission to empower disadvantaged New York City women to enter the workforce and achieve success. Through a “women-helping-women” model, the vision of our founders was that each woman would be equipped with the skills and tools she needed to be successful at her job interview and develop in her career. 

Twenty-five years on from our founding, we have supported almost 50,000 New York City women on their journeys out of poverty. Today, we have the broadest range of programs in our history, including career coaching, resume preparation, professional outfitting and a broad workshop curriculum focused on financial and digital literacy, professional development and more.

We continue to evolve our services to reflect changes in the job market, the hiring process and the needs of our clients and are committed to empowering more women in need in New York City to be able to provide for themselves and their families.

[IGNITE ](https://www.ignitenational.org) is a non-partisan movement of young women and gender expansive youth who are ready and eager to become the next generation of civic and political leaders. IGNITE is a national leader in young women’s civic leadership development and the only organization in the political space that explicitly brings young women who have traditionally been left out of the American democratic process into political power, by giving them the tools, skills, resources, and networks to make their voices heard.

Women, especially BIPOC women and women with disabilities, are dramatically under-represented among the 520,000 office holders nationally, 96% of them local. IGNITE increases the share of women in public leadership: as electeds, appointees, and in supporting positions that push up to appointed and elected roles. IGNITE creates entry points and support for next-gen women to advance in political leadership: from civic and political engagement to community leadership and beyond.

Locally, IGNITE organizes high school and college-aged women to become civically and politically active. Statewide, we train them to advocate on policy impacting women and families. Nationally, we shift culture to propel them into civic and political influence. IGNITE introduces young women to politics before adulthood; provides them with the tools, resources, and training to lead; and gives them a platform, uplifting their voices so the public values their perspectives, experiences, and expertise. These young women become the local commissioners, candidates, and policymakers shifting cities, counties, their states, and our nation to an equitable civic and political arena.

Programs:

Dr. Anne Moses Fellows – Politically ambitious college-aged women hone their political organizing abilities over 18-months by launching, organizing, and running IGNITE college programming efforts. Fellows host events on local policies and civic education; build college chapters; train chapter members to network with local stakeholders and organizations; and support our high school clubs.

IGNITE the Vote – Voting knowledge is the first step toward civic engagement. Participants learn voting basics (how elections happen, why they’re important, how to use a ballot) and issues/measures related to women and families. They register and activate peers on campus; hold candidate meet-and-greets and ballot parties; and educate and engage others on campus who don’t understand how politics impacts their lives.

Legislative Advocacy – Young women train on what legislation is, the policy lifecycle, and how to influence local, state, and national legislation. They practice amplifying their voices on local gender justice issues; then convene at the city and state level. IGNITE the Capitol brings them to their legislative seat to meet policymakers and discuss issues they identify as important.

Training – Comprehensive training teaches young women the skills and strategies to seek and win key leadership roles including seats and appointments on boards and commissions; public office; policy-making internships and positions; campaign staffer, community organizer, and voter activation bootcamps; and more.

Thought Leadership - We train young women to see themselves as leaders, so the public values their knowledge and insights. We center their voices, teaching them to write for and speak in interviews and op-eds with local and national media. They learn to elevate the political ideas they see as important and develop political and cultural power.

IGNITE believes that in order to remove barriers for young women to reach elected office we must support policies promoting equity, economic empowerment, safety, and women’s well-being. We need more diverse representation in leadership and governance that accurately represents the USA's demographics.

We train women such as:

- Former IGNITE Raleigh-Durham Fellow Mary Black, who was appointed to the Environmental Advisory Board in Raleigh, NC in 2020, and to City Council in 2022 as the youngest member ever to serve.
- IGNITE alumna Christina Haswood, who at age 25 is the youngest Native American ever elected to Kansas’s State Legislature. When Haswood first learned about IGNITE she had never imagined holding political office.
- The 60+ member strong IGNITE UCLA chapter, which gained statewide recognition and coverage in the Los Angeles Times for their successful efforts to change policy at the UC Regents and CA state legislature, increasing students’ access to rape crisis kits and confidential sexual assault services on campuses statewide.  

IGNITE participants are 3x more likely to vote, 5x more likely to advocate, and 28% more likely to engage in political action vs. their peers. Elections occur daily across our country; IGNITE uplifts participants’ voices and organizing power to maximize their impact, mobilizing communities on the issues that affect them. As more young women become politically active and engaged, they bring their skills to local campaigns and communities wherever life takes them, championing systemic change toward equity nationwide.

