Chokhor Gepel Ling is a Tibetan Buddhist Center founded by Thupten Rinpoche following the inspiration and guidance of His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama.

Our mission is to provide an environment for contact with Tibetan Buddhism, to promote awareness about Tibetan and Himalayan culture, and to support young monks at our affiliated temple in India, Thupsung Dhargye Ling.

The Children’s Book Project gives books to children who need them for equity in literacy, learning, and life.

Children’s Book Project is one of San Francisco’s oldest and most prolific organizations promoting literacy equity by ensuring access to books for children who need them. Our innovative model is designed to redistribute book assets so children living and going to school in under-resourced communities have books of their own and develop a love of reading—ultimately paving the way for lifelong learning and improved literacy in our city and region.

Children’s Book Project takes a cradle-to-graduation approach by providing books at every reading level, from infant board books to teen/young adult titles. In 2022, our women-led nonprofit received and processed nearly 155,000 new and gently used books donated by individuals, families, businesses, publishers, authors, and book drives; close to 140,000 books found their way into classrooms, doctors’ offices, shelters, daycares, and most importantly, homes with children and families who need and want them. Since our founding 31 years ago, we have surpassed 3.1 million books distributed to educators and nonprofit service providers across San Francisco and 24 additional California counties.
