The mission of Fish Welfare Initiative (FWI) is to reduce the suffering of farmed fish as much as possible. We do that specifically by researching and testing evidence-based welfare interventions, and then implementing them in high priority contexts. Our main implementation program right now focuses on collaborative farmer outreach in India to improve water quality and reduce stocking densities. As of this writing, this program currently works with about 100 farms (www.fwi.fish/farmers). FWI also invests significantly in research to identify and test more promising welfare improvements (www.fwi.fish/post/rnd-plans-2024).

Thanks to the support of all those who have donated, as of this writing FWI estimates that we have improved the lives of about 1.5M fish. You can learn more about our impact and how we came up with these numbers at www.fwi.fish/impact.

Improve the welfare of farmed fish in India

Hello! FWI currently works with farmers, corporations, and the government in India to transition aquaculture over to higher welfare methods. In particular, we focus on improving water quality and reducing stocking densities. Note that because 1) our work is still in its early stages, and 2) we're still figuring out how best to improve fish welfare for species in India, we believe that our work should currently be thought of as a high risk/high reward donation opportunity. To learn more about our work, check out: www.fwi.fish/donate www.fwi.fish/impact www.fwi.fish/ara Thank you for helping us build a better world for all sentient life!

This seems to be a high scale and very neglected area.

They don't have cuddly faces, but if they can suffer, which it appears they can, then we should probably care more about reducing their pain.

Fishes are huge numbers, and India promise high effectiveness.
