The mission of AIA San Diego is to promote the profession of architecture in San Diego and support members in professional excellence.

Founded in 1928, AIA San Diego remains committed to connecting architects with the community through advocacy for design, planning, sustainability, education, professional development, and civic leadership.

The American Institute of Architects spans all of San Diego County and represents approximately 1,000 members. The local chapter is part of the largest statewide network of AIA organizations, representing more than 11,000 architects, as well as a member of the American Institute of Architect's national network of 250 chapters comprising more than 95,000 design professionals.

Since its founding more than 90 years ago, AIA San Diego has been a leading voice and advocate for quality design, effective planning, sustainability, design-education, professional development, civic leadership, and public engagement. Our members are committed to a set of values embraced by the American Institute of Architects, such as upholding the highest professional standards, displaying a commitment to lifelong learning, working for community health and holding the interests of clients paramount. An AIA-affiliated practitioner is the right choice for those seeking building and project-development design services.
