Prison Journalism Project trains incarcerated writers to become journalists and publishes their stories.

Prison Journalism Project is launching its first-ever year-end fundraising campaign! We're hoping to raise $30,000 in donations by December 31, and your year-end gift of up to $1,000 will be matched, up to $20,000 total thanks to Newsmatch, the Independence Media Foundation, and the Loud Hound Partner Fund. 

This is an exciting time for us and the future of our work. 

As an all-volunteer team, we've published more than 1,000 stories from over 390 writers across 150+ prisons in 35 states; we started a print newspaper, PJP x Inside, for people in prison by people in prison; and we created PJP J-School with a faculty of veteran journalists who are working with our first cohort of 15 promising writers.

Right now our plan is to sink everything into our training programs and the journalism itself — your donation will make a huge impact as we still scramble to cover daily expenses required to work with our 390+ writers via postal and electronic mail. To show you how far every dollar goes, a donation of $10 would pay for 30 electronic messages to our writers in New York!
