When I was teaching I began an after-school coding club. From the first lesson I was amazed and inspired by the collaborative environment the kids created, the determination they brought to challenges, and the future they began to see for themselves.

When I left teaching I knew I wanted to continue to promote this space, and in particular I wanted to encourage girls and women who aren't often given the opportunity to get into technology. The gap between women and men in tech is still huge, and we need to start young to address it. Girls Who Code does just that - they are on a mission to close the gender gap in technology and they do so in a fun, accessible way. They offer clubs for girls as young as 3rd grade, summer programs to provide exposure to tech jobs for young high school women, and college/career classes to help build a community of other women in tech.

I hope you'll join me in supporting Girls Who Code in celebration of our big day!
