The climate crisis is accelerating. Despite this, only 2% of all philanthropic capital worldwide currently flows into climate action. And yet, philanthropy is highly effective in supporting the transition towards Net Zero and creating a sustainable and fair future for all life on earth. Active Philanthropy exists to tackle this challenge by supporting philanthropists, donor families, philanthropic organisations and social investors to engage in climate action and have a catalytic impact. Active Philanthropy does this in several ways:  

1. We develop cutting-edge knowledge products at the intersection of climate action and solutions, which provide an easy entry point into particular topics where funders can make a difference. Through these products, we act as a pathfinder for climate action in the philanthropic sector and beyond. 

2. We organise learning journeys to unique climate ecosystems to provide decision makers from business, civil society and philanthropy with firsthand experience of the impact of climate change, spur them towards action and provide insights into the solutions they can pioneer. Experience and a series of evaluations show that these experiences fundamentally change participants’ perception of the climate crisis and greatly increase their willingness to act. We provide in-depth knowledge on the latest trends in climate science and the role philanthropy can play in driving intersectional solutions. 

3. We provide advisory services to help philanthropists go deeper with their climate giving from incubating foundations to grant management.  

Active Philanthropy is a non-partisan non-profit organisation. We are funded by donations and grants from individuals and non-state organisations as well as service fees. We greatly appreciate your interest in supporting our non-profit work. We rely on donations to fund our work towards making philanthropy a driving force for climate action.

Active Philanthropy pursues an intersectoral approach to climate philanthropy highlighting how the climate crisis impacts the natural world and human lives, and how it affects issues such as public health, the well-being of women, children and the elderly, as well as democracy, social justice and migration. With a growing team of experienced and committed specialists in grant management, climate science, finance and impact measurement, our portfolio includes services for philanthropists, foundations and corporations committed to protecting the planet for future generations. Through our work, Active Philanthropy offers 1) accessible insights about climate change, the current state of climate action and opportunities for climate philanthropy 2) presents   avenues for engaging in climate philanthropy and different levels for change 3) concrete opportunities to support climate action.