Immigrant women are the beating heart of New York City, making up almost half of the city’s three million immigrants and giving birth to a majority of the children each year. Yet, the reality is stark. Four out of ten immigrant women educated outside of the United States remain unemployed, and countless more are underemployed in low-wage, temporary jobs that offer no pathway to self-reliance or independence.

The barriers immigrant women face when entering the workforce range from limited English proficiency, unfamiliarity with the U.S job market, and lack of professional networks to credential transfer difficulties and the responsibilities as primary caregivers. In addition, systemic barriers such as employer norms and practices often put immigrant women job seekers at a disadvantage due to their lack of US education, work experience, and connections.

Beyond walking, GirlTrek’s active members support local and national policy to increase physical activity through walking, improve access to safe places to walk, protect and reclaim green spaces, and improve the walkability and built environments of 50 high-need communities across the United States.

After experiencing her own childbirth complication, Christy learned that hundreds of thousands of women were dying every year because they do not have access to the maternity care that they need. She then dedicated her work to understanding the challenges of and opportunities for improving access to maternity care around the world.

Room to Read is a leader in gender education around the globe. With nearly 25 years of experience, Room to Reach has reached more than 325,000 girls in 10 countries through its impactful Girls’ Education Program, which is one of the world’s longest and most comprehensive programs dedicated to girls’ education and gender equality.  

Globally, 97% of girls benefiting from Room to Read's Girls’ Education Program successfully advance to the next grade level, and 96% graduate secondary school. Five years after the program, 79% of graduates are either employed or enrolled in higher education.

Room to Read’s tried-and-true program builds girls’ skills while helping entire communities understand and support gender equality education. By providing life skills lessons, one-on-one and group mentoring, family and community engagement, inspiring multimedia, and more for the girls who need it the most, Room to Read is contributing to meaningful generational change.  

By the end of 2027, we aim to:

digitalundivided, founded in 2012, is a leading nonprofit organization focused on disrupting systemic inequities in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Through the use of data, innovative programs, intentional networks, and strategic advocacy, it builds equitable pathways to women founders, particularly for women of color, and addresses long-standing barriers to success in entrepreneurship.

One of the organization’s most influential contributions has been its research, notably the groundbreaking ProjectDiane report, which was the first to highlight the state of Black and Latina women founders. This historic research continues to drive digitalundivided’s expanded efforts, which have sparked global conversations on inclusion and equity in entrepreneurship.

Mary's Place believes that no one's child should sleep outside. We provide safe, inclusive shelter and services that support women, children, and families on their journey out of homelessness.

Since 1999, Mary’s Place has helped hundreds of women and families move out of homelessness into more stable situations. We provide safe, inclusive shelter and services that support women, children and families on their journey out of homelessness. Across nine emergency family shelters in King County, we keep struggling families together, inside, and safe when they have no place else to go, providing shelter, services, resources, community, and hope.  

Meals, showers, and laundry facilities–children are connected with schools. In the evening, families in shelter eat dinner, do homework, socialize, and prepare for the week ahead. Each day, Housing Specialists work with families to address barriers and empower parents to build family stability, secure housing, and prepare for employment. Kids do homework, participate in fun and enriching activities, and go on outings and adventures in Kids Club. 

Children with life threatening illnesses should not be living in cars and tents awaiting chemo or dialysis. Families who have lost everything in the struggle to get their child well have a place to receive care and support in shelter at Mary's Place Popsicle Place shelter program.

Still, capacity is limited and hundreds of families are outside each night in cars and tents. Mary’s Place Diversion program and team of mobile outreach specialists work with unsheltered families where they are, to address barriers and help move them quickly into stable housing, bypassing a shelter stay.

The women’s drop-in Day Center in downtown Seattle provides meals, showers, laundry, access to resources, safety and  relationship to over a hundred women each day.

The support of the community keeps our doors open. The path out of homelessness can be long and challenging. Each person that finds housing is ultimately responsible for his or her accomplishment, but often a community of support, education, and advocacy has helped along the way.

UN Women estimates that at the current rate of progress it will take **286 years** for the world to achieve gender equality. This is unacceptable. So, for the past 18 months, we have been heads down designing an intentionally different kind of organization that will meaningfully accelerate this pace.

We address the biggest impediments to achieving gender equality:

- **A profound scarcity of funding and investment for women and girls:** Our **Reimagining Resources** work by shifting mindsets and turning theory into action through community, storytelling, and a fund dedicated to redistributing power and resources to those closest to the challenges and solutions. 

