When people face humanitarian crises, life as they know it crumbles. Families are uprooted, and forced to leave their homes with nothing but the hope of survival. In the blink of an eye, families lose their homes, their belongings, and their sense of safety. Parents are left grappling with how to feed their children, while little ones face hunger, confusion, and fear. Communities that once thrived are reduced to fragments, struggling to rebuild lives that seem shattered beyond repair. Entire communities are left struggling to access basic necessities like food, water, and medical care. The pain of losing stability, security, and dignity is unimaginable.

But it doesn’t have to be permanent!

HAI’S YEAR END CAMPAIGN presents A STORY OF RESILIENCE

The effects of climate change are felt acutely by the villages living on the riverine islands in the Beki River of Brahmaputra plains. For generations, these communities have thrived through their relationship with nature. The sad reality is that many of these islands are now disappearing rapidly due to climate change! As the river continues to rise, the land and the homes built upon it are disappearing. The once-stable islands are now at risk of being washed away, and the community is facing the loss of its culture, livelihood, and home. In response, the villagers themselves took the initiative to protect their land through innovative techniques to combat some of their biggest challenges using a replenishable, reusable and sustainable resource; Bamboo!

A transformative project was initiated with support from HAI, using the natural strength of bamboo to combat erosion. Bamboo plantations line their embankments, prevent soil erosion, and even provide the materials for their daily necessities. The community needs your support to continue their legacy! Your support can help this resilient community restore balance and save their future by providing:

  • River management solutions and land rejuvenation efforts to prevent erosion
  • Disaster preparedness supplies, including lifeboats, medical kits, and rations, to protect the community during floods.

We aim to raise USD $20000 for the community of the village to save and rebuild their land and lives.

HAI’s focus includes disaster relief and response, Refugee welfare, climate action, and humanitarian advocacy.
