Founded in 1996, The San Francisco School is a Preschool through Eighth Grade independent, coeducational day school. The School is an established, vibrant, and inclusive educational community with a diverse enrollment of up to 285 students, an experienced and dedicated faculty and administrative staff, and supportive involved families. The Preschool program is inspired by the philosophy of Maria Montessori. The Elementary and Middle School programs reflect the ideals of a progressive and student-centered approach.

Suitably characterized by a parent as “an urban school with a village atmosphere,” the School aims to embrace the Bay Area’s ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity. Our approach to education encourages children to develop strong academic and social-emotional skills, self-reliance, creativity, and a sense of social justice. The School is respected for our strong academics, vibrant community, personal attention to students, and dynamic arts and athletics programs. Our students graduate academically prepared, inquisitive, compassionate, and eager for the challenges ahead.
