The mahJ is one of the only Jewish museums in Europe to preserve an "international" collection, rich in objects from France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Central and Eastern Europe, the Levant and the Maghreb. This collection reflects, through its diversity, the syncretism with regional contexts, but also the continuity of two millennia of diasporic history, having profoundly influenced the cultures of Europe and the Mediterranean. It also bears witness to this living culture, deeply inscribed in European history. However, the financial resources of the mahJ are insufficient to enable it to acquire major works of art or objects that shows the plurality of Jewish cultures. Therefore, the Fondation Pro mahJ is committed to support the museum by raising funds specifically for the enrichment of its collections. Thanks to a major donor, the Fondation Pro mahJ has made possible the acquisition of the painting sketch (above), of Madame Jean Bloch and her children , dated 1927 by Édouard Vuillard (1868-1940). This work testifies to a central moment in the history of Jews in France, which could be described as the "apogee of Franco-Judaism", before the disillusionment caused by the "status of the Jews" of October 1940 enacted by the Vichy government. The Fondation Pro mahJ still needs to raise $52,000 to complete its funding. Each year, the Fondation Pro mahJ sets a goal of raising $100,000 to enhance/enrich ? the museum's collections. Support the mahJ's acquisitions and contribute to making history!
