Health, social and economic burden caused by alcohol use keeps many people in poverty. Alcohol taxation helps to reduce alcohol consumption but not only that. It does magic in groups with lower socio-economic status because the harm caused by alcohol hits this population the most. Alcohol taxation helps to reduce the harm. It helps governments mobilise resources to invest in health initiatives and it helps alleviate health inequalities.