- **Gender is treated as an afterthought and current solutions tend to address issues in isolation:** Our **Integrated Solutions** team will work with governments, corporations, non-profits, and leaders to ensure the design of programs, policies, and teams have gender equality at their core. 

- **Most change is incremental:** Our **Big Ideas** team tackles systemic challenges and prototypes just and equitable solutions. Early challenges have included how to transform inner city public spaces, and reconceiving the commercial artist experience. While the challenges are different, the commitment is always the same: to redefine risk, increase return and accelerate the pace of change.

MAD delivers a 18-year-long intervention to Children in Need of Care & Protection (CNCP) in India that has the proven capability to enable them to break the cycle of poverty in a single generation. MAD has pioneered a community-powered social protection system that mobilises the community to provide high-touch and highly scalable, age-appropriate progression mentoring.


**History:** Started in 2006 in 1 city with 70 volunteers & 120 beneficiaries, today, Make A Difference (MAD) is a network of over 2,000 volunteers mentoring 3200 children & youth across 18 cities, annually.

Over the last 18 years, we’ve mobilised over 20,000 volunteers who have played their part in helping India’s most vulnerable children succeed academically, socially, and professionally.

 **Vision:** Children born into intergenerational poverty are able to break the cycle in a single generation.

**Mission:** Empower communities to take radical responsibility for their most vulnerable children and ensure they get the care & support needed to break the cycle of poverty permanently in a single-generation



**Goal:**

Our goal is to eradicate poverty in our lifetime. We achieve this by building a nationwide network of empowered communities that act as safety nets and springboards for children in need of care and protection. 

Through our proven **Progression Mentoring Program**, communities can provide step-by-step guidance, empowering children to cross the life-changing **empowerment threshold of $360 (INR. 30,000) per month** and leave poverty behind, permanently.

 

**Activities:**

[Progression Mentoring](https://coda.io/d/_dyxrQBYH4VG/_sutVO) is MAD’s award-winning **18-year-long high-touch intervention** model for children born into intergenerational poverty. It is a **community-powered, volunteer-driven program** for age-appropriate growth & development that enables a group of young people in the community to self organise to provide the required care, skill building and resource to the most vulnerable children in the community.

**One-on-one mentoring** by young individuals, guiding children through critical life stages, has the highest success rate in healing from **ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences)** and bridging the gap left by struggling parents.

 It’s also the fastest way for India’s vulnerable children to break free from poverty permanently. While it typically takes **7 generations** for a family to escape poverty in India, with personalised mentoring, it can be achieved in just **one generation.**



**Program Delivery:**

MAD delivers Progression Mentoring through a **Community Organising model,** empowering young leaders to mobilize community members into active citizens. Community Organisers do this by forming chapters of 200 volunteers and children. Each chapter provides weekly mentoring to 200 vulnerable children from the **age of 10 to 28 at no cost to the child.**

 Our **service-based leadership development curriculum**, led by Community Organisers (CO), guides chapter leaders in sourcing, recruiting, onboarding, managing, and retaining mentors.

The Caring Center Inc dba True Care Women’s Resource Center is a Christian, life-affirming service organization providing emotional, spiritual and material support to women and families experiencing unplanned pregnancies.  All of our services are free of charge. 

The Center seeks to empower women to fully explore all of their choices—abortion, adoption and parenting.  Our Center is unique in that we are truly pro-woman—we provide medically accurate education and information on all options and do not stand to gain financially from any choice she makes.  

The Center is open Tuesday (2:30 pm-7:30 pm), Wednesday (1:00pm-6:30pm), Thursday (10am-5pm) and Friday (10am-1:00pm).  A laboratory quality pregnancy test is administered by our medical staff.  Women who test positive are offered a free ultrasound performed by a registered nurse trained in limited obstetrical ultrasound.  Those who have a positive test and meet certain other criteria are invited to participate in our long-term patient care program, Baby and Me.  An average of 10 young women each month receive mentoring, material resources and the practical skills they need to parent or to make an adoption plan for their children through our Baby and Me Program.   

True Care Women’s Resource Center collaborates with many other agencies in town and is able to refer our patients for medical, financial and spiritual help.  Adoption is presented in a caring, non-pressured atmosphere.   We offer lay counseling for pregnancy-related issues and for women suffering the effects of abortion, known as post-abortion syndrome.  

Since our opening in 1987, more than 11,999 women and families have walked through our doors.  More than 2,481 unborn lives have been saved from abortion through the work God has done at True Care since 2008.  (2008 was the year we purchased a database capable of tracking the number of lives saved.)
