Charity Entrepreneurship is an effective altruist organization that helps start high-impact charities based on extensive research.

Our mission is to cause more effective charities to exist in the world by connecting talented individuals with high-impact intervention opportunities. We achieve this through an extensive research process and our Incubation Program. Our focus areas include animal advocacy, health and development policy, mental health and happiness, and family planning.

CE supports its incubated charities through a fiscal sponsorship with Players Philanthropy Fund (Federal Tax ID: 27-6601178), a Maryland charitable trust with federal tax-exempt status as a public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The African Leadership Institute, formed in 2006, promotes effective leadership in Africa by nurturing and unleashing the leadership potential of young Africans. Since then, AFLI has built a powerful network of close to 400 leaders in 50 countries. The African Leadership Institute focuses on building strategic leadership across the continent by developing exceptional leaders representing all spheres of society. It does so primarily through the Institute's flagship programme, the prestigious  Archbishop Tutu Leadership Fellowship . Alumni of the African Leadership Institute form a dynamic network of Fellows passionately committed to the continent's transformation, bridging the divide between nations and ensuring that Africa is set centre-stage in global affairs.

Her Initiative breaks the cycle of poverty and fosters financial resilience among adolescent girls and young women in Tanzania.

Our Story, Our Evolution

In 2016, Her Initiative took root, fully blossoming into action in July 2019, propelled by a visionary team led by Lydia Charles Moyo. This group of young women embarked on a mission to champion the economic independence of girls and young women, aiming to redefine their narrative and establish a ‘new normal’.



Lydia's personal journey as a young woman striving for financial independence fueled the organization's inception. Her own experiences inspired a commitment to seeking solutions not only for herself but for other young women facing similar financial constraints. Today, Her Initiative stands as a testament to a girl who empowers herself to confront social and economic challenges. Lydia's initial motivation stemmed from witnessing her peers drop out of school due to poverty, child marriage, and early pregnancies. In 2012, she rallied fellow high school girls, sparking self-awareness campaigns and events on girls' rights and relevant laws across more than 10 schools in Dar es Salaam. Transitioning to university, Lydia spearheaded entrepreneurship campaigns like Panda events, fostering knowledge on entrepreneurship and facilitating connections with successful industry leaders.



Target group

Our work supports and prioritizes girls and young women and girls with limited economic opportunities in formal and informal labour markets, excluded from productive markets, and with increased economic vulnerability due to marginalization. We primarily work with and support women who are micro-entrepreneurs (often in the informal sector), small-scale producers, workers in the formal and informal sectors, and financially excluded women.

Our interventions



Mshiko Clubs: Through this program, we empower girls to stay in school by instilling financial literacy,  savings and extracurricular entrepreneurship habits . Over 1000 girls in 10 secondary schools in Dar es Salaam have benefited from this initiative.



Panda Digital: Our Swahili hybrid e-learning platform has reached over 5,000 young women, providing them with access to skills, personalized business support, and social justice, enabling them to start and run smart businesses.



Youth Employability Boot Camp: We have trained, mentored and provided job placements to 145 youth graduates, equipping them with essential technical and soft skills to enhance employability and bridge the gap between theory and practice.



Panda on the Ground: Through theoretical and practical training, mentorship, and linkages to financial resources, we have empowered 210 young women to establish their own businesses.

Digimali: Our program has digitized over 2265 youth businesses, enhancing their knowledge and skills of online business, digital ecosystems, finance literacy, and business management, opening doors to self-employment opportunities.



Plan B Project: By providing education, entrepreneurship training, and support to out-of-school adolescent girls, we have effectively combated gender-based violence and empowered survivors to build financial resilience.



FIKIA+: In partnership with ICAP Columbia University, we have supported retention to HIV treatment to 103 young women living with HIV with economic empowerment sessions, creating demand for testing and treatment services while promoting livelihood and financial resilience.



STAWI Lab

The 'Stawi Lab project is at the forefront of an ambitious ecosystem-building initiative, with a singular goal: supporting youth-led organizations dedicated to championing the rights and interests of girls and women. Our approach is multifaceted, weaving together capacity-building, mentorship, and the provision of unrestricted seed grants. In our collective movement, these youth-led organizations ardently advocate for the decolonization of funding, rallying for research, data, and empirical evidence to underpin funding approaches that are not only inclusive but also imbued with deep meaning. To date, Stawi Lab has proudly supported 18 organizations across six regions in Tanzania, marking significant strides toward our commitment to empowering the next generation of change-makers.

Stawi Lab’s mission is to empower youth-led organisations and create a supportive ecosystem where they can thrive. The project aims at bridging the gap between recognition and resources, equipping young changemakers with the tools, knowledge, and financial support necessary to advance their work on girls' and women's rights. Through capacity building, mentorship, and seed funding, the Stawi Lab project sought to revolutionize the funding landscape, fostering a new era of youth-led initiatives driving social change and creating a more inclusive and equitable world.



9. Our IMPACT 

At Her Initiative, our impact speaks volumes — directly engaging and uplifting 14,572 young women, facilitating the establishment of 210 women-owned businesses, and driving the digitization of business operations for 2,265 women and youth. Through our Panda Digital platform, we've disseminated essential business concepts to over 6000 young minds, unlocking their entrepreneurial potential.

