There are 5.25 trillion macro and micro pieces of plastic in our ocean & 46,000 pieces in every square mile of ocean, weighing up to 269,000 tonnes. Every day around 8 million pieces of plastic make their way into our oceans.

Our Mission is to inform, inspire and incite action to solve plastic pollution.

Plastic Oceans International is a nonprofit organization raising awareness about plastic pollution to inspire behavioral change. 

Our origins date back several years, as part of the team that helped distribute the award-winning film A Plastic Ocean, but our current status has been as a fully independent nonprofit organization since 2016. 

More than 300 million tons of plastic are produced annually, yet more than 90% of all plastic is not recycled. 

At least eight million tons of plastic are dumped into the ocean each year—equal to a garbage truck per minute. 

Studies find plastic pollutes the air, water and entire food chain, threatening human health, wildlife and the planet. 

Through solutions-focused films and digital content, Plastic Oceans promotes a global movement to rethink plastic.
