
DIY Girls empowers girls to explore STEAM through programming that builds skills, confidence and community.


DIY Girls mission is to increase girls' interest and long-term success in technology, engineering and making through innovative educational experiences and mentor relationships.

DIY Girls was founded in 2011 to inspire and motivate girls to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and math by Luz Rivas, current California State Assemblywoman for the 39th District. Luz developed the first module of the Creative Electronics curriculum, which is still used today. Since then, DIY Girls has expanded our programming to include Creative Engineering, Invent Girls, GANAS Alumni Network, Summer Woodworking Camp, and much more. DIY Girls has served 5,711 girls and now serves nearly 450 girls per year across 15 school sites in the Northeast San Fernando Valley and with community partners throughout Los Angeles.  The majority of the girls in our programs are girls of color, ages 10-18 who reside in the Northeast San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, including the City of San Fernando. DIY Girls positively influences girls by providing tools to build their technical skills and confidence to pursue STEM as they enter adolescence and start to explore career interests.