Our commitment extends to the health and well-being of the community, with over 103 HIV-positive young women returning to Antiretroviral Therapy Services after receiving empowerment through Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and economic programs. Additionally, we've empowered 145 youth graduates with important employability skills, providing them with valuable job placement opportunities in partner organizations, spanning corporate entities and NGOs.

Furthermore, our dedication to nurturing the sector is evident in our support for 18 youth-led non-profit organizations, equipping them with the capacity and seed funding needed to catalyze positive change.

Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan (RSKS India) is a Grassroots Indian Non Profit organization (NGO) Situated at the FootHill of Aravali Range in Holy City Ajmer District of Rajasthan state.

The organization was founded in the year 1992, by the group of young sensitive youths in the interest of the society. RSKS A pioneer organization helping marginalized women & Girls in India.

SINA (Social Innovation Academy)is a multi-award-winning model empowering marginalized youth and African refugee communities to unleash their potentials and become social entrepreneurs. By creating their own solutions to the challenges they face, participants transform from passive aid recipients to active drivers of their own futures. As SINA's model continues to scale across different African countries through a replication approach, its impact continues to grow. It has reached eight communities in four African countries (Uganda, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe) and has given birth to over 65 social enterprises.

Future-Ready Learning for Tomorrow’s Leaders

Chintan’s GenNext program combats child labour and ensures wastepicker children have better futures than their parents in the future. Chintan’s learning centers empower children as resilient and future-ready actors of change. They are given access to education, skilling, nutrition, digital literacy and support with formal school enrollment. It helps children to access quality holistic development to integrate into mainstream education and to build future-ready citizens and leaders, including climate change leadership.

Chintan Enviromental Research & Action Group

An organization focused on providing hands-on learning for the overlooked in Mauritania. It received its nonprofit status in 2023.

Barakah Yields is a social impact company whose purpose is to generate opportunities, providing hands-on upskilling programs that will enable our members from overlooked communities to become active agents of the 21st century economy in Mauritania and the Saharan Africa region. 

I started this organization to address a widespread problem that I have witnessed first hand, that is the lack of education opportunities for those at the bottom of the socio-economic ladder. Nearly 57% of the Mauritanian population lives in multidimensional poverty, and this is exacerbated by the lack of education and employment opportunities for the youth. 

Similar to the broader African population, 60% of Mauritania's the population is less than 25 years old, and an outstanding 44% of those aged between 14 and 35 are neither professionally active, enrolled in school nor in vocational training. The situation is much harder for women who make up more than half of the working-age population in the country of approximately five million people.

Focus on programs that bring transformation in the lives of the Un-served.

Project Uday: Successfully ensures education of children mainly girls at our schools in Gautam Budh Nagar Uttar Pradesh India for 12 years now. We started with a school in Village Nithari Noida in 2008 which now has 478 children. In 2021 we set a second school in Sadarpur colony Noida which currently has 450 children. In Sept 2022 we moved to rural Greater Noida and setup our third school at Village Changoli which has 480 children.  Education is provided from class Prep 1 to 8, Tuitions from 9th to 12th and 107 students have cleared class 12 exams.  ( 921 Girls – 65% )

Faith in Action is a community based organization, founded in 2003 by a team of 5 people in order to support women and children in extreme poverty caused by the crisis and cultural barriers in Burundi. In fact Burundi population is predominantly female (54.2%) and 74.1% of the population lives below the poverty line.  Faith in Action coaches and supports disadvantaged and at risk women in Burundi through our holistic faith, family and community centred approach so that they become active, contributing members of their communities. ▪ Utilize Self Help Groups (SHG) made up of 15-20 people (90%are women) ▪ We support the members of SHG in four main areas: ○ Entrepreneurship: business plan development, individual coaching, creation of points of sell, harvest storage and connect them to market for the flow of their product. ○ Solidarity Funding: avail guarantee fund for Finance Institution connection and offer finance management training ○ Family support: birth and mariage registration facilitation, child development and protection, professional skills training and support ○ Life Skills: SRH, leadership skills and group therapy

Foi en Action/Faith in Action

Promote development of Afro-descendant and indigenous communities in Latin America 

ACUA's mission is to  promote the social, economic, and political development of Afro-descendant rural and urban communities  by promoting income generation and the appreciation of cultural assets through knowledge exchange, research, social recognition, and political incidence. Most of the foundation's work is carried out in the Pacific coast, where the majority of Afro-descendant populations and territories in Colombia, Ecuador, and Perú are located. Since 2015, ACUA has also worked with indigenous communities in Colombia.  ACUA's main objective is to improve the quality of life and income generation capacity of Afro-descendant and  indigenous people  who develop sustainable business based on their cultural assets. This objective is achieved through three strategies: 1. Making visible traditional knowledge and practices through documentation, research, and recognition. 2. Directly supporting businesses with cultural identities helping them establish links in local, regional, and national markets. 3. Supporting political incidence for the inclusion of ethnic and/or biocultural elements in public policy instruments.

