Ending unsustainable agricultural practices and the inexcusable and immoral ways in which animals are raised for cheap food is something I've come to care deeply about in my adult life. Many animal products are tasty and cheap, so I don't personally blame people for eating meat nor do I even fully abstain from animal products myself. But it is vitally important that as a culture, we constantly strive to be more sustainable and moral in all of our actions, and changing the way that the meat industry works is one vital step I think we ought to take toward a more humane and positive future for all life on Earth. It isn't right to raise and kill billions of animals per day (only to have most of the product eventually wasted) just so that a burger can cost a few bucks. Even if you don't take into account the value of the individual lives of literally billions of creatures, it is no doubt that raising animals for livestock is one of the most massive contributors to methane gas emission and is one of the least efficient ways to produce food in terms of water/mineral consumption. Supporting foundations like The Human League is one of the best ways to disincentivize the use of such harmful and immoral agricultural practices. Since the government, especially in the US, cannot be held accountable to make these changes, it is up to us as citizens to support institutions striving for this kind of change.
