Stray Animal Foundation of India is a registered 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization in the USA and a registered NGO in India under the name ‘Breath’. Founded in 2020 by Ujwala Chintala, SAFI has been unwavering in its commitment to the advocacy and welfare of stray animals across India.
In India, the field of animal welfare is just beginning to take shape. As one of the pioneering organizations in this sector, we face the dual challenge of addressing immediate needs while building a sustainable foundation for long-term impact.
India’s animal welfare system struggles with a lack of personnel and infrastructure to help suffering stray animals. Recognizing the challenges stray animals face, Ujwala Chintala initiated SAFI to create a sustainable and compassionate environment for these beings. Since its inception, SAFI has grown in scope and impact, reaching significant milestones in animal care and community engagement.