"Empowering Youth Through Art and Welding: Lusaka Ryan's Journey with Give a Hand Uganda and YTB Support"

Once upon a time in the vibrant heart of Uganda, a young visionary named Lusaka Ryan dreamt of empowering the youth in his community through the transformative power of art and welding. He believed that by providing them with these valuable skills, he could open doors to a brighter future for many. With his dream in mind, Lusaka set out on a remarkable journey of hope and determination.

Lusaka's journey began when he discovered Give a Hand Uganda, a charitable organization dedicated to uplifting the lives of young people in disadvantaged communities. Impressed by their commitment to change, Lusaka decided to partner with them to turn his dream into a reality.

With the support of Give a Hand Uganda and the generous contributions from the Youth Training and Development Board (YTB), Lusaka established a program that would become the beacon of hope for the youth in his community. The program aimed to teach young individuals the art of sculpture and welding, providing them with practical skills that could not only express their creativity but also offer them sustainable livelihoods.

The program's impact was immediate and profound. Lusaka and his team began offering workshops, where the youth learned the delicate art of sculpting, shaping raw materials into beautiful works of art that told their unique stories. Simultaneously, they were trained in the intricate craft of welding, turning ordinary pieces of metal into functional and artistic creations.

As the program flourished, stories of transformation emerged. Young people who had once faced bleak futures found themselves equipped with skills that opened up new opportunities. They created sculptures that spoke of their dreams and welded structures that represented their resilience. With pride, they started selling their creations in local markets, gaining financial independence.

Lusaka's journey didn't stop at just teaching skills; he also provided mentorship and guidance, nurturing the talents and aspirations of the youth under his care. The impact of his work extended far beyond art and welding; it instilled in them a sense of purpose and self-belief.

The partnership between Lusaka Ryan, Give a Hand Uganda, and YTB proved to be a true catalyst for change. It demonstrated the incredible potential of youth when given the right tools and support. The success stories of these young artists and welders not only brightened their own lives but also brought hope to the entire community.

In the end, Lusaka Ryan's dream became a testament to the power of collaboration, dedication, and the belief that every young person deserves a chance to shine. Through art and welding, they found their voices, and through Give a Hand Uganda and YTB's support, they discovered that they could shape their own destinies.

Today, Lusaka's journey continues, as he and his team work tirelessly to expand their program, reaching more young hearts and minds, and painting a brighter future for Uganda's youth, one sculpture and weld at a time.

Our History:
Frontline Missions develops and cultivates partnerships within the global church to train and equip followers of Jesus to reach the nations for Christ.  We do this by tailoring creative solutions to the specific needs of each country, village, and person we encounter.  We currently operate in seven countries in Central and South America, helping people in underdeveloped regions with solutions like Bible storying, leadership training, and economic development. Target beneficiaries:
Our target beneficiaries are the youthful leaders of micro and small businesses from disadvantaged backgrounds in Uganda, including those from low-income families, teenage mothers, and youth in refugee camps and rehabilitation programs. These young entrepreneurs, aged 15 to 35, are passionate about turning their ideas into thriving enterprises that improve their lives and those of their communities.

Programs: 
Kyusa provides comprehensive support to entrepreneurs and businesses through three interlocking programs:

Our programs are centered around three core offerings: Financing, Training & Coaching, and Business Consulting & Research.

Our financing programs are designed to help in-crisis micro and small businesses owned by youth entrepreneurs in low-income communities. We provide access to funding and resources to help these businesses increase their production capacity and achieve sustainable growth.

Our training & coaching program is tailored to the needs of each cohort, with sessions running for 6 to 12 weeks. Cohorts are divided into business and social entrepreneurs, with a hybrid format that includes in-person and virtual sessions. We have also launched an online platform offering self-paced courses to a wider audience.

Business consulting is aimed at growing and medium-sized enterprises, providing personalized business training and coaching in exchange for full consulting fees. This is a part of our earned revenue model, designed to ensure that our services are accessible and impactful.

Program outcomes:
Kyusa's impact has been far-reaching and transformative for the youth and women-led businesses we serve. Over the years, we have provided crucial capacity-building support to over 5,000 young entrepreneurs, who now run a collective 1,800 micro and small enterprises (MSEs), providing vital livelihoods for 3,600 individuals.

Our efforts to foster social entrepreneurship have also yielded remarkable results, with 95 social enterprises established to tackle pressing challenges and serving over 2,500 secondary beneficiaries.

Kyusa's innovative programs and initiatives have created opportunities for growth and expansion. Our business study trips, for instance, have provided exposure and networks that have enabled alumni to engage in cross-border trading, while our micro-grant program has supported 125 vendor businesses to recover from the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to hosting several web-based community dialogues and podcasts on environmental justice, green coops and green careers, BGJWC worked diligently with community partners to plan the launch of its Offshore Wind Workforce Development Training pilot as part of its Baltimore Green Jobs Academy.  BGJWC has also been working in two neighborhoods in Baltimore to build dialogue around climate change and solar power battery storage issues.  In 2024, BGJWC is set to launch the Offshore Wind Worker Safety Training Pilot via its Baltimore Green Jobs Academy.

Where is SFI needed? Underserved Communities

Rory Sparrow recognizes that underserved communities, both in the United States and around the world, face significant barriers to adopting renewable energy. It's a matter of cost and infrastructure, with limited resources and logistics preventing the widespread adoption of clean technology.

