#SweatForBreath 2024

Family and Friends,

November 2022 was a life-changing month for me. In less than 30 days, I was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, learned the specific mutation of my cancer (ALK+), and began my targeted therapy (a daily pill) that I am still taking.

This November, as part of Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Lisa, and I are launching our second annual, month-long fundraising effort (#SweatForBreath) to raise both money for ALK+ research and promote awareness about this disease and my story to change the stigma often associated with lung cancer.

All of the proceeds from the #SweatForBreath campaign will go towards the research of Dr. Vincent Lam (my oncologist) at The Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center in Baltimore, MD (my hometown), who specializes in ALK+ specifically. Through his research, Dr. Lam is particularly focused on investigating why currently available immunotherapies don’t work well for ALK+ lung cancer and developing novel immunotherapies that can better target ALK (e.g. vaccines). He currently runs the world’s first ALK+ peptide vaccine clinical trial that is now underway.

More Research = More Life

Thank you all in advance for your support,
David & Lisa

Today, I #SweatForBreath for my friend @DavidCornbrooks, who was diagnosed with ALK+ #lungcancer at the age of 38.  He’s a former Division 1 athlete and has never smoked a cigarette in his life!

He currently benefits from a drug approved as a first-line treatment only a few years ago. There is research for new treatments underway that have the potential to add years to the lives of ALK+ patients like him.

More research = more life.

He and his wife, @LisaCornbrooks started @SweatForBreathFoundation to help the next generation of #alkpositive lung cancer patients.
