PEN has given science and math teachers in Africa the chance to excite their students with their teaching techniques. 
Generally in Africa, many students are afraid of these subjects in particular because the studies prove difficult and a lot of them struggle to pick up basic concepts. 
The teaching methods used by PEN make learning fun and interesting and the students enjoy their studies much more than using the old traditional methods. 
PEN is doing an awesome job! Support them if you can. They need all the help they can get. 

PEN’s thoughtful approach to invigorating STEM education is both inspiring and has such great potential. Exciting to think about the many students whose lives have been and will be transformed by PEN! We are honored to support PEN.

As a science teacher in the US, I saw how hands-on lessons engaged and excited students. African students benefit from the training PEN provides to their science teachers. Today's students, when grown, will use science to address Africa's challenges.

I've worked In Ghanaian schools and having met Heather Beam, am confident that the training and manuals produced by PEN will have a very positive effect on students' learning. 

PEN is enabling every African child to learn by doing. 

In the Upper East Region of Ghana, there was a young boy named Issifu, living in a humble home – his dad was a mechanic and his mom sold goods in the market. 

As he went through elementary school, one of his least favorite subjects was math. One year, his grade in that class was 20%. He dreamed of being a doctor, but with grades like that, it wasn't going to happen. Then in his last year of junior high school, he had a math teacher who used a very different approach in class - he used activities, he made it interesting....even fun! That point marked a 180 degree turn in Issifu's life. He began loving the subject, excelling in it, reaching the top of his class across all the subjects, and today he is studying computer engineering at one of the best universities in Ghana.  

Issifu's story is why we are here.

To put the PEN hands-on STEM Manual in the hands of every teacher working in underprivileged schools in Africa. We aim to distribute 1,800 sets of manuals this year.  Each set contains one copy of both the Lower Primary and Upper Primary manuals, covering ALL topics in the primary school science curriculum.

Donate manuals to support hands-on STEM education in Ghana

We have survived COVID… more than that, leveraging PEN online training made it possible to reach many more teachers! Because of support from you and others committed to STEM education, more than 6,000 teachers across Ghana and now Rwanda have been trained. Celebrating our students' success!  Every single one of the students  at Novastar Academy, a low-cost private school in Kasoa near Accra, scored the highest available grade on their national science exam.  The key to success?  Each of their teachers has been trained by PEN. With growth comes new challenges: We need a safe and reliable vehicle… Our 20-year-old Hyundai Accent served us faithfully—but in recent months it is costing us more in repair bills than the vehicle is worth. It's costly and inefficient to rely on tro-tros (public vans) and Ubers.  A safe and reliable company vehicle will enable us to: 
 Be more efficient with our financial and human resources.  
 Safely convey facilitators and materials to the training grounds. 
 Effectively conduct field visits to the schools, where we provide one-on-one coaching to teachers in between our training sessions. 
 Conduct more in-person meetings with strategic partners.  
 Travel to the remote areas of Ghana and spread the impact we're achieving in Ghana to all 16 Regions.  
 Goal: Purchase a mid-size SUV with a 4-wheel drive to handle the rough, dirt roads in rural areas.  Cost: $47,000. Your gift towards the new vehicle helps us move forward, expanding our reach. We call it DUMSOR and it's frustrating! Regular power outages can happen every week! Suddenly a Zoom teaching session is blacked out. Our team is stalled in basic research, course development, and administration, stymied by uncertain power. We are forced to postpone meetings and end our studio recording sessions. STEM education changes the future for African kids. Teachers are excited to do hands-on science using methods taught by PEN – they are amazed at how it engages their students. More than 6,000 teachers in Ghana and Rwanda have been trained – and more and more regions are requesting training. You are a part of that growth and it's transforming children's lives!  A backup generator would help us:   
 Utilize working hours unabated 
 Attend all scheduled meetings, within our possible control 
 Offer our online teacher training without delays and instabilities 
 Record instructional videos in the PEN Studio without unnecessarily starting over 
 Ensure continuous availability of the PEN Resource Center for visiting students 
 Better ensure achieving stated timelines for our project deliverables