In these underserved communities, basic necessities like clean water, heating, refrigeration, reliable energy, and sustainable agriculture are often lacking. The absence of these fundamental resources results in a heavy reliance on low-cost solutions that produce high levels of carbon emissions.

The Sparrow Foundation Institute is structured to operate self-sufficiently within these local underserved communities globally. This approach prevents SFI from competing for resources with other organizations and provides a scalable business model that can be easily expanded and managed through a network of motivated new businesses.

SFI's operational costs are covered by local distribution efforts, enabled by the adoption of SFI products and services. These products offer simple installation by community members, compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, the creation of local jobs and educational opportunities, and long-term sustainable community energy plans.

The problem: In Kenya, women are significantly disadvantaged both socially and economically. 

About Buildher The problem: In Kenya, women are significantly disadvantaged both socially and economically. Over half the female population lives below the poverty line ($3.10/day), less than 50% of girls are educated beyond primary school level, and young women in urban areas are more likely to be unemployed than any other group. Meanwhile, Kenya has an alarming lack of skilled designers and construction professionals and booming demand for urban development, particularly housing. This high-potential sector is currently male-dominated, with women representing less than 3% of those it employs. By the end of this century, 40% of the global population will reside in Africa. By 2030, more than half of Africa's population will reside in cities. We are working to ensure that women actively contribute to and benefit from this urban development. Our solution: Buildher recognizes an opportunity in this problem. We designed and deliver an innovative technical training and employment program exclusively for low income earning women that produces semi-skilled artisans and places them with construction industry employers. Our model is designed by women, for women: It enables participants to earn as they learn, significantly increase their earnings, and secure a professional certification that creates opportunities for career growth. Our goal: Buildher will train and empower thousands of Kenyan women through construction. In the process, we will develop a replicable model for gender integration in our industry to deeply impact hundreds of thousands of women across the continent. Buildher equips disadvantaged women in Kenya with accredited construction skills leading to greater financial prosperity, changing male attitudes and promoting gender equality within the construction industry.

Women Smiles Uganda is a Ugandan based non-profit organization which started as a small project in 2018 in Katanga slum and this was out of the Lilian Nakigozi' passion and personal experience. At a young age of 8, Lilian and her family lived in Katanga slum, which is home to approximately 20,000 people. Life in the slums is usually not easy with the majority of occupants living in houses made of mud, wood, and those lucky in brick-made houses. This is worsened by environmental pollution in their surroundings that often leads to contamination of surface and groundwater, ecosystem degradation, soil pollution as well as emission of greenhouse gasses. Having been raised solely by her mother in a family of nine siblings, Nakigozi would see her mother work extra hard to feed them. Getting food on the table was a challenge and this contributed to the death of her younger sister. These experiences influenced her to have an ambition of changing the lives of urban slum dwellers when an adult.Today, Women Smiles Uganda supports women, teenage mothers and youth living in underserved communities in Uganda. Through building adaptive climate-resilient vertical farms in our communities, we aim to improve food security, nutritional status and livelihoods especially for those living in urban and peri-urban poor settlements who are landless and have limited spaces. We are also seeking to eradicate poverty in underserved communities by offering entrepreneurship opportunities to women and youth through partnering with NGOs, women empowerment groups in slums and refugee camps. Our organization model builds supportive networks that allow women to share skills. develop self-sustaining food for their families and overcome poverty through reliable urban agriculture to create resilient and sustainable communities. With increasing urban population and as a strategy to reduce gender gap in the sector, there is a need to educate women on more alternative means of farming such as hydroponics which involves growing plants without soil but in gravel or liquid with added nutrients. Women Smiles Uganda not only build vertical farms in communities but also link the beneficiaries of our sustainable agriculture training programs to markets and  provide free quality seedlings to them. Women also benefit from additional training depending on their needs such as making compost manure, record keeping skills, drip irrigation amongst other good farming practices. Today, Women Smiles Uganda has expanded its market base to urban slums such as Katanga, Katwe, Makindye, Old Kampala and Bwaise which are home to almost 35% of Kampala’s population reaching 15,000 people. In the past years, we have created community gardens where women walk in to learn and practice sustainable agriculture techniques using hydroponics and aquaponics. This also involved partnering with local community groups. The community gardens now serve as hubs for educational activities, workshops and events related to sustainable agriculture. We focus on empowering women with skills because we believe women's involvement in sustainable agriculture practices has greatly contributed to a positive impact on gender equality and social development. We empower them to become leaders of change in their  communities and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Another key initiative that we embarked in recent years, was to empower mothers with maternal and child nutrition education, which is essential for ensuring the health and development of both mothers and their children. Through our nutrition education programs for young teenage mothers, we reached 2000 mothers with this education and this helped to increase awareness and understanding of key nutrition concepts such as the importance of breastfeeding, the need for a balanced diet, and the value of locally produced fresh food. Mothers who participated in the program report feeling more confident in their ability to provide health nutritious meals for their families and have seen improvements in their children' health and development. 
Currently, we are organizing community training programs in sustainable agriculture practices as an excellent way to promote sustainable and environmentally-friendly food production and increasing access to equal opportunities for women to improve their livelihoods in urban poor settlements. We educate community members on the best practices for growing food in impossible places, including using environmentally-friendly techniques, reducing waste and promote biodiversity. We are also training women farmers essential skills to achieve financial independence through agriculture and we launched a campaign through a documentary elevating voices of women farmers in Africa with a major aim of increasing their opportunities to access resources and support. We are also working on a web based digital training program to enable us scale our impact to other African countries.

