ROOTED IN FINLAND: MAKING AN IMPACT ON THE WORLD

Since our founding in 1640, the University of Helsinki has inspired Finland to build a fair and equal society that ranks amongst the best internationally in terms of the environment, education, healthcare, and – of course – happiness.

During the years, our academic community has grown into 40 000 people scattered into [11 faculties](https://www.helsinki.fi/en/faculties-and-units) on four campuses. Now, our [research](https://www.helsinki.fi/en/research/top-research) and [education](https://www.helsinki.fi/en/admissions-and-education/apply-bachelors-and-masters-programmes/what-can-you-study-us) set global benchmarks, and we believe that the search for new knowledge and boundary-breaking research can lead to solutions that have a real, global impact on the future.

Our strategic plan currently emphasises four [research themes](https://www.helsinki.fi/en/research/strategic-research): wellbeing for humans and our environment, a humane and fair world, a sustainable future for our planet, and the possibilities that limitless curiosity opens up – a universe of ideas and opportunities.

We know that by joining forces with others we can have an impact much bigger than the sum of our parts – and make brilliant things happen - for the world.
