Harmony Consolidator Foundation is a newly founded woman-founded and women-led common-benefit foundation based in Kigali - Rwanda.

Harmony Consolidator Foundation was created by a rwandese woman who herself has been a victim of the atrocities that Rwanda went through that culminated into the geocide against Tutsis in 1994 and is a witness to existing cultural and social barriers that prevent women from achieving their full potential. 

Both Children and women are perceived by many as men's personal properties which make the latter entitled to subjecting their perceived personal possessions, i.e. women and children to all sorts of abuses.

Thousands of defenseless children in Rwanda are defiled sexually, abused verbally and physically while others run away from their homes fleeing constant parental conflicts, physical and emotional abuses and therefore dropping out of schools.

Teenage pregnancies and suicide rates among youths are on the rise in Rwanda due to parental neglect, weak child protection services and constant marital conflicts.

Employment in the informal sector of Rwanda is excluded from legal coverage and millions of women and youths employed in the informal sector including households, family businesses and construction sites lack social protection, are left to the whims of their employers and are subjected to so many unreported abuses.

Harmony Consolidator Foundation was created to promote harmony in the communities, families and workplaces through promotion of SOCIAL JUSTICE, CHILDREN'S RIGHTS and ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT OF THE MOST VULNERABLE especially less educated/uneducated WOMEN AND YOUTHS.

Harmony Consolidator Foundation is seeking the financial support of $602,360 to execute the following four major projects:

*Project #1:*  **MY CHIDREN - MY CROWNS in Kigali**  is a seven (7) month project  whose total cost is estimated at $173,360 and whose aim is to reinforce the capacity of all actors in the entire child protection system in Kigali including all social workers employed in all districts that make up Kigali city, elected grassroots' leaders, elected members of the National Women Council from the village to the sector level as well as elected members of family councils from all villages that compose the city of Kigali through a training of trainers that is expected to equip them with deeper knowledge on the following:

- Existing Children's rights Laws and Policies
- Existing Mechanisms on how to report child abuses
- Mental, Emotional and Physical developmental needs of childen
- Healthy Parenting Styles and their benefits
- Psycholgy of Child Molesters
- Basics of Counselling
- How to identify neglected children and neglectful parents.

*Project #2:* **EMPOWERING FEMALE DOMESTIC WORKERS IN RWANDA** is a twelve (12) month project whose total project is estimated at $348,000 and aim is to equip 1,600 young (aged between 13 and 30 years)and less educated (below grade 9) female domestic workers employed in households in Kigali - Rwanda with employable set of skills through a VOCATIONAL TRAINING, FORMATION OF THEIR SOLIDARITY AND SAVINGS CLUBS OR COOPERATIVES to end their isolation and create their voices and representation while professionalizing this particular sub-sector in the informal sector of Rwanda; ADVOCACY AND MENTORSHIP in order to END VARIOUS UNBEARABABLE ABUSES that female domestic workers are subjected to on a daily basis behind closed doors of households in Kigali including being forced into PROSTITUTION, social isolation, under wages, rapes, absence of paid leaves, absence of career advancement, instant dismissal, arbitrary pay cuts, etc. 

*Project #3: **MY CHOICES - MY LIFE in Kicukiro district*** which targets 2,000 high school students and aim to raise a generation of healthy, ambitious, courageous, purpose-driven and responsible youths by seeking to reduce teenage pregnancies, transmission of HIV and other sexually transmissible diseases (STDs) among youths in Kicukiro district, school drop-outs, genocide ideology, excessive consumption of alcohol and the use of drugs among youths. The total costs of this project is estimated at $40,000 (forty US Dollars).

*Project #4: **PURCHASING A PIECE OF LAND IN KIGALI*** to serve as the future Vocational Training Center and counselling center for all vulnerable women and youth.

Rwanda has gone through various historical eras of hatred and ethnic divisions that culminated in the genocide against Tutsis in 1994 and youths were massively exploited by bad politicians to spread the genocide ideology and successfully execute it.

Youths continue to be the major target by bad politicians especially those living abroad who want to bring back the ethnic divisions in Rwanda and are teaching distorted narrative of the Rwandan history in order to sow and deepen ethnic based hatred among Rwandan youths.

On the other hand, Rwanda is experiencing a rise in the use of substance drugs and excessive alcohol consumption and youths are the most susceptible to these fast rising self-destructive habits. Teenage pregnancies among female adolescents aged below 18 years are on the rise while prevalence of HIV AND OTHER SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES among youths in Rwanda is steadily increasing. 

Youths are becoming more and more addicted to destructive habits that destroy their dreams, their mental and physical health as well as their future.

This project whose duration is eighteen (18) months aims to raise a generation of united, healed, ambitious, courageous and purpose-driven youth in Rwanda through a training that targets two thousands (2,000) participants including students from all secondary schools in Kicukiro District as well as all elected members of the National Youth Council at the sector level and all cells and villages that make up the district of Kicukiro.

The total cost for this project is estimated at $45,000 and its successful execution is expected to reduce juvenile delinquency, excessive consumption of alcohol, use of substance drugs, school drop outs, genocide ideology among youths and teenage pregnancies.



