The Mpedi Neurodiversity Studies Scholarship
The Mpedi Neurodiversity Studies Scholarship, established by Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Letlhokwa Mpedi and his family, supports students pursuing Master’s research focused on the neurodevelopmental needs of children and youth. Led by Professor Maximus Monaheng Sefotho, the Centre for Neurodiversity at UJ advances research targeting these needs, with a special emphasis on the health and well-being of children with Down Syndrome.
This initiative reflects the Mpedi Family's dedication to transforming societal views on neurodiversity. It highlights the importance of addressing the educational needs of neurodiverse children through understanding and inclusivity. Beyond providing financial aid, the scholarship is a key part of the Centre’s mission to tackle global challenges in neurodiversity, aiming to foster a more inclusive and empathetic society through impactful research.