Going forward, we will introduce the BackYard School model for schools in Uganda to promote sustainable food systems and we hope to scale to other Africa countries starting with East Africa, Kenya & Rwanda. We are currently in the process of seeking for partners leveraging on NGOs, corporate organizations and Rotary to support us on our journey towards ending hunger, poverty and creating resilient and sustainable communities across the African continent.

We are actively involved in community participation, awareness initiatives, and policy lobbying in order to build a more inclusive and equitable society.

Looking ahead, the Girls First Initiative has some exciting ideas for optimizing our influence and plans to open an educational center for girls to create creative programs and improve their collaborations. We work with the farmer cooperative we helped form in 2020, the Thomacheat Prasat Banan Agriculture Cooperative. Together, we are building community-owned and operated enterprises. In 2023-25, we will focus on creating locally sourced and made agricultural products, such as compost and natural fertilizers.
With over 13 years of experience serving our communities, we know some struggle to obtain life’s necessities. The elderly and infirm, people suffering from physical and emotional disabilities and traumas, and children not getting the essentials they need. To these vulnerable human beings, Bareebo provides food, shelter, health services, and whatever else we can.

At Footprints Africa we are on a mission to create 100,000 living wage jobs in the circular economy across Africa over the next 5 years​. Founded in 2017, we focus on pioneering B-Corp programming in Ghana, and de-risking the circular economy transition across the entire African continent. ​Our strength lies in how we support businesses leaders to adopt future-friendly practices and evidence the benefits of purpose-led business.  ​What makes us different? We work with leaders who focus on context. And we believe in the power of African innovation to demonstrate models that will work for the rest of the world.  ​

Some highlights of our work: 
B-Corp: we have supported over 135 businesses directly, empowering 3,000 informal workers, with a particular focus on female-owned businesses.  ​
Mapping the circular economy: We built the most comprehensive, open-access database of over 500 circular businesses in Africa.​
Measuring: From our work with circular businesses we have produced a ‘how to’ measurement guide.    ​
Reporting: We have published three case study reports, two of which have focused high potential circular sectors: regenerative agriculture and the built environment, giving some 80 business insights.  ​
Collaborative problem-solving: we have run a series of public catalytic question sessions (‘hotseats’) with 170 participants across Africa and beyond to unlock 12 circular business challenges.   ​

Le Secours Catholique was created in the aftermath of WWII when poverty was thriving amongst almost any kind of populations.  It aims at fighting any kind of poverty whether caused by unemployment, precarious housing, family conflicts; homelessness etc.  As a fundraising organization Secours Catholique has a budget of 145M euros/year, relies on more than 63.000 volunteers and has a staff of 900. It's one of the largest NGO in France. 03/2022 Update : Ukraine crisis and our emergency actions  Secours Catholique - Caritas France stands with its Caritas partners to support the victims of the ukrainian conflict. As the conflict intensifies, we are committed   to help civilians. 2 millions of displaced people and refugees in European countries, but also Ukrainians who have stayed behind, are in urgent need of humanitarian aid. In this crisis Secours Catholique - Caritas France will : Set up with the Ukrainian Caritas the emergency needs of the population in Ukraine - basic needs (food, health, hygiene kits, clothes, night shelters) - psychological support  Set up with the border Caritas (Poland, Slovakia and Romania) for the reception of refugees - setting up of supply points - reuniting families - support for registration by local authorities - transporting women and children to reception centres or families - psychological support Set up reception and accommodation for refugee families in France (still being evaluated but will be gradually increased) -emergency accommodation in conjunction with the government and local authorities -fraternal support

Armenia emergency appeal to help people fleeing Nagorno-Karabakh.

Tens of thousands of people have fled to Armenia following the resumption of fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh on Tuesday, 19 September, and the subsequent surrender of the local authorities. From the very outset of these developments, our dedicated team has been on the ground, delivering crucial humanitarian assistance. The protracted conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh has inflicted unrelenting suffering on the local population since its eruption in 1988.

"The situation is critical, with over 105 000 people in need of assistance.  There are older people and families with small children. Many have taken only the basic things with them and lack adequate clothes, food, or hygiene items. We are relying on funds from our donors to respond to the civilian population's current needs," says Varduhi Dadunts, People in Need's Country Director in Armenia. 

"We will provide people with water, food, shopping vouchers, mattresses and blankets or clothes. We will help equip accommodation centers, support children and older people, and provide other basic humanitarian assistance. We are asking the public to contribute to our Armenia emergency appeal," says Šimon Pánek, CEO of People in Need. 

"In Armenia, we have been helping people affected by the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict for a long time. We have been supporting people affected by the conflict and subsequent developments, including the situation around the Lachin Corridor and current events," says Petr Drbohlav, People in Need's Regional Director for the Eastern Partnership and the Balkans.

People in Need is the largest non-governmental organization in Central and Eastern Europe, delivering development and humanitarian assistance to 25 countries across Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, MENA, and Asia. In 2022 alone, People in Need supported over 4,5 million people.   

