Care in Action has worked in Ukraine to respond to the needs of children living in care and in poverty since 1998, and in Malawi since 2004, offering both aid and education to see previously disadvantaged children grow up to succeed in life.
When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 our team in Lviv responded quickly to help refugees escaping violent military conflict. We are providing children and families with shelter, food, medicine and more. We are reducing trauma for children and supporting education in these difficult times. Children in Ukraine were already affected by poverty before the war, resulting in one of the highest rates of institutional care in the world. Sadly, only 25% of orphanage graduates have stable employment. In Malawi only 35% of children will enroll in Secondary School. But we can help them beat the odds and succeed in life. We support children's welfare and education through Sponsorship, mentoring and tutoring, along with activities and camps to develop their skills and career opportunities. This brings amazing changes, where children who have grown up in care or poverty complete their education and go on to find decent work. These programmes continue and complement our shelter and aid for refugees. Because a safe family is so important, we actively support foster parents with training, expert advice and support groups, while working in partnership to improve care standards across Ukraine. In war time we also provide food and transport to safety.
Care in Action e.V. is a non-profit organization established in Munich, Germany. Our sister organisation, "Turbota v Dii" (турбота в дії), was registered in Ukraine in 2011. With additional funding we can reach more children with aid, education and hope for the future. "Up to date news from our work Ukraine is available on our website: https://care-in-action.org/en/news "
