Empower Her Future: Scholarship Fund for Girls' Education.
- Raised

- Goal
- $20,000
For the past seven years, the Malkia Initiative has empowered 23,000 adolescent girls and young women, celebrating countless milestones, from graduations to transitions across educational levels. However, many girls in our community still lack these opportunities. In 2023 alone, 696 adolescent girls were impregnated daily in Kenya. Kajiado County, where we focus our efforts, has a 22% teenage pregnancy rate, the third highest in the country. This issue is compounded by harmful practices like female genital mutilation and child marriage at 78% prevalence, which continue to obstruct girls' education.
Our Teen Mum support groups have been vital safe spaces, inspiring many young mothers to consider returning to school or gaining skills for their future. Despite our efforts, the high poverty levels and cultural challenges in Kajiado have resulted in a 50% primary school dropout rate.
At the end of 2023, we launched a scholarship program to expand and sustain our impact. We are thrilled to have welcomed three girls into the program this year and witnessed their remarkable progress. Now, we aim to support 20 more girls in 2025.
We need your help to make this happen. The cost of educating one girl per year is $1,000, with your contribution, we can provide tuition fees, essential resources, and a three-day mentorship workshop. At Malkia, we firmly believe that girls, too, must learn. Your support can transform lives, allowing these young women to break free from cycles of poverty and disadvantage.