People in Need has been working in Armenia since 2003 and is therefore well placed to provide timely and the most relevant assistance.  

*Armenia emergency appeal to help people fleeing Nagorno-Karabakh

The recent escalation of conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, preceded by the 9+ month blockade of the Lachin corridor has triggered the mass evacuation of Nagorno-Karabakh population, with at least 100,520 persons (over 80% of the region’s population) fleeing to Armenia between September 24 – 29. 2023. Already highly vulnerable after a prolonged blockade that has severe impact on their ability to access basic services (including basic food or medicine), the exiled people of Nagorno-Karabakh were   able to take with them little to no belonging.

The current situation is drastically different from before. Unlike previous displacements, this time they have no hope of ever returning to Nagorno-Karabakh. It means their needs include urgent, life-saving assistance such as emergency shelter, food, psychosocial support, health or protection, as well as mid to long-term integration support such as developing sources of income, education, etc. 

* Why your support matters?

• As of October 4, 2023, at least 100,520 persons have fled from the region towards Armenia, largely entering the country through the Lachin corridor and ending mainly in Goris/Syunik. 
• The coordination of the response is led by the Armenian government and supported by the UNHCR. Humanitarian actors are expected to coordinate their aid activities with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, and are then being referred to municipalities for further coordination.
• The current response relies on limited humanitarian resources and it can be expected that needs will rapidly become unmet as these are exhausted.
• PIN was among the first to respond with immediate food and emergency assistance in Goris. We were also amongst the first to support the official registration center run by authorities. 

In the coming months, PIN is planning to scale up its work and provide immediate assistance with:  
(a) Shelter and non-food items; 
(b) Food security and livelihoods;
(c) Education and child protection;
(d) Mainstreaming protection.

Entrepreneurship hub for women and girls  

Our Sisters Opportunity (OSO) is an NGO based in Rwanda that seeks to help vulnerable girls and women achieve economic empowerment through vocational training and sustainable employment. OSO creates generations of women entrepreneurial leaders. OSO GOALS Our Programs focus on providing entrepreneurial vocational training for one year, establishing sustainable jobs for graduates, and ongoing business mentorship to graduates' start-ups. Our short-term goal includes the graduation of an average of 80% of OSO students who successfully attended and passed OSO one-year course. The second one is the number of clients/ contracts in place to kick start their own businesses while being on the OSO production chain. The third one is the consistent monthly income generated which goes towards family basic needs, savings, and re-invested in their own start-ups. Our long-term goal focuses on creating decent and sustainable jobs for all OSO graduates so that they are fully equipped to address the basic needs of them, their children, and their family members. The basic needs we focus on are access to food, clean water, children's school fees, family health insurance to access health care, and proper housing. FUTURE PLANS In the next 5 years, OSO plans to reach 10.000 girls, by expanding our Program to more 6 Districts and establishing National Women Entrepreneurship Avenue in Capital City.

The Shared Value Africa Initiative (SVAI) is a pan-African nonprofit company with an aim to assist and collaborate with organizations to build prosperous and sustainable economies and societies. Through various programmes and initiatives, the SVAI is able to implement projects that affect positive change in society, with the main focus being women and youth. Shared Value Africa Academy - implements capacity building and training for African entrepreneurs on their journey to contributing to a thriving African economy. Through Purpose Playbook Training they are empowered to be make informed decisions and use the CSV business concept when setting out to create and implement social and environmental impact and sustainability strategies. The Shared Value Africa Initiative (SVAI) research unit is available to work on any commissioned research that aligns to purposely inform action and provide information in order to make informed decision and build a shared value body of knowledge.

Dear Friends,  Three years ago, I left my successful accounting practice and, thanks to a great deal of generous help, launched the African Development University (A.D.U.) in Niger, my dear, impoverished and troubled country. Here is an A.D.U. update and a call-to-action to help us meet an important challenge.  A.D.U. has grown to almost 200 students, 70% of whom are women. In the workplace, our students are known to be ethical and impactful; 100% of employers rate their A.D.U. interns highly.  One rising leader is Nana, a full scholarship student. After an early marriage, Nana tried to resume her education, but was repudiated and barred from seeing her young children. At A.D.U., her leadership class inspired Nana to question the judge's expedited ruling. She researched the law and learned her basic rights. Using frameworks from her negotiation class, she convinced a prominent lawyer to take her case. Today, Nana lives with her three children. She served as a well-respected intern at Niger's embassy in the US and has worked on community empowerment projects in Niger.  Another student, Feyçal, is already a job creator. An orphan, Feyçal spent two years at the national university without completing a single semester due to strikes and other issues. At A.D.U., he launched two startups, hired a dozen part time employees, and pitched his projects in a global competition in London.  Now, I must humbly and urgently ask you to help A.D.U. survive. We have a strong plan to break even in five years, but today, we need your support.  Fortunately, a generous friend visited A.D.U. and, moved by our students, offered to match any gifts received by December 31st, 2019, up to $500,000 USD. History 