My Choices - My life in Kicukiro District

Rapid Urbanization in Rwanda created a broad range of off farm job opportunities for youths and households, resulting therefore in the increased needs by Rwandan households living in cities to outsource domestic works. Domestic Work has the largest share of the informal employment in Rwanda and does constitute an important source of employment to the youths and especially female workers as more than 65% of domestic workers in Rwanda are UNEDUCATED OR LESS EDUCATED YOUNG WOMEN/GIRLS AGED BETWEEN 15YEARS AND 24 YEARS, COMING FROM VERY POOR FAMILIES IN THE RURAL AREAS OF RWANDA.

The low education level of domestic workers, informality, lack of social protection and exclusion from the national labor code are the main factors that make FEMALE DOMESTIC WORKERS EXTREMELY VULNERABLE.

This project seeks to provide a holistic approach to the modern-day slavery and unbearable working conditions and social isolation that female domestic workers face by providing a vocational training to two hundreds (200) female domestic workers employed in households of Nyarugenge District, one of the three districts that make up Kigali City, the capital of Rwanda; creation of their solidarity and financial schemes or cooperatives to end their social isolation, create their voice and representation and finally providing mentorship and advocacy in order to make domestic work for female youths SAFER, MORE DECENT AND REWARDING.

The main expected outcomes from the successful execution of the present project are numerous including the following:

- At least ten (10) leisure and sport clubs for female domestic workers in Kigali are created to improve their mental and physical well-being;
- 200 female less educated young domestic workers will be equipped with market relevant vocational skills, basic communication skills, other work-relevant skills.
- At least ten (10) solidarity and savings schemes for female domestic workers in Kigali are created to end their isolation and improve their financial well-being through group savings;
- At least a hundred seventy-five (175) trained female domestic workers register with Public Long-term savings national schemes such as EJO HEZA for retirement/old age or Rwanda National Investment Trust;
- At least a hundred seventy-five (175) trained female domestic workers open up bank accounts with local community financial institutions;
- Increased knowledge among trained female domestic workers on savings and the importance of working with local community financial institutions;
- Increased knowledge among trained female domestic workers on sexual and reproductive health;
- Collection of up-to-date information on the horrible working conditions that domestic workers in Rwanda are exposed to every day to serve as a basis for raising awareness and advocacy to government policy makers, i.e. working time, salary cuts, rest hours, paid leaves, occupational diseases and accidents, etc;
- Collection of up-to-date information on the characteristics of female domestic workers in Rwanda (Average Age, Educational Level, family economic categories, etc.);
- Collection of objective information on the average monthly wages of domestic workers in Rwanda;
- Collection of objective information on reasons that cause domestic workers in Rwanda to leave their families of origin and/or drop out of schools;
- Collection of objective information on the nature of abuses and harassment that female domestic workers in Rwanda are subjected to;
- Created solidarity and savings schemes for female domestic workers are well structured, functioning with strong leaderships through our mentorship programs.

The total costs for the present project are estimated at forty nine thousand USD ($49,000) and its duration is twelve (12) months. The total costs are broken down into four main categories of expenses: OPERATING COSTS $25,727 - TRAINING COSTS $15,588 - ADVOCACY COSTS $5,725 as well as CONTINGENCIES COST(4%) $ 1,960.

Empowering female domestic workers in Nyarugenge District.

The UN child rights convention defined children's rights as follows:

-          Life, survival and development;

-          Be raised by, or have a relationship with their parents;

-          Express their opinions and be listened to;

-          Protection from violence, abuse or neglect;

-          An education that enables children to fulfil their potential.

Despite considerable efforts that the government of Rwanda has made to promote child protection, child’s rights are increasingly being violated and this is evidenced by the increasing number of teenage pregnancies, increasing prevalence of mental disorders among adolescents as well as growing cases of child defilement.

According to the Statistical Analysis of Child Defilement Report issued by Rwanda Investigation Bureau in October 2021, child defilement is among the most prevalent crimes in Rwanda and the most dominating victim’s risk factor that increases the danger of child defilement is insufficient parental supervision. The same report shows that the vast majority of children who are victims of child defilement were unattended children.

‘‘My Children – My Crown in Nyarugenge District’’ project whose duration is seven (7) months, aims to promote responsible parenthood as well as positive and healthy parenting practices through a training of trainers to all social workers deployed at every cell in Nyarugenge district of Kigali, members of the National Women Council from the Village level to the district level, all members of the family council’s executive committees as well as elected members of each village’s executive committee in the district of Nyarugenge in Kigali.

Children in Nyarugenge District will be the first to benefit from the successful execution of the present project through improved responsible parenthood, strengthened capacity of child protection services in Nyarugenge as well as reduced marital conflicts through counselling.

4,703 grassroot leaders will be trained on how to identify neglected children, neglecting parents, counsel and follow up on couples in constant marital conflicts, existing laws and mechanisms to enforce child protection, how to report cases of child defilement and other abuses perpetrated on children. The total project cost is estimated at fifty US Dollars ($50,000) broken down as follows: Contingencies (4%) $2,000 - Operating Costs $17,707 - Training Costs $28,554 and Media Campaigns $1,739.

**Positive behavioral changes, responsible parenthood, reduced teenage pregnancies, reduced cases of child defilement, reduced cases of depression and other mental diseases among adolescents and young children as well as reinforced child protection services in Nyarugenge District of Kigali are the expected outcomes from this project.**
