To promote excellence within an all-round education, to prepare boys to play a constructive role as compassionate, thinking individuals in society.

SACS is the oldest high school in South Africa, founded in September 1829. It is arguably the most magnificent setting at the foot of Table Mountain and Devils peak. The school prides itself on the balanced education it provides, the world-class facilities on offer, the fact that SACS men strive for excellence in all spheres of school life and that it places a strong emphasis on high moral values.

Far from resting contentedly on its 186 year-old record of growth and excellence, SACS in the 1980s and early 90s, led the Open Schools' Movement, making it possible, without the formal sanction of the Nationalist Government, for the integration of South African schools. Boys 'of colour,' Muslim and Christian, had been enrolled at SACS throughout the 19th century but, segregated for 85 odd years by the Cape School Board's Act of 1905 and the subsequent blight of apartheid, the school had the unusual satisfaction of re-opening its doors in 1992 to boys of all races. One of only four schools world-wide privileged enough to possess its own Rhodes Scholarship, SACS has attracted to itself pupils possessing the calibre, academically, culturally and in the sporting sphere to qualify for consideration for this, 'our greatest prize.'

A record of growth and excellence.

SACS Ithuba Trust

‘Ithuba’ is the isiXhosa word for Opportunity and the SACS Ithuba Trust has been established as a vehicle to raise money to provide deserving young men an opportunity to attend SACS who would not otherwise have been able to do so. Its sole purpose is to provide bursaries and financial assistance to boys without the financial means to do so, thereby enhancing and upholding the dignity of pupils enrolled at SACS whose families find themselves in marginalised or financially disadvantaged positions. The Trust is governed by a group of independent trustees and the administration is currently well managed by Sentinel International Trust. There are currently 22 boys being supported under the umbrella of the Ithuba Trust and we are actively trying to grow this. The Ithuba Trust assists boys of all ages attending SACS. The selection process is driven by the SACS Junior and High schools. It is the intention of the trustees to build an endowment that can provide support to SACS students on a perpetual basis, without denuding the capital base of the trust. In order to make a meaningful difference, we would like to raise and maintain a fund of US$500,000. For more information contact Kate Maurel on maurelk@sacollege.org.za

SACS Endowment Trust

The SACS Endowment Trust was established in 2021 as an independent and professional entity to efficiently receive donations and create a sustainable long-term funding platform for the ongoing development of SACS. By supporting the Endowment Trust you will assist us in building the most impactful school for South Africa, together. The Trust has independent trustees, expert administrators, and representation from both the High School and Junior School's governing bodies. It works closely with the Headmasters of SACS Junior and SACS High for the promotion and furtherance of each school's development goals and needs. SACS turns 200 in 2029 and the success of the Endowment Trust and the future of our school will be largely dependent on our ability to come together as a community to support 'SACS 200', our bicentennial anniversary. A strong endowment will ensure that our high standards can be maintained and improved so that SACS remains competitive and provides an ongoing example of what is possible in education in South Africa.
