Challenges into Opportunities: Empowering SINA through ICT

Recently, our SINA (Social Innovation Academy) community in Mpigi, Uganda, experienced a devastating setback when thieves targeted our resources, robbing our scholars of their critical ICT tools. However, this setback has only strengthened our community and support of marginalized youth. We wish to raise funds to replace the stolen equipment and enhance their scholars ICT capabilities.

To achieve this, we have outlined three key areas where your contribution will have a direct impact:

Computers:
By providing laptops, desktops, portable servers, and a large-format printer, we can ensure that the scholars at SINA have the necessary tools to develop their digital skills, build online social enterprises or expand their markets. With these resources, they can unleash their creativity, explore innovative solutions, and become job creators in their communities.

Details and costs:
Laptop and desktops $15,500
Server and Large format printer $3,325
Accessories cables and rack mount $1,322
Projector $1,260
50 chairs $2,250

CCTV System:
Upgrading our CCTV system will enhance the security measures at SINA, preventing future thefts and ensuring the safety of their equipment. The system shall include an 8-channel NVR, storage disks, bullet and dome IP cameras, as well as necessary accessories for installation.

Details and costs:
NVR Channel system $3,150
Camera Accessories $2,280

Solar System:
Power cuts are frequent and almost daily in Uganda. The equipment, as well as the CCTV system need a sustainable and renewable energy source. We aim to provide a solar power system. This system will consist of batteries, solar panels, a solar charger controller, battery cables, circuit protective devices, UV cables, accessories, interfacing equipment, battery racks, and an inverter. By harnessing the power of the sun, SINA can continue their vital work even in areas with limited access to electricity.

Details and costs:
Solar panels $5,813
Batteries $4,000
Battery Rack $3,360
Transport and installation $2,439

With your support, we can make these essential resources a reality for SINA and our scholars. Your contribution will directly empower our scholars from disadvantaged backgrounds, providing them with the tools and opportunities they need to thrive in the digital world. Together, we can foster innovation, resilience, and social impact.

Thank you for being part of this transformative journey. Together, we can create refugees and other marginalized youth to become job creators and social entrepreneurs who shift from passive recipients of aid to active drivers of their own future, one person and one community at a time.

More about SINA:

SINA (Social Innovation Academy)is a multi-award-winning model empowering marginalized youth and African refugee communities to unleash their potentials and become social entrepreneurs. By creating their own solutions to the challenges they face, participants transform from passive aid recipients to active drivers of their own futures. As SINA's model continues to scale across different African countries through a replication approach, its impact continues to grow. It has reached eight communities in four African countries (Uganda, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe) and has given birth to over 65 social enterprises.

Technology is something we take for granted. Sending lots of encouragement to these kids to keep following their dreams, and if thereโ€™s anything I can do with mentorship I hope to hear from them. Elle Anderson
