At Project Open Hand we believe in the healing power of nutrition. Medically tailored nutrition is essential in addressing illness, supporting aging with dignity, and reducing social disparities. Our nutrition interventions improve and affirm the health and well-being of San Francisco Bay Area residents.

Our vision is for a healthy California for the sick and vulnerable through nutrition.

Founded in 1985, Project Open Hand is a nonprofit organization that provides meals with love to critically ill neighbors and seniors. Our food is like medicine, helping clients recover from illness, get stronger, and lead healthier lives.

Every day, we prepare 2,500 nutritious meals and provide 200 bags of healthy groceries to help sustain our clients as they battle serious illnesses, isolation, or the health challenges of aging. We serve San Francisco, Oakland and greater Bay Area, engaging more than 125 volunteers daily to nourish our community.

POH provides critical, nutritious meals to those living with critical illnesses, HIV/AIDS and seniors in San Francisco and Alameda Counties - which is an even more serious need during the ongoing pandemic.
