Smithsonian Food History Project

o The Ninth Julia Child Award will be presented to Chef Sean Sherman at a Gala event in Minneapolis on October 24, 2023, honoring the significant contributions by the country’s leading advocate for indigenous food. Sherman is the co-owner of the award-winning Owamni by The Sioux Chef restaurant and founder of NATIFS, a non-profit dedicated to the preservation and restoration of indigenous foodways, the 2023 recipient of the $50,000 grant from The Julia Child Foundation.
o The Gala is a fundraiser to benefit the Smithsonian Food History Project, which supports research, collections and programming in food history at that National Museum of American History, which includes the preservation of Julia Child's home kitchen, the Cooking Up History demonstration series and the annual Food History Weekend, which includes the presentation of the Julia Child Award and features panel discussions, screenings, book signings, demonstrations and other special events open to the public.
o Tickets and sponsorship opportunities will be announced around August 1, 2023. Donations to the Food History Project of any size are welcome.