2014: Farai Munjoma (founder) wins an entrepreneurial program delivered by Junior Achievement Zimbabwe where he proposes the need for a free student driven platform to help students coach and mentor each other ahead of national examinations--Shasha is in idea phase
2017: Shasha Network is incubated at the African Leadership University in Mauritius, as one of the upcoming student start-ups. The focus of Shasha Network is providing students in rural part of Africa with digital literacy 
2020: At the peak of the pandemic, Farai Munjoma receives a grant from FedEx and Facebook Africa to launch a career guidance and mentorship program for students learning from home due to lockdowns. There is an increasing gap in career guidance and access to post secondary opportunities. Shasha pivots to soft skills training to ensure students have the self awareness and knowledge to identify and pursue opportunities.
2021: While studying for his Masters in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, founder joins the University of Edinburgh incubator program. He sets up a global board of trustees and advisors and pursues the idea of setting up Shasha as a Scottish non-profit. 
2022: 830+ learners from 19 countries access Shasha Network's early version online. Organisation receives charitable status from Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR)
2023: 2500+ learners participate in the Bridge program. Partners, Scottish Edge, Schmidt Futures and Edinburgh Innovations invest in continuous growth of platform and community

Current Activities

Shasha Network’s main purpose is to equip young people in Africa with soft skills and personal development to achieve their fullest potential—we mostly deliver this support in the form of
online programming, thus increasing reach and minimising barriers to access. This work can be divided into outreach; programming; content curation and design and business development. Listed below are detailed day-to-day activities

Outreach

We engage with low to middle income communities with the end goal of working with students from those societies to grow life and professional skills to enhance their chances of career success— this is driven through the recruitment and support of partner schools, trusts and foundations which already have cohorts of students we will deliver support to virtually. Our aim is to have 900-1000 students complete our courses each month therefore with 10-12 cycles of enrolment each year we should have 10,000-11,000 students completing the Shasha program each year. We have a team focused on partnerships, we research these partners on our own or have them recommended by other preexisting collaborators in our network. Our informational bootcamps which are administered by Shasha personnel online in collaboration with on the ground school/partner organisation representatives focus on Self Leadership; Career Research, Mentorship and Personal Branding for low income students.

● For example in Zimbabwe we are partnered with Junior Achievement as a country partner to be able to deliver our training to their pipeline of high school students.
● Other partnerships include International Youth Catholic Society (IYCS) and Schmidt Futures Foundation

Programming
● The online boot camps are delivered on a monthly basis on a cohort basis. Each day has a list of learning outcomes and key lessons which have to be delivered to the students in line with the syllabus as shown on the extract below.
● Every week our mentorship team will use this guide to deliver these keys lessons to a cohort of students at (average 100) and this number is poised to grow as our organisation expands.
● Beyond delivering the content, learners also receive critical feedback which is enabled
by an operational personal behind the cohort management — ultimately we aim to deliver;
○ 180 online lessons a year
○ 52 virtual mentorship webinars
○ Facilitate 120 mentor conversations
○ Share 750 global early career opportunities for our scholars to apply for every
year —scholarships; internships; jobs; courses

Future Planned Activities

2-3 years 
1. Shasha App: Scaling a highly optimised platform to deliver our experience seamlessly and retain scholars using it across the communities we operate.
2. Anglophone in-country reach: Leverage in-country networks with schools and grassroots organisations to grow our reach in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya, Rwanda, and South Africa. Rwanda to be our pilot territory before expanding to francophone Africa as it also speaks French.
3. Francophone in-country reach: Our pilot lessons from Rwanda should enable us to deploy in francophone Africa. We will start with Cameroon, Senegal, and then the Ivory Coast.
4. Starlink Access: Leapfrog internet infrastructure challenges. Through partnering with international schools abroad, where they will sponsor internet access through Starlink. African schools can access resources and also have pen pals with friends from their sponsoring school via email and other digital platforms. This will be called the Shasha Link.

3-5 years 
5. Endowment: Partnering with mission-aligned funders to build a USD25 million endowment to grow and support our reach
6. Zero-Rated Platform: Scale the number of learners accessing our platform for free on any local network. Telecommunications companies will cover or reduce the cost of having millions of learners access our resources on their digital platforms for free.
7. Leverage data and Artificial Intelligence (AI): Generative AI will provide us with an opportunity to create more bespoke and low-cost curated resources for Shasha scholars. We also need to leverage all the data we would have gathered to inform new areas of research and curriculum improvement.
8. Curriculum Influence: Partner with local governments to embed Shasha in local teaching and learning systems. This could be at teacher training colleges or school level.

Working with partners to implement impactful and sustainable educational programs across the nation.

Prestasi Junior is the Indonesian operation of Junior Achievement Worldwide (Boston, USA).  We are registered with the Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Law and Human Rights as a Foundation and have been present in the nation for 17 years. We focus on improving and augmenting the education of young Indonesians (5 years - 30 years) through implementation of innovative experiential learning programs. These initiatives focus on the key pillars of financial literacy, workforce readiness, entrepreneurship, and STEAM education either within schools or as community-based undertakings. Our reach is diverse and, in 2022/23, we are reaching more than 250,000 beneficiaries.  We have been working with young Papuans (between the ages of 18-30 and majority female) in a comprehensive entrepreneurship development project lasting 36 months. This is taking place in the Province of Papua - one of the more remote areas of the nation. We also implement programs for the underserved in metropolitan areas such as Jakarta and Surabaya. Our beneficiaries are, in the majority, representative of marginal socio-economic backgrounds and we are always amazed with the enthusiasm of these young people when given the chance to become involved in our learning initiatives. 

