In Uganda, the challenges facing young girls in education have reached critical levels. During the pandemic, Uganda’s teenage pregnancy rate soared, with roughly 32,000 cases reported per month—a figure five times higher than the nation’s COVID-19 infection rate (Uganda Government National Campaign, 2021). This crisis has left countless girls vulnerable, jeopardizing their education and future potential. Post-COVID-19, the urgent need for intervention to keep girls in school and thriving is more evident than ever.

Our Response
At JMERC, we believe every girl deserves a chance to learn, grow, and thrive. To achieve this, we’ve designed a comprehensive school-wide ecosystem program that:

• Amplifies girls’ socio-emotional and leadership skills, helping them build self-awareness, resilience, and confidence to achieve their goals.
• Empowers teachers and school leaders to create safe, supportive, and inclusive classrooms and schools through tailored training and mentorship.
• Engages families and communities to foster a supportive environment that prioritizes girls’ education and well-being.

Our Impact So Far

Trained over 5,000 adolescent girls in critical socio-emotional skills, equipping them to make informed decisions and lead positive change.

Supported 200+ teachers with training in creating learner-centred and gender-responsive classrooms.

Fostered collaboration with school leaders to strengthen systems that support girls’ learning and development.
