Emily, my daughter was 3 months away from being 19. She had a full scholarship to Austin Peay University in Memphis Tennessee. She suffered with mental illness that I thought was only a phase that would soon pass. I thought she would soon start college and that she would be ok. But on April 30th, 2021. She lost the battle against her depression. She committed suicide. She was such a beautiful person inside and out. She was loved by everyone. She was crying out for help and I wish so badly that I would have paid more attention, because the warning signs were there. I just didn’t believe that my little girl was capable of harming herself much less committing suicide. She would have been 22 this year. But her depression and mental illness was just more than she could handle on her own. If I had of just listened a little bit more to the warning signs, I’d have gotten her the help she so desperately needed. Suicide is Preventable. Depression is Treatable. Don’t let your SCARS take over you and make you feel worthless. Don’t make a permanent decision on a temporary situation. Because no matter what you are going through, just remember it is temporary. Talk to someone. Don’t be ashamed to say that you need help. It’s ok to not be ok. Speak up. Don’t try to run from your SCARS. Accept them and get help healing. Because just like Emily, YOU ARE WORTH EVERYTHING! YOU ARE LOVED! AND YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS!!!!