                                                      

PJI focuses on addressing many of the sustainable development goals including contributing to a quality education, building partnerships, and promoting gender equality.  Utilization of digital strategies and tools has promoted remote learning in support of the creation of an entrepreneurial spirit together with improved financial literacy. Collaboration with a broad range of partners has enabled us to engage individuals representing a wider age group. We continue to mobilize diverse programs which are culturally appropriate and tailored to ensure understanding at a variety of levels. The positive impact of our initiatives. In 2023 we have been selected as a partner of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Republic of Indonesia, to implement innovative initiatives aligned with the new Curriculum Merdeka implementation. This provides PJI with access into schools across the archipelago with work readiness, digital and Financial literacy, and entrepreneurship initiatives.

Prestasi Junior’s success stories are indicative of the positive effect our organization is having on many thousands of young people’s lives in Indonesia. However, this success would not have been possible without the excellent support provided by our many partners representing both public and private sectors. It is this support which enables us to deliver innovative education resources/strategies, mobilize exceptional volunteers, and provide access to those in need.

About YouthStart YouthStart is a non profit organisation that builds the self-confidence of opportunity-seeking young people and opens up possibilities for them to achieve their ambitions. An eight-day training programme provides young people with the right knowledge, skills and mindset to become entrepreneurs. This enables them to move forward in their lives in a positive and successful way.  An impact study conducted by VUB (Vrije Universiteit Brussels) proved that 81% of YouthStart's alumni find their path in life, either by returning to school, finding employment or starting their own business.  Her Majesty Queen Mathilde has granted her Patronage to YouthStart Belgium for many years. About the training During the YouthStart training programme, 10 to 15 opportunity-seeking young people will be coached by two certified YouthStart trainers. The eight-day course, which is spread out over several weeks, will inspire young people to think and act in an entrepreneurial manner. Using their talents and dreams as a starting point, they will develop a feasible business idea. We will help turn their business idea into a business plan. On the final day of the course they have the opportunity to present their plan to an advisory board. In exchange for their efforts, they will receive the much-desired YouthStart certificate, which is powered by two major Belgian universities (Antwerp Management School and HEC Liège Management School). In 2017, 749 opportunity-seeking young people were coached during 88 training courses. Since our inception in 1998, more than 8000 young people followed our training and by 2020 we would like to reach the 10.000 mark.

		 YouthStart's history YouthStart was launched in 1998 by Gaëtan Hannecart, who in turn was inspired by the American Steve Mariotti, founder of the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). Steve developed a training programme specifically for underserved high school students in the US. He believes that every young person has the potential and entrepreneurial abilities to take charge of their future. YouthStart Belgium was the first European organisation to offer the unique NFTE programme. Together with all our NFTE partners from around the world and with support from thousands of certified trainers, we have already made a difference in the lives of over 800,000 young people.  To inspire underprivileged youth towards entrepreneurial attitudes in life and work, YouthStart Belgium counts on the contribution and support of:

Applying a ‘bottoms up’ approach to building scalable solutions, the Deshpande Foundation at Hubli Sandbox works to create an effective ecosystem where resources are put to use through entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainability. Located in Northwest Karnataka in India, the Hubli Sandbox engages with nonprofits, academics, organizations, and entrepreneurs who are involved with the launch of effective and scalable models of development. We seek to empower communities with leadership and skill development programs that prepare urban and rural youth to lead or manage social enterprises. Through such programs, we strive to launch effective solutions through the investment of social enterprises. To date, we have reached more than one million families in Northern Karnataka.

Entrepreneurs du Monde, founded in 1998, is a French public interest association which works with populations in developing countries. The organization helps thousands of women and men living in extremely difficult circumstances to improve their living conditions, by supporting their own entrepreneurial ventures and giving them access to products which bring significant health, economic and environmental benefits. Entrepreneurs du Monde helps these people create the conditions they need to become successful, and in turn make economic and social progress. Entrepreneurs du Monde works in four specific areas          Social microfinance Entrepreneurs du Monde offers financial services (loans, savings, insurance, etc.) and socio-economic services (training, individual supervision, referral to other specialized agencies, etc.) to market traders, dressmakers, hairdressers, farmers and others working within the informal economy, to help them develop their businesses and improve their daily lives.              Support for the creation of very small businesses Entrepreneurs du Monde encourages crafters and basic service providers to set up very small businesses (VSB), and it supports some young people to find employment.      Access to energy Entrepreneurs du Monde enables the distribution of products which provide significant health, economic and environmental benefits: gas stoves; improved wood or charcoal stoves; solar-power kits. This area of operation serves as an incubator for social and environmental innovation, benefitting the families that Entrepreneurs du Monde supports. It encourages the development of a local network of independent social enterprises, managed by local entrepreneurs. Agro-entrepreneurship Entrepreneurs du Monde prioritizes agriculture in its developments. It develops agricultural training, credits adapted to the harvest cycle, storage granaries and seeks to strengthen agricultural sectors.
