Founded in 2016, Marshmallow Minds is a 501(c)(3) public benefit nonprofit organization and we exist to provide access to the knowledge and skills necessary for STEAM-enabled careers, especially in under-resourced schools and communities.
Since 2016, we have delivered high-quality, engaging, and experiential STEAM education programs to children in grades K-8 that meet 21st-century learning standards and nurture lifelong curiosity, creativity, and collaborative spirit, paving the way for success in their future.
Through a curriculum that incorporates design-based thinking methodologies and STEAM experiential education, we empower students to solve real-world problems. The interdisciplinary projects challenge students to develop novel solutions for relevant, age-appropriate, and content-rich problems, and students learn the design process as a means for elevating how they think, learn, talk, and do in the classroom.
With respect to student experience and outcomes, Marshmallow Minds promotes a wide range of social, emotional, and academic skills and outcomes, including a growth mindset, problem-solving skills, collaboration, empathy, and creative confidence, along with greater content knowledge in science, mathematics, technology, arts, and design. Recently, Marshmallow Minds has also begun to focus on English Language Development (ELD) standards, supporting students in developing all domains of language. Marshmallow Minds has a vision of transforming classroom teaching and school cultures by modeling the design thinking process as a way for students to access multiple types of content while also developing core social and emotional competencies.
